Maemo on Nokia N900 for GSM/3G network support use some closed source programs. And (closed) Dialer/Call GUI application for calls use this 3G closed programs for start/stop audio calls.

Meego on Nokia N900 use for GSM/3G network support open source ofono daemon. Also Dialer GUI application is open and use ofono.

My question was: Is problem with 3G video calls in closed Maemo 3G programs or phone N900 does not support 3G video calls at hardware level?

If problem is only in Maemo 3G network program (and 3G video calls is supported by HW in phone), we can use (patch/develop) open source ofono (on Meego) for 3G video calls. And if ofono does not support it yet - support can be added - because ofono is open source and some ofono hackers know N900 network stack.

@knobby
I just checked on my phone
settings, phone, by Networkmodus i have the choise for Dual, 3G or GSM.
originaly it was set on 2,5G
i chose 3G and saved, it worked.
now i changed back to dual and it stays on 3G.

@Straycat
You have to try a few times, to and back, i had the same problem but now its working fine.

@pali
ofono & n900 has the capability to do 3g video calls as only HW requirement for 3g video call is a camera(either back or front would do) + AFAIK ofono do support 3G-324M protocol which is used by 3g VOIP/video calls.

I really hoped I could help but last time I developed on a mobile platform was 3 years ago... Now I am a web developer :( plus it was still symbian.

update

Yup confirmed ofono indeed can do it. It has CS Network support based on the diagram.

@offtopic
It also supports sim management wonder why nokia didn't even add a simtoolkit on our n900 (>.<)

Uhh I could develop apps but never in my life tried working with drivers and stuff so no idea... But seeing how e-yes did ofono on nitdroid I can see how hard it is lol
