I've searched and all I can find are posts from PR1.1 saying that this bug should be fixed in 1.2.

Any ideas?

Exactly same thing here, it seems to poll infinitely without interruption when the account is set to "always up to date".

I have to note that everything was working fine with 1.1 .....

Have you tried to: cancel this strange sync -> wait few secs (to make sure that all sync are stopped) -> do manual sync -> check that always on is working fine? I had that bug only once and that was quite easy workaround :)

Are you syncing GMail? I'm asking only because gmail server syncs contacts only after few mins (or even more then 30 mins) after first account sync.

Hey,

I added the debug log files to the ticket as well as a step by step guide on how I set up the account. It is an Exchange server, not GMail.

Check my comment in the bug. Try to do a suggested workaround.

Re: N9/N950 Email/Mail for Exchange - Get help & give feedback here

I am using an unlocked N9 from Malaysia in China.
And thanks to many things I managed to flash an England firmware to get Meego Harmattan PR 1.2 days earlier.

I do wonder if I am the only one encountering this situation, where as the Internet access and government in Greater China is very complicated since Nokia guys made a god-damn Ovi for China in which the Meego apps can be count with figures. And the Nokia server for China is damn slow taking hours to get a 13MB PACKAGE... I do wish you can notice them on this as my complain in Mandarin made little sense...

For personal habit I am using Google Contacts as my first choice, at the first sight delighted indeed to see N9 with great Gmail integration but disappointed minutes later found contacts missing....

I thought using the same Exchange account with Gmail is the reason why I can not get full contacts by Exchange in PR 1.1, and perhaps our national firewall blocked Google server somehow.

But later I switched to Hotmail sync instead, this time using PR 1.2 but I still got the problem, I had over 300 contacts for one account, since I cannot use facebook directly on N9 here.

I left all options by default, and I got Google/Hotmail servers set up the same way I used on my Android/Ios Devices, while now my N9 fails to get them all.

I am not looking forward to use a local-based service due to privacy and security issue here in my country, and for you guys never try to share your information bold to untrusted Chinese services...

Is there anyone got the idea how to get my full contacts...
Now for Google I can only get about half of my entire list,
and for Hotmail around 60%...

It is quite a headache.

Hmm, I think you can get the same error as mentioned in the bug 1106. Can you check the logs? Do you have something similar to:
Code:

"[Warning] QTrackerDirectSyncResult: QSparqlError(6,
"GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.Tracker1.SparqlError.Internal: constraint failed
(strerror of errno (not necessarily related): No such file or directory)", 4) "

in the activesync logs? Or maybe something else looks suspicious?

I have an N9, and have set up my Mail for Exchange to connect to a Zimbra service.

Its all working (sync/send/receive/calendars), but special characters (e.g. åøæ) viewed in the "From" and "To" fields are not viewing correct.

For the character Ø i see =?UTF-8?Q?=C3=98

Is there a resolution for this?

Thanks in advance

Question, I have Mail for Exchange set up with my @hotmail.com address, but everything shows in plain text instead of loading HTML even though I have checked HTML in the email settings.

Is this just a limitation of MfE? I also decided to set up my @hotmail.com account through regular email (not MfE) and the emails do show up as HTML there. Though it would be nice if I could have email pushed to me and also have HTML.

Re: N9/N950 Email/Mail for Exchange - Get help & give feedback here

I was unable to send Mail from my N9, but thanks to the detailed explanations on the wiki the issue was easy to debug. I'm just posting this here in case anyone has a similar issue and to say thanks for the great help on the wiki and in this forum.

Our mail server is configured to accept plain password authentication over TLS; however, only AUTH PLAIN was supported. Even though the mailserver reported this correctly, Mail on the N9 always tried to authenticate with AUTH LOGIN.

I don't know if this is documented anywhere, but in case you're unable to send mail with a similar configuration, check whether or not your server supports AUTH LOGIN. After I enabled AUTH LOGIN on the server everything works perfectly.

Like I wrote few pages before, it is a protocol limitation, because hotmail uses Exchange AS 2.5 protocol. To get normal HTML formatted emails for hotmail via Exchange you can use this small application to enable "download full message's MIME" mode.
NOTE: old messages still will be in plain text, but all new messages will be fine.

No, my device is running PR1.2 (0.2012.07-1.320.05.1_PR_320) and its still occurring.

My personal Google account (from the add account options) works ok.

Anything else I can test out ?

I am not doing anything non-standard. I have the domain and server address configured, and using a secure connection on the default port. i also have "priority give to server" set.

Sorry I cant provide any more information than that. It worked fine first time.

I can't seem to find any answers in other threads. So here goes nothing.

After PR1.2 update, Fenix Mail won't launch. I can't access the Mail settings and MfE can't be setup either.

Have flashed using NSU and WinFlasher to no avail. I'm kinda fustrated at the moment. Everything else works on PR1.2, just not email of any kind. There seems to be no alternative email clients for the Nokia N9 either...

Need Help!

I don't think so, looks like this issue is fixed in PR1.3, so all you need is to wait till next update :)

I am trying to set up an Mfe account on my N9 / PR1.2 with a Zimbra 7.1.2_GA server. I have been able to use the exact same account details on Android w/ SecureEAS so my user config part is correct.

A connection is never established. The logs on the N9 indicate "SSL handshake error". I had our mail admin run a tcpdump on the Zimbra server and the error we see is "Warning: No Certificate". By tracing this all the way through, I see the N9 is never sending the cert, which I *have* loaded on N9 and set to use for Mail.

Logs attached, I can privately send the tcpdump from the server. Is there some way I'm missing to force the certificate? (I was never prompted in Mfe to select a cert; I loaded the cert via Security -> Certificates).

Thanks.

Client certificates currently are not supported by MfE. Maybe it will be fixed in the future update(s).

Sign-in dialog will appear as soon as email application (messegeserver) receive the authentication error from the server :) So, no need in re-creation of the account.

Merged data will not be synced with Exchange server (it is by design). It is quite easy to check whether your changes synced or not. If you are changing something in the MfE contact (like name, email or phone number) just make this steps to check is it really synced with server or not:
1) Open accounts application
2) Open your MfE account.
3) Tap on "Last Sync Details" button.
4) Press "sync button"
5) Check the numbers :)

or if your account is in always up-to-date mode then just skip steps 4 and 5.

Perhaps you got some kind of a error, but to analyze it I need logs.

Re: N9/N950 Email/Mail for Exchange - Get help & give feedback here

Hi,

I have a problem syncing my contacts to my Google account via Mfe.

This bug(?) has been occuring since PR1.1 but truthfully I think it's just a setting issue which I'm not aware off. I'm still on PR1.1.

Firstly, syncing mail and calendar with my Google account has no problem at all. However, when I included Contacts under the Accounts setting, I expect:

Expectations:
(a) all contact in my phone to be copied to my Google account

(b) changes done to the account via phone is updated to Google and vice versa

However, reality:
(a) only NEW numbers added has been synced. For example, I added two numbers of two banks and press sync. Only these two contacts are added to my Google account. The remaining 216 contacts are not found in my Google account.

(b) changes are updated only for these two new contacts.

So is this due to a setting or a 'timestamp' issue? Must I set my device to be a Provisional Device?

I have the activesync, Messageserver and Msgindexer log if you want to take a look at them. I can't get the Fenix.log to work using the describe method at http://wiki.maemo.org/Email_and_Mail_for_Exchange_n9 as it gave me a 'file already exist' error.

Tks!

Re: N9/N950 Email/Mail for Exchange - Get help & give feedback here

On PR1.2, still stuck with:
* Mfe server error will not update itself on its own. Need to manually "clear the red arrow" by initiating synch.
* CadDav "server cannot be found" and the like error will not update itself on its own. Need to manually "clear the red arrow" by initiating synch.
* Does not support "constantly updated accounts" (like in Android) without draining battery (major issue)
* Cannot synch ALL contacts from multiples Mfe accounts (major issue)
* Cannot synch ALL calendars from multiples Mfe accounts (major issue). Workaround with CalDAV. Ugly.

These stuffs are SO basic... How come Nokia did not fixed that in the first place ... :P
Actually, it makes the N9 hardly usable when switching from Android.
So sad.

Just a small question about this issue. Are you trying to sync all your contacts that belongs to some other service(s) with MfE? Or you are speaking about Local Contacts (they are exists only on your N9)? I'm asking only because currently by design if contact belongs to the service then it will be synced only with this service. So, if you want to sync your Facebook/Twiter/etc. contact with MfE you should some tricky things (like sending it as a vcard via email and so on :) ). So, it is not a bug

Actually, "red arrow" will disappear as soon as next successful sync is done. So, it should disappear during next schedule sync attempt (or as soon as your network connection is re-established/re-enabled/etc.).

You mean "always up-to-date" schedule setting? Well, I noticed the problem with 3G connection (bigger battery consumption), but looks fine with Wi-Fi. I'm just curious, what average idle consumption do you have on your N9?

Who told you that? You CAN sync ALL your MfE calendars for ALL your MfE accounts. I suppose you are talking about GMail accounts? That is a not an MfE problem on N9. GMail doesn't support multiple calendars with MfE and that is all. With all real MfE accounts (non-Gmail) multiple calendars are syncing as they should.

Hi Sergei,

Thanks for your reply.
Indeed, you are right with most of the point.
It seems for some reason the "red arrow" not updating on its own is fixed for me. I did not have it today...

Really hoping to be able to synch multiple MFE contacts.... !

As for the "always-up-to-date", I will try again now that the PR1.2 has fixed the idle consumption problem.

Another "annoying" point is the notification on phone not in-synch with the server (especially for read/unread emails).;)

Thanks for the support,

As far as I know they are local contacts. I did a full reset and restore the contacts via the phone's backup system.

Even if some of the contacts have merged with my Facebook contacts, I should still have more than 100+ non-merged contacts.

From your reply, does it matter WHERE the contacts come from? For example I reset my phone now and have zero contacts. Then I sync with Google account A and gotten 100 contacts. If now I delete that Google account A from the phone, the contacts will still exist in my phone, isn't it?

With that 100 contacts from Google account A, I created Google Account B and sync with it. These 100 contacts should be transferred to Google account B, right?

As far as I know, this is like the only way to backup my contents in the cloud....

Appreciate your advise! Thanks a lot!

I have an issue where not all numbers are synced from Google Contacts using MfE.

Some types of numbers (home/mobile/work) are not transfered to the phone, I would guess this is because the phone doesn't know how to map the type from Google to it's own format. On Google you are allowed to select type "custom" for a telephone number and enter your own text for the type. I haven't managed to get any of these synced, would it be possible to store these as "other" on the N9?

Re: N9/N950 Email/Mail for Exchange - Get help & give feedback here

I changed my password for google account, and now email and caldav are failing to sync.. From what I'm reading, it should automatically prompt for a new password if it fails due to password, but its not doing that (using 1.2)..
And there does not seem to be any way to manually change the password (other than deleting both the gmail and caldav accounts and creating them again)?

emm, 6 MfE accounts?)) we have a limitation in 5 MfE accounts... ;) I suppose that your problem is caused by too much connections that are established always (for always-on mode). More over, if you have some favorite folders in Gmail accounts you have on established connection per favorite folder plus connection for inbox. My advise to you is to switch some of the accounts on 10 or 20 mins interval instead of always on. I don't have any other idea (yet).

P.S. my idle consumption is 7-10mA for 2 gmail accounts, 1 MfE and 1 POP accounts. However, I'm usually using scheduled sync (don't see much point in always-on mode, but it is a personal preference  )

No, all MfE contacts will be deleted during the account deletion.

NOTE: in PR1.2 there is a field in the contact's card that shows you contact's service (Facebook, Exchange, etc.).

Like I wrote it before - it is a protocol limitation. So, no, it can't be fixed.

I haven't managed to get any of these synced, would it be possible to store these as "other" on the N9?

emm, never tried it, so... I guess we need to check it :-D

And there does not seem to be any way to manually change the password (other than deleting both the gmail and caldav accounts and creating them again)?

well, re-creation of the account(s) is the simplest way, but we are good heroes, right?)) So, we are going to make it the right way :D .Can you check the messageserver logs during manual sync? What error is received from server?

Hmm, demo effect. Just as I was planning on doing a new manual sync to get fresh logs, the password dialog box popped up :p

So I guess everything is now working fine for me again.

I have a Gmail account configured as an "Other Email Account" and I have noticed that when sending plain-text emails that a newline is not included after my replies, even when explicitly entered into the email.

So that an email may end up looking like this:

Has anyone had these sort of issues before?

Thanks.

good news :)

Just a small note: servers usually allows to use "old" password a little bit more for recently connected devices. So, usually you will not get this "sign-in" view instantly right after you changed the password on the server side.

One issue was fixed, but a regression was introduced resulting in the same battery drainage pattern.
Have a look what the Nokia employee responsible for this fix wrote:

Yes that's correct, I strongly urged the release manager, multiple times, to
put the fix into 1.2 but it didn't make it in. I've also done the same for the
next release, including more requests this week, but unfortunately the fix is
still not in that yet either.

As best I can tell release management doesn't understand/believe that it's
important that this bug should be fixed and that fixing this issue should be
considered high priority.

It can't hurt if customers continue to request this bug be fixed, in comments
and by voting for this bug.
Currently I keep my GMail account syncing every 10 minutes, to avoid this problem. When it happens and I do not notice in time - my battery goes down in 2-3 hours from full charge.

Do you know why N900 worked with more than one number?

On the other note: Does anyone knows how to copy text from an inbox email (not the text that I type in, but text from somone else's email) to paste into an sms or calendar, etc?

Thanks!

@Discoveryellow
You have to move message in question to the Drafts folder, then find it there and start editing it. Pretty complicated and unconvenient, but does the trick.
