PDF in lanscape mode

Hey guys, just got my brand new n800 today, its pretty cool, although no manual so i have no idea how to do anything lol. I guess "surf the net" would be an obvious answer, too bad I don't have a wireless router yet. Anyway, i figure what else can I do with it, oh yeah read my ebooks.

Well i was pretty disappointed to find that you cannot rotate the display. I read that VNC does this, although I apparently don't have VNC viewer and am really sure what it is. Also that FBreader can do it for chm ebooks but what about us guys with PDFs? Are we stuck in the dust here, I just want to rotate my PDF!!!

Let me know, thanks guys.

To get to the manual:

Open the File Manager from the applications menu.
Open your Documents folder.
Open the manual PDF in the relevant language :-)

Install evince to read PDFs. I believe it can do rotation.

evince is complaining about needing libgal or something - maybe its not compatible with the new os update?

Re: PDF in lanscape mode

BTW, did you try this

1)
http://downloads.maemo.org/product/evince/

to add the repository?

After that, add this one

2)
http://downloads.maemo.org/product/bora_sdk_repo/

Then try to install evince. You should be able to now. Then load your PDF, use the menu and rotate Left or Right.

any reason for evince rendering PDF's so poorly or did I miss a setting?

Re: PDF in lanscape mode

Evince will show you the page in a bit blurry form, but it will get clearer and clearer....this is so that you can roughly find the correct page (and quickly) instead of trying to render it clearly right from the start (which will take more time if you're searching for something). Once you find the page you want, it will pre-render the following pages much more quickly (cos this assumes you are reading the pages in sequence).

You can try zooming to a point where the page fits the width (of whatever scape you are using) and then use the D pad to control the scrolling. That will hold the page (and other pages) in that position on the screen. This is useful for pages with whitespace margins around the page of which you wish to ignore. So you zoom in so that those whitespace is off the screen and only the text is within the screen.

Re: PDF in lanscape mode

not sure what this is about but I loaded a pdf and it only said page 1/1, but if i loaded that same PDF in another reader program it was fine. I went to evince to switch the size of the page.

On another note I got FBreader to read CHM files but i don't see an option to increase the text size, is there or another program that can increase the size then word wrap it to fit the screen sorta like the browser does?

Re: PDF in lanscape mode

Wouldn't you be able to go to the fbreader's menu-> preferences -> styles and change the font size for the base or whatever font to a larger one?
