Re: N9/N950 Email/Mail for Exchange - Get help & give feedback here

Hi

Had problems with my iCloud email since a couple of days.
Constantly getting a popup message to fill in my password. (was working before so had no clue what caused the issue)

So after a fight of a couple of hours and a lot of changing settings / uninstalling apps (as was instructed in this thread) i was able to solve the issue.

Apparently I had to change the server settings, so for those of you that are struggling with iCloud servers, here's the solution that worked for me:

Incoming mail server (iMap)
imap.mail.me.com (this was new to me)
SSL: YES
Port: 993
user: user@me.com
passw: your iCloud passw

SMTP
smtp.me.com
SSL: NO
Port: 587
Authentication: Plain Passw
user: user@me.com
passw: your iCloud passw

Good luck with it!

how to disable XLIST?

is there a way to manually disable XLIST for an IMAP account?

One of my 3 IMAP accounts has a lot of mailboxes (just under 550) and looking at the logs I see that the mail client spends most of it's time doing XLIST. So I'd like to disable this. On the phone I am mainly interested in my inbox and am willing to live with the disadvantages of it not refreshing the list constantly rather that have timeouts and battery drain.

Well, hotmail got some uninteresting rules on the server, during tests we've met few times that our accounts "were compromised". IIRC it is happens when you are using your account from a lot different places and/or sending a lot "strange" (from hotmail server point of view) emails. So, I think that chances are 50/50.

Yeah, we have a bug about it. Looks like some emails sometimes getting a 0 thread Id (and that's why they are not shown in thread view).

On Windows Phone you can hide them and they only show if you search, and on iPhone you can have two separate contact lists. Can anything similar be done on the N9 so all my work contact do not hog my phone book?

Well, AFAIK you can do this:
Contact's application->"show"->tap on a preferable service.

Check the comment 671. I suppose this option should help.

I always get a red arrow on the top of the screen. The logs from my device are attached. I also attached the request and answers from the exchange server.
It would be great if someone from nokia could have a look at it?

Well, I can see few problems and looks like it is a server issues:
1) Here is the first issue. Server's reply is in plain text:
Code:

[1357] Apr 10 14:45:49 [Error] AS_LIB : Wrong response content type text/plain (expected: application/vnd.ms-sync.wbxml or application/vnd.ms-sync.multipart)
[1357] Apr 10 14:45:49 [Error] AS_LIB : Sync finished with http status 5

2)Second issue:
Code:

[1357] Apr 10 15:20:58 [Debug] Network :  Transfer 4211232 : network operation finished with http status 302 "Found"
[1357] Apr 10 15:20:58 [Debug] Network :  Transfer 4211232 : hdr  <= Date : Tue, 10 Apr 2012 13:15:57 GMT
[1357] Apr 10 15:20:58 [Debug] Network :  Transfer 4211232 : hdr  <= Location : http://www.dom12.ch/error_502.html

This is mean that we got error 502 (Bad Gateway) from the server.

There might be something else, but looks like it is something wrong with the server. Is it a free implementation of the Exchange server?

Also, "allow connection in background" has to be ON in order to use this feature.
As per feature request, it would be nice if the search could be initiated from withing Telephone app, or from email to: and cc: fields. Currently it only works from within Contact app.

well, I suppose it is to late for a feature request (Telephone app), however, contacts search from the Global Address Book is already working from the To:, Cc: and Bcc: fields. If it is not, probably you have some connections issues? Or you just need to wait a bit.

And about "allow connection in background". Contacts search should work even when it set to "OFF", but there is a nasty bug that might 'cancel' search request even when connection is established. Anyway for the end user it still looks like nothing is happened...

Well, it looks like "allow connection in background" is set to "OFF". If yes then scheduled sync will not work (this setting is designed to work like that) and only manual sync will work.
Also, you might try to reboot the device if "allow connection in background" is 'ON'.

Point me please, this thread is 68 pages long.

Sometimes via MFE into gmail, N9 will occasionally show an email as unread even though it is read.

I have thread email ticked, read the email both on the N9 and via gmail in browser. Synced several times, and ticked "mark all as read".

Today I have three emails having this issue.

I think the easyest solution is to use "normal sized" passwords :)
If someone could try 1 billion of passwords per second for your account, it would still take them more than 400 years in average to find a 10-character password (with all the characters availlable on qwerty keyboard and the shift key). for a 16-character password, it would take 500 billion times more attemps.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I really don't think adding 84 chars to that is necessary :)
If you want to go easy on the typing, a random 20-char a-zA-Z password is already stronger than the 16-char all characters password discussed above.

Point me request again.

I have three different from addresses that all run through my one google email account.

It would be wonderful to be able to specify any one of the three when composing an email on the 9.

Possible?

I was reading today that there was a vulnerability in the Hotmail that was just patched. A simple search will give you plenty of results; here for starters:

well, you can configure 3 different accounts and send emails via different accounts (with appropriate 'from' address). Yes, it's not the best idea, but still better than nothing.

Re: N9/N950 Email/Mail for Exchange - Get help & give feedback here

Two questions I have around the email client.

1. I have noticed (perhaps after Pr1.2)) that there is now a limit on the size of attachments i can send via emali - which is 5MB.

2. When I send an email to an address not currently in my address book - is there an option (as in the N900) to save that email address as a new contact?

First one is more critical as sometimes you arent able to divide/break up the file and bluetooth isnt an option. I could use dropbox but why should i have to? my email client is configured to use my gmail account - which i think has a 20MB attachment limit?

Thank you

Yeah, that limitation was added due to a few issues when user tries to send an email with big attachment via servers that got a limit on the email's size (like 5MBs :) ). You can change this setting easily. To change it you should add a line 'maxAttachmentSize=xxx' (where xxx is a size in MBs IIRC) in a 'General' section of the file /home/user/.config/Nokia/Fenix.conf.

So, it should looks like:

[General]
maxAttachmentSize=20

NOTE: maybe you'll need to restart the Fenix to apply new setting, but IIRC it should work fine without restart.

You can open Sent Items, open the email that you sent, click on a header (top part of the message viewer screen where it shows subject, recipients, etc.), then click on the recipient (from To field) and click "Save".

P.S. I have a small question to all of you. Should I add some "easy config" mode in MeMailSettings to add the ability to change some Email/MfE settings (like attachment size, etc.)? Can't promise that I would have a lot of free time to implement it

Re: N9/N950 Email/Mail for Exchange - Get help & give feedback here

Definetly would be good to have that sort of option in MeMailSettings. The choice of 5MB as default seems rather low for most servers.

Hi,

I have a googlemail account via MFE.
I had it set to sync 2 weeks back.
Now I downloaded MeMailSettings and set this account to sync back all emails (and fetch full MIME).
(in accounts it now says 3 days, I read somewhere this is ok, right?)
But even after a reboot older mails are not synced.
I already tried setting older mails to unread, but even those are not synced.
Am I doing anything wrong or is there anything else I need to do in order to have all mails synced to my device?

Thanks in advance!

it looks like password's DB is corrupted (I suppose device constantly asking you to enter password(s) for you accounts and so on), so IIRC the only way to fix it is to remove Accounts DB.

Did you "save" that 3 days setting ? if yes, then don't do this again :) Try to disable/enable it again in MeMailSettings and do not change this setting in the accounts application.
BTW, I'm not sure that "fetch full MIME" is working fine with Google (because it is not a pure MfE, etc.), moreover, it is not necessary for Google to use this option.

No, I didn`t "save" 3 days in settings. It was changed from two weeks to 3 days after applying "Sync all back" in MeMailSettings - just as its supposed to be if I understand right.
But your second hint did the trick - deactivated "fetch full MIME" and now all mails are synced to my N9! :p
Thanks a lot! Great job and valuable enhancement! :D

I have tried many times but failed. I have reboot the device, set up the MFE again but no use. Same issue appears again and again.

Re: N9/N950 Email/Mail for Exchange - Get help & give feedback here

For me the synchronisation doesnt work any more as well.

m.hotmail.com : invalid host address
snt-m.hotmail.com : invalid host address

dub-m.hotmail.com : long synchronisation time, no error message, but finally the mails get never synchronized (even after synchronisation for the whole night, without error message)

I have found dub-m.hotmail.com in my activesync.log logfile, just as Sergey has drescribed above. But still it doesnt work for me, maybe for somebody else it does.

The thing is, with dub-m.hotmail.com the device (n9) tries to sync all the time. The "cursor" is turning all day, without any result.

I have emails in my account and set the settings to 2 weeks, but still the sync function it is turning and turning (and my phone is getting hotter and hotter...), but the mails dont show up on the phone.

So I am happy for any further information.

Oh man,

now I really got into trouble.

I have tried everything to get back the connection, also deleting the account on the phone and setting up a new account.

Since all my contacts are synced with hotmail, of course, all my contacts are not on the phone any more.

This is really a mess. Of course my contacts are still in hotmail, but all my contacts on the phone are gone.

I am lost in space. When googling it seems that it is not related to any device, but to hotmail.

Is there any way to somehow get back my contacts to the phone without typing them?

Thanks, hosick.

Well not really, as it suggests that different servers work for different people at different times and different places. i.e. even if I find the CURRENT redirect server thewre is no guarantee that it will still be the correct server tomorrow.

And the N9 bug that means the MfE redirect is not picked up means that making a manual change is at best a temporary respite

I'm better off changing to a POP3/SMTP config
