Re: N9/N950 Email/Mail for Exchange - Get help & give feedback here

Well, I've searched but haven't found an answer yet. Gonna continue to search but basically I have my mfe account configured with Google for calendar, contacts, and mail syncing. Everything has been great since day one (on PR 1.1) but just recently it refuses to sync. It always shows up as a failed transfer. I've tried to manually sync it, reboot (a few times), and confirm the password is correct but it still refuses to work.

Any idea of what it could be? If I have to delete the acct and start all over, that's ok but I wanna make sure before I go to all that hassle. If I delete it and can't get it back still, I won't have my contacts.

Hi all, mapping for folders is finally ready to use in MeMailSettings :) .

Can you check messageserver's logs? What error returned to the device from server during sending?

New N9 owner here and having issues with MFE sync. Basically what I get is "Mandatory Mail for Exchange server policy failed. Access refused".

I turned logging on and what I see there is this part:
Code:

[3629] Feb 10 15:27:25 [Debug] General :  ProvisionableImpl: applying new policies from account 2
[3629] Feb 10 15:27:25 [Debug] General :  Unsupported security setting from the server: !aPolicies.allowDesktopSync
[3629] Feb 10 15:27:25 [Debug] General :  Unsupported security setting from the server: !aPolicies.allowRemoteDesktop
[3629] Feb 10 15:27:25 [Debug] General :  mUnsupportedRequested = true
[3629] Feb 10 15:27:25 [Debug] General :  SettingsUpdateThread started

it seems to go well up to point where it asks the lock code, which needs to be numbers & at least one letter.

Full log attached(privacy things removed).

-nsn

Well, in your case there is nothing unsupported in lock code policies, the problem is that device can't block sync with desktops or remote access to the device and the server doesn't accept partial policies support.

Thanks for the quick reply! So basically is there anything that can be done to make it work? (Except change servers config, not going to happen here.. ).

Hello,

Please excuse me for the English, and if something is not clear, I use google translate. The tread is much too long, I can not read with translators. When a problem has been solved, please link directly, then I'll translate it.

I have some problems with the email client.

1. IMAP IDLE working on my N9 unreliable. After Restarting the phone, the emails arrive. But only for a short time. After that, it takes half an hour or even longer. I have tested it with two IMAP servers. With Courier and Dovecot.

The setting is, of course: Always up-to-date
If I get any emails long, the next one comes only with late delivery. usually after 15-45 minutes. My wife has an android, she gets the same settings immediately with any covers EVER. So the server to work with safety.

I turned on the log-mode for several hours, and I have the logfiles (messageserver.log (12MB) and fenix.log (1MB)), but say nothing to me, unfortunately.

2. If I answer an email, the answer is in the email quoted, and I find no possibility to delete this part. responding to the several email is very long. is it possible to disable somewhere?

Many thanks for your patience in advance.

If you can't use your account without provisioning then unfortuantely nothing can be done here without changes in the server's policies (at least it should except the device that partially supports requested policies).

For MfE it's can be done with my small application :) Officialy - no way to do it (at least atm).

Can you check the logs, perhaps you got some kind of a error in your IDLE connection (just search "IDLE" word in the logs). In case of any error with that connection account's sync scheduling might be moved to 15 mins interval until first successful sync.

hmm, never thought about such setting. There is no way to disable it. Maybe later(in the SW updates) you will at least get a workaround to remove previous messages from the reply body.

Hi all,

My work have just updated there exhcange server form 2003 to 2010 and applied device policy, now my N9 wont sync :( I get following error message:

"Mandatory Mail for Exchange server policy failed. Access refused".

I thought N9 supported being a provisionable device and encryption?

But I found this in the log file
Code:

[1707] Feb 15 11:39:04 [Debug] AS_LIB :  Provision: applying the new policies...
[1707] Feb 15 11:39:04 [Debug] General :  ProvisionableImpl: applying new policies from account 9
[1707] Feb 15 11:39:04 [Debug] General :  Unsupported security setting from the server: aPolicies.requireStorageCardEncryption
[1707] Feb 15 11:39:04 [Debug] General :  Unsupported security setting from the server: aPolicies.requireDeviceEncryption

Any ideas?

I finally got Mfe to work on my white NOKIA N9. Initially it would ask me for a security code and required me to put one character and numbers, and after setting the security code it would give me an error and never synced. I was told its because my company requires all numbers security code for non-blackberry devices. Mfe is 2010. I bought Lumia 800 and told my IT that I have windows phone. They did something on the server side and now it works on Lumia 800 and N9!!!.

I still dont understand how iphone does it so well with corporate email. never had problem with that device.

The problem is in the provisioning policies. Not all of them are supported by N9 and unfortunately your server is not accepting partial support. I'm not sure what do those policies means (there implementation is not my part of work :) ), but it seems that they got quite logical names "requireStorageCardEncryption" and "requireDeviceEncryption". The only thing that can be done here is changing the server settings (or try to use your device as "non-provisionable" device, but I don't think that your server will allow you to do it). I will ask collegues about that policy.

Looks like some unsupported security policies were changed on the server :)

P.S.
About iPhone... [JOKE]The stupidiest idea is that it accepts all policies even if some of them are not supported by the phone :-D [/JOKE] Or an oposite option is that iPhone supports all security policies.

Yes, my friends iPhone seems to have reported that it accepted all policies :).

Unfortunately the server is out of my control, and you are right it does not accept Non-Provionable device.

I would be interested to know what your collegues can inform us about these policies. To me "requireStorageCardEncryption" could possible be made to work like iPhone and always return yes, after all if there is no storage card, there is nothing to enforce ;)

Regarding "requireDeviceEncryption" I thought N9 could support this, but maybe it is my mistake and this is really unsupported?

Hmm, actually it is a good question. Perhaps we should change supported/unsupported policies. I'll talk about it with the appropriate person(s) and maybe it could be changed in PR1.3.

I have found the following. Is that something that will help us out?

Code:

[1294] Feb 15 15:43:00 [Debug] IMAP :  IDLE: An IMAP IDLE related error occurred.
[1294] Feb 15 15:43:30 [Debug] IMAP :  IDLE: IMAP IDLE error recovery trying to establish IDLE state now.

[1294] Feb 15 17:05:28 [Debug] IMAP :  IDLE: IMAP IDLE error recovery trying to establish IDLE state now.

I like to create an account, if someone can test it.

I have yet to find also the following. I do not know if it related to it:

Code:

[1299] Feb 13 00:29:48 [Debug] ../../../lib/SignOn/authsessionimpl.cpp 173 checkConnection

Hi,

I have a problem with the gmail account or MfE, I have tried to sync my email in both, they work fine, I get my email immediately, the only issue is that when I read my emails on my pc, in the N9 the notification doesn't disappear. Is there a fix for this?

Hmm, well the first part of logs means that something is wrong with IDLE connection (this connection is to get notifications from the server about new emails and so on). You can try to change your account settings on any other option for a 20-30 seconds and then turn on always-on mode again. That should be a temporary workaround (also you can try to call manual sync to recover the connection). The second error "no requests to be canceled" is not a problem :) Probably, always-on mode should work better in your case with PR1.2 and IIRC PR1.2 should be available soon for the users (it least I saw some posts about it in the internet :) ).

Hi Sergey, thanks for your reply!

I can't tell you if I'm using certificates to connect to internet... Anyways, following your advice I changed the settings to connection on background and email now syncs every 30 mins! Since I made this change my 3g connection icon has not disappeared from the connections menu as often as it did.

Now I've also added my wifi connection to automatic and everything seems to be working just fine!

I haven't changed my N9 to Developer's Mode yet, but as soon as I do so I'll post the errors (if they occur) ok?

Once again, thanks for the support!

=)

It seems MFE+gmail accounts are not able to synch "other calendars" (shared calendars) ? Is that a known bug/limitation ?

e.g: My wife is sharing with me her google calendar; I cannot see it on my N9 (PR1.1) ?!

One google account, one main calendar, and other calendars shared or created (like birthday calendar created out from gmail contacts)

I use MFE for Gmail but I don't sync my calendars using MFE. Instead, I use Caldav, which allows me to sync all of my calendars. If you follow the directions from the following site, it should allow you to sync multiple calendars pretty easily.

Sergey,

I am really sorry for the bother, but I wanted to see if there is anyway you can help me get past this issue. I bought a phone off of someone on ebay and he is the original owner but once I updated the firmware and rebooted it locked me out and asks for a security code. The Nokia Suite won't detect it nor will my laptop. I tried reflashing the emmc and fw but to no avail. I can not get past the security code. I know which one of his emails it is because it prompts me for the password with his email account info before it takes me to the security code screen. I can provide any info to show my purchase of the phone.

Please let me know if there is anyway I would be able to get past this security code. Dying to start modding this phone.

I spoke with Nokia and they verified the original owner was the seller that I purchased from but told me they can not do anything to help me since I am in the US. They asked me to please retrieve his outlook account info because it appears to be those credentials that he saved it with. I am going to ask him today. Then they told me they have a service center in Alabama and they would have several ways to try it before I send it out. Pain. I hope the guy gives me his password temporarily.

With PR1.2 update, this bug appears to be fixed as I'm able now to send e-mail using my university IMAP account. From other posts, apparently there was an issue with the N9 IMAP trying to use "burl" when the IMAP server didn't actually use "burl". The N9 would send an e-mail to the IMAP "Sent" folder and the server was supposed to then send the e-mail (avoiding having the N9 send one e-mail to the "Sent" folder and another to be actually sent out). Yeah!

I am now having massive battery drain when my gmail account is set to "always up to date" on PR1.2. I did not have this problem in the past on 1.0 or 1.1. I see the little "syncing" down arrow show up in the notification bar every 2-3 seconds and immediately disappear.

I've searched and all I can find are posts from PR1.1 saying that this bug should be fixed in 1.2.

Any ideas?

Do you get frequent emails? I get a handful per hour and have both my personal Gmail and work Exchange set to push. My battery drain is down to 14ma where it was ~30ma with PR1.1.

Anybody know if HTML emails will be fixed soon? PR 1.2 had no change for this issue.

Re: N9/N950 Email/Mail for Exchange - Get help & give feedback here

I just got an N9, had issues with Gmail not pulling new messages from the server, neither seemingly on the schedule nor via a manual sync.

These problems are still affecting me with PR1.2, and I have already deleted and re-made the Google account once.

Everything seems normal, if I do a refresh, I can see Gmail in the transfers, and it completes fine. However, no new messages are pulled down from the server, despite them showing up in other clients.

Would appreciate some help. Thanks.

Hi, Sergy,

Seems this issue has not been fixed in PR1.2. Did I miss some switch to control this? Many thanks.

Hello, at least for sales release it was a design decision to make notifications work like mentioned in your post. So, not a bug :) Perhaps, will be changed later in updates.

NOTE: one of the problems if we are going to change a current implementation is a case when you are receiving one email per few seconds (in always up-to-date mode, for example). Vibration and sounds looks a bit annoying, just believe me :) .

-------
Hi Sergey, could you take a look into this issue that I mentioned in another post and provide any help? Thanks.

--------------------

I just got a new N9 and updated to PR 1.1. Got the MFE work for my gmail account, select "always update to date". All works perfectly for mail, contact, and calendar - almost update mails instantaneously.

However, I noticed this weird thing:

It works very well for new email notification for the first mail coming in. Then if I did not check that new mail and let it be there, there will be no more notifications (sound or vibration) for the following new mails. Just you can see the increase of new email numbers on the notification screen. Only after you check the emails and clear the new mail signs, it start to play the sound and vibrate when receive the first new mail, and problems again after that. Just wonder if this is a way by design or it is a bug already reported or can be fixed by changing setting.

This bug came a couple of weeks after PR1.1 update. PR 1.2 didn't change it.

I have two e-mail accounts (gmail and one other). One day both e-mail boxes disappeared. When I click the e-mail icon only "Setup e-mail" screen is shown. My accounts are still there. I have deleted accounts and created again. No help. Setup e-mail comes every time. Nokia care told to flash whole phone. Maybe that is easy way, but can someone tell how to reset only accounts/email without formatting the whole system ?

I had this problem with my Gmail account after I installed 1.2. My notifications were coming in immediately, and it was saying "last updated 1 minute ago" and all, but the constant syncing drained my battery within 3 hours. I deleted and re-added and the syncing arrow wasn't around anymore, so that stopped the battery drain. Unfortunately, after I did that, my emails aren't updating at all. I have to manually update, no more push notification. That's the problem with both my gmail and MFE (which is my work email).

I tried deleting the accounts a few times and even rebooting after deleting and re-adding. Nothing seems to be working. Getting very frustrated.

I searched but didn't find answer to my question: how can I attach files of different types than the predefined(jpg, doc etc.)? I tried to attach tar.gz - no way you can see it in file explorer that is launched for attachment file selection. Of course you can do the trick with renaming and moving to one of the watched directories, but that seems dumb(iPhone-sque) to me. I want to be able to attach any file I want, no matter the extension. Even such with missing extensions. It is just files....

After updating to 1.2 everything running smoothly!!!!!!!

Email works fine, I believe that keeping connection on background mode makes the difference. I didn't need to restart it even once!

I ended up setting it to check every 10 minutes. Not an ideal solution, but my phone battery doesn't die in 2 hours anymore. Waiting for a real fix.

Hey guys,

since updating to PR 1.2, my contacts stopped syncing. Any idea how I can clear my entire address book and remove all configs left by MfE?

I also opened a bug here: https://harmattan-bugs.nokia.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1106

try to use --erase-user-data argument for flasher (I'm not sure that it is available in public flasher).

This bug is not fixed in PR1.2 (damned bug  ). Currently all I can advice is to try to switch on a 10 mins interval instead of always-on at least for a day (of course if reboot and/or deletion of the account can't help you).

Since design is not changed your "issue" is not fixed. So yes, there is no fix for notifications in PR1.2. And "only one notification sound/vibration" is by design too, so it is not a bug, it is a feature

Since there is no file manger on the system (by default) it is working the way like it works atm. I suppose it is a big question to the designers why there is no section like "Other files".

Can you check the fenix logs? Can you see any errors/warnings?

Can you get the logs? MfE should work fine. Try to switch on a schedule sync setting (10 mins for example) as a temporary solution.

Just remove the MfE account and all contacts will be removed.

Steps from the bug:

1. Set up MfE with contact sync enabled.
2. Not all contacts will appear in the address book.

Are you syncing GMail? I'm asking only because gmail server syncs contacts only after few mins (or even more then 30 mins) after first account sync.
