I have the same issue, configured using gmail account. But since I rarely send emails (maybe 2-3 in total) I attributed it to being my own fault when composing the mail...

Sergey,
i got 6 MfE accounts using your hack stated in the MeMailSettings app you developed.

I'm coming from a corporate background so email is vital for me as it was in my blackberry. is there any method where the syncing for MfE be timed at 20 minutes or whatever value but any new mail being pushed to the phone instantly when it arrives as i dont think that's possible. hence the need to set it to always-up-to-date.

thanks a ton for helping us with our queries here.

Re: N9/N950 Email/Mail for Exchange - Get help & give feedback here

Here is another MfE question regarding calendar. Did it work for anyone to Accept calendar appointment invitation from an email and then the appointment details would add to the calendar automatically?

Oh, also in my address book some contacts do not have the label that they are in sync with MfE while some do. Does anyone know what the deal is? Sorry about all the questions and thank you much in advance!

Does Win phone 7 email system work better with all these problems? (Multiple phones per contact synchronization, copy text from inbox emails, etc.) Just curious what other Nokia products expirienc.is like.

Calendar sync issues

Hi, as there is no Calendar thread, I would post there:
After 1.2 my calendar start syncing only some of the invites from the Exchange to N9. Some of the events are not present on device, despite being on Exchange.
I could not even find what a pattern is, suspect that events which are not getting synchronized are ones created in recent 48(24) hours(?)
I deleted and recreated my exchange account, however old calendar is still on device and I didn't found a way to delete it.
Any advice?

You can sync more than one phone on N9 too, but you can't sync two mobile phones ("mobile" means category) or two "home" phones for each contact. And I'm sure that N900 can't do it as well (like i wrote before - it is a protocol limitation). Probably on N900 phones mapping is working in a bit different way (I don't know, I wan't a Fremantle dev and I don't have N900).

You have to move message in question to the Drafts folder, then find it there and start editing it. Pretty complicated and unconvenient, but does the trick.

yeah, since everything, that you described is what always-on mode doing... ;) Well, I'm afraid with 9 accounts in always-on it is complicated to decrease energy consumption. I will think a bit more and... well, who knows may be I'll have some ideas about your issue? :)

As I can see there might be few issues/bugs with calendar's appointments:

1) Server issue (For example it seems that Exchange 2.5 server(s) got a bug when event is not synced with the device for some unknown to me reason). In this case event is not added in calendar, because we didn't receive it from the server.

2) I can see a bug in calendar application. When you are pressing a "send" or "don't send" button when accepting invitation, your answer will be synced with server only on a next sync attempt (even if account is in always-on mode you should sync it manually or wait until sync is happened automatically). Since calendar entry appears in the calendar (on the device) only when it is created on server "the appointment details would add to the calendar automatically" is not working for you :)

3) You are not in always-on mode, so the appointment will be added in calendar automatically, but only after next synchronization.

Emm, just a wild guess. Maybe they are in sync with Facebook, Skype or any other service?

Just one doubt. Did as-daemon crash before you deleted the account? Well, in theory you might delete all calendars, then re-sync all of them... but let me think a bit more, probably there is something else can be done to fix those calendars. Btw, are you sure that it is "old" calendars and not a new one but with the same names and colors?

Re: N9/N950 Email/Mail for Exchange - Get help & give feedback here

Hi all,

I'm on pr 1.2 and I've had no email problems until recently. When I first got the phone, used, it had 1.1. I set up two emails under Accounts (gmail and yahoo) and they were working fine until a few days ago. Now, the Yahoo account is constantly asking me for my password when it wants to update the mailbox. I enter the password (correctly) over and over and once in a while it will actually work, but usually it will not. Here are my yahoo account settings on the phone

Incoming
imap4
username (my email in full)
imap.mail.yahoo.com
SSL
port 993

outgoing
smtp.mail.yahoo.com
SSL
port 465
Plain Password authentication

any ideas? It's really frustrating since I use a password with caps and numbers.. and typing it in verrrry slowly 6 times in a row to make sure i do it correctly (which i do) every time and still being stuck is frustrating me. I have gone back to my desktop, typed in my supposed password in notepad and copy/pasted into a browser to log in and it works, so I know for sure it is the correct password.....

thanks in advance

Some types of numbers (home/mobile/work) are not transfered to the phone, I would guess this is because the phone doesn't know how to map the type from Google to it's own format. On Google you are allowed to select type "custom" for a telephone number and enter your own text for the type. I haven't managed to get any of these synced, would it be possible to store these as "other" on the N9?

emm, never tried it, so... I guess we need to check it :-D

After reading your other posts this is starting to sound like a protocol limitation as well :( . It seems likely that contacts entered using custom fields in Google are not synced using MfE. But I'm still missing the "Other" field, which also seems to be custom in some way... though this might be a localization issue with Google since I'm using it in Swedish.

Hi Sergey,

Do you know any active bug that has the following behavior?
1. Create a other mail account, set download option to header only.
2. Find a place with bad signal so network has high latency. Reply to an email and send the reply out.
3. Email db seems to save the reply's header immediately even though the email has not be sent out.
4. Try sending yourself another email before the reply in outbox is sent.....
5. Mail db got broken afterwards, headers could be downloaded but when opening mail it says something like' Error opening the mail'

I only experienced this once and changed the download option since....

yes, fixed in PR1.2.

//----------------------------------------------------------------------------
About battery drain. I'm using the PR1.2 image and I'm usually charging my device 1.5 times per two days :) I've got a Facebook account, 2 Skype accounts, 1 google account, 1 POP (other mail) account and 1 exchange account. I'm usually set schedule settings as 10-30 mins for peak interval and 2-4 hours for off-peak. Of course "always up-to-date" will increase your battery consumption, because in this mode we shouldn't close a connection with the server at all.

In addition: http://harmattan-bugs.nokia.com/show_bug.cgi?id=63#c5 bug in QMF. Hopefully will be fixed in PR1.2.

P.S. According to "battery usage" application usually one of the most "expensive" app on my device is the Galaxy On Fire

hi, on my ubuntu laptop I also have 2 skype accounts, however on N9 (also linux based phone) when I add a second skype account it says that the other account will be disabled.

since you mentioned 2 skype accounts, can you please teach me how to enable 2 skype accounts to be on-line simultaneously on my N9?

many thanks!

There shouldn't be any issue(s) regarding localization. Issue might come from the protocol (protocol limitation issue) or that contact's application doesn't have an appropriate field (contact's field mapping issue) or it is a bug in as-daemon that none of the testers noticed :-D (as-daemon bug issue :) ).

Reply is always saved on the device immediately (non-MfE reply). This email in case of successful send moves to the account's 'Sent Items' folder.

I don't think that your issue related to download option. ' Error opening the mail' doesn't mean that DB is broken. More likely that you caught one of the Charset detection issues or something else similar to it. Btw, are you using hotmail? I saw similar issue with hotmail (not sure that there is bug in public bugzilla about this issue ).

Sorry for a small misinformation, I got only one skype account enabled at the same time :) In theory, I think it is possible to write an application that can enable your second account, but I have no idea how it will work or will it work at all.

Re: N9/N950 Email/Mail for Exchange - Get help & give feedback here

Hi, a few days ago all of my mails stopped syncing. I was using the "Google" account and another IMAP4 account. The scheduled sync still worked, but clicking the sync button in mail app did nothing and since yesterday, even the scheduled syncs stopped working.

I removed all mail accounts (rebooted), added one IMAP4 account and one MfE account and the current state is that:

- MfE syncs automatically as scheduled
- The IMAP4 account doesn't sync as scheduled
- Clicking the sync button in mail app does nothing, both MfE and IMAP4 stay forever in the "checking the mailbox" status

I even tried entering wrong username and password for the IMAP account, but there isn't even an error message appearing... So I'm assuming it never even tries to connect with the server.

Is there anything I can reset? Removing the accounts and re-adding doesn't help...

Have you tried to reboot the device? or at least re-open Email application? Looks like you got some kind of a problem with messageserver (since MfE is syncing as it should while IMAP is not syncing anymore). Most probably simple device reboot should help.

Rebooted, several times, also rebooted after deleting all mail accounts and before adding them again. Also closed and re-opened mail app, also ssh'd to device and killed fenix, then re-opened... No help.

Note that also MfE is not syncing either if I hit the refresh button within mail client, it only synchronises when scheduled. IMAP (or google mail) does neither...

Ok... it definitely was a problem with messageserver. Enabled logging and found this in .fenix.log:

There was no messageserver.log, and it wasn't running either - so I assumed it doesn't get started at boot at all. Syslog didn't show anything meaningful either and starting /usr/bin/messageserver by hand didn't really help much either. This was all that Google found. It did point me to the /home/user/.qmf folder though (which was grown to 340M!).

I deleted the .qmf folder and rebooted - messageserver started again and fenix works as expected :) I added all accounts back and it's running okay...even after a reboot.

My guess is that it might have something to do with the fact that I deleted about 3000 messages from each mailbox some time before this all started and together with the overgrown .qmf folder messageserver just couldn't handle it. .qmf is now about 1.6M big, so that's better too.

Hey guys -- the corporate IT folks cut my ability to sync my N9 with their Exchange server. I've been digging around everywhere (/etc, /home, google, these forums, etc...) and cannot find how to change the Activesync Device Typestring on my N9. Does anyone know where it's stored or how to change it? I'd like to make it look to the exchange server as if my handset is Android / iOS so I can sync back up and get my emails / calendars, etc...

Thanks!

Hi ! Thansk for the response. I had gotten fed up with it and disabled the account (did not delete) for a few days.. after turning it back on yesterday it was working normally, so I don't know what's up.. if it happens again, I will do as you suggest and enable logging to give you more information.

Yeah, I saw that issue few times too. For somereason somebody/something stores ThreadId for message(s) as 0, so that's why they are "disappear" from the Thread View. There is/was a bug about it in internal bugzilla. IIRC it is fixed (at least in PR1.3) and even probably by me :)

Nice to hear that you fixed your problem. To bad there is no logs from emssageserver to find out what was wrong (as far as I know we don't have any bug similar with yours issue).
P.S. 340Mb is not so biig value for more that 3000 messages ;) (probably with attachments).

I fear that if this is not fixed for PR 1.3, it won't be fixed at all :(

Thanks zlatko for confirming this ;)

And just to make sure that I'm right, can you check QMF's database ( /home/user/.qmf/database/qmf.db ). Did "missed" messages got parentThreadId 0?

Hi ! Thansk for the response. I had gotten fed up with it and disabled the account (did not delete) for a few days.. after turning it back on yesterday it was working normally, so I don't know what's up.. if it happens again, I will do as you suggest and enable logging to give you more information.

thx !

IIRC Yahoo! server doesn't like when somebody trying to check the email too often and that's why it returns a error on LOGIN operation (and because of that error we are showing the "password" pop-up dialog).

I am really frustrated. I powered down my phone, and when I turned it back on, and pressed the email icon, it asks to set up my mail!!!!!!! I can not see my old mail accounts. What is going on here????

emm, I've got few guesses.

1) Accounts DB is corrupted, so that's why Email application thinks that there is no configured accounts.

2) Email application can't get an access to the accounts, because DB is blocked by some process.

3) something else...

Can you take a look at the fenix logs and check errors that should be there?

I dont have time to do it. I cleared the device, and set up my email again. Working OK now, but afraid that it will recur.

it works in Ubuntu, maybe it can work in our phone too!

Not long after sending a email from my hotmail account using my phone my hotmail account was compromised. What are the chances that this was caused by me sending that email from my phone (so far all scans are coming up clean on my computer and I do not got to dodgy websites etc)?

Today I encountered missing e-mail message without a thread view enabled. It is in my GMail inbox, I can see it in webmail, but not in N9's client. Tried turning on/off threaded view - nothing changes.

Re: N9/N950 Email/Mail for Exchange - Get help & give feedback here

Not sure this is the place to ask but here goes anyway. How to I use terminal to change the password for one of my email accounts? I have had to change all my email account passwords as I recently had one broken into and I have changed them to highly complex passwords that are all one hundred characters long so typing them out by hand is highly error prone.

I have tried copying and pasting them from a text file but the character string flow keeps getting broken so it never copies correctly.

My last chance is that I can use putty to ssh into my phone and edit the file that contains my store password for my email accounts.

Thanks

Hi everybody, first time back here since getting my n9! I went from N900 to Lumia, boy what a mistake that was so now I'm back.
I would like to know if there is a way of keeping exchange contacts separate from from your main contacts? On Windows Phone you can hide them and they only show if you search, and on iPhone you can have two separate contact lists. Can anything similar be done on the N9 so all my work contact do not hog my phone book?
Secondly is there a mod for the security pin request when you have exchange setup so that it can be set to longer longer than 5 minutes or turned off completely?

Tick the box in its setting that says "non-provisionable device" is probably that option you are after.

2 Attachment(s)
I still have problems syncing with our exchange 2007 server after installing firmware 1.2.
I always get a red arrow on the top of the screen. The logs from my device are attached. I also attached the request and answers from the exchange server.
It would be great if someone from nokia could have a look at it?

I cannot add any accounts to my n9
It's a white n9 made in finland
PR 1.2 (30.2012.07-1_pr_001)

Tried adding Nokia account, they say service unavailable
Tried adding google account, it refuses to do the transfer. Transfer failed.
Tried adding Youtube account, it gets stuck trying to verify my credentials
Same with dropbox
Restart doesn't fix problem...I'm not happy :'(

edit:
I managed to get facebook and twitter added, after repeated attempts, I guess it was being temperamental. I still have issues syncing my google account via exchange though. The download just refuses to start...not sure what's up with that

Apologies to not getting back sooner, swamped by work. Thanks for advice.
On the end I decided to reflash, this rectified the problem.
It wasn't (probably) bug described as events did not synced even when manually triggering "Sync calendars" from the menu within Calendar app. Even after all exchange accounts were deleted from N9, still there was one calendar called Exchange and I didn't found a way to delete it.

In unrelated topic, I would like to report one bug and one (minor) feature request for the remote search in the global directories. The search reports "no contacts found" when data connection is not already on, i.e it did not initiate connections on its own. Also, "allow connection in background" has to be ON in order to use this feature.
As per feature request, it would be nice if the search could be initiated from withing Telephone app, or from email to: and cc: fields. Currently it only works from within Contact app.

Someone please help me!!!

I bought this phone 3 days ago and it works fine, the only problem is that I don't get notifications for new e-mail ever!

I have my e-mail in "other e-mail account" it is with live.com.mx, it just never notifies me about e-mail, I have to go to "mail" and refresh it to look at my new mails, please help me!

I already deleted the account and added it again, I did reset the system and nothing!

set up your account with exchange instead if you want push email. If a ten minute interval is ok for you, change it under sync settings of the mail account you have already set-up using other mail account.
