Saying good bye
Alright guys...
Although i never posted much here its been a great help and a pleasure. Unfortunatly my N900 has broken for the last time & i think its finally time to move on. Nokia care won't fix it & its too costly to pay for the repair (usb broken off - AGAIN). Although I proberbly could go for another n900 it does seem to be slowing down here & the browser on it was struggling more & more with flash & what not. I decided i would go for a Motorola Droid 3, Its pretty much the most powerful phone with a keyboard (which i could find) So thanks again guys, i just hope i find an android community thats as great, helpful & knowlageable as you guys. good bye :)

Re: Saying good bye
I have found none - I mean no android community is on par with the maemo community. This is the reason I would have appreciated an dandroid section here.

Re: Saying good bye
sorry but i have to say this.
but you should have soldered that USB down but again it seems no matter how many times i say it people here won't listen..... |
Re: Saying good bye
Yet another member who's leaving!!

Re: Saying good bye
@Vetsin Your bang on there.
2 Reasons; one i cannot solder that small second i didn't want to open the case breaking my warrenty (which proved useless in the end) Craig |
Re: Saying good bye
Yes - bit of a catch-22 this soldering business because should anything else fail, especially something repairable like a faulty key-mat or one of the camera LEDs, then you're shafted unless your happy to shell out. And lets face it the build quality is one of the N900's major floors, so it may well happen. On the other hand, the USB is the most notable and frequently occurring h/w fault so it would make sense to attend to it, if you feel up to it.
... mmm ... conundrum! |

So 'vetsin' and others, keep relying on warranty, when what 85-95%+ problems that needs to be fixed/replaced under warranty is the USB........ Living is a risk every day, the day you disregard warranty you live for real, or have taken the red pill, if so welcome to the real world :D |
Re: Saying good bye
@dr_frost
Dilemma #1 is the warranty. #2, which is the bigger problem, is the skill. Hehe There are success stories of usb port restoration here in Nokia Philippines, though. Plus I have filed down my usb connector and charger's 'teeth'. :) |

Re: Saying good bye
i don't understand the skills problem... however, without usb, it's useless, so if you break something when soldering de pins, there is no differences, the device still useless.
Honestly, since i tried nitdroid, i'm not sure about android... where is the multitask things ? it's so boring to navigate betwin windows !! Maemo is the perfect os on a powerful 900mhz 32gigas device. |
Re: Saying good bye
If we where all closer, then no problem, i would fix all your N900's, but the soldering down is VERY easy to do, else you must know someone that works with electronics, even on a hobby level, which is what i consider my skills to be (hobby/general purpose).
Sending N900 to me and getting the USB soldered can be done, but you will miss your N900 for x days, and the shipping cost will probably be well not cheap, i would not take more then about 20$ for the "work". Also Good Bye to op, at some point there will not be many left here, only us that needs our N900 because nothing else offers what it does. |
Re: Saying good bye
Thanks again - Didn't mean for this post to turn into a big USB debate - I just dont have the skills or tools to open, disasemble fix & reasemble it unfortunatly & since my upgrade is due i thought i would give android a try.

all the broken N900s. Of course one with the appropriate tools and skills (not me, I do not have the tools and I only have minor soldering skills). And of course there are issues of a legal nature for this kind of business. |

Re: Saying good bye
Speaking of buying and selling anyone else seen this lol seems way too cheap. their reason is because he deals straight from the manufacturer??

I had seen your thread, but I am low on money a.t.m. Patience sucks, at least, mine. Just like gravity, that caused my first scratch on my n900, last week, b.t.w.. |
Re: Saying good bye
not sure why anyone would bring his or her N900 to a NOKIA care point, except to get another NOKIA model (N8?) returned.
noticed however on a local e-bay sort of site that some "mobile clinic" site was offering N900s ?new? for around 200 bucks probably refurbished; not clear whether there is warranty but if there is they are possibly offering it directly, thus no NOKIA warranty  goodbye & good luck Craig :) EDIT: just noticed Dr Frost's post  probably is a knock off... |

Forcing my first dissassembies to unbend some "frame parts" ... :D But the undestructible *N* survived both times with no serious damage. And it's still working fine like from day one... back to Topic... Bye bye Robbo... Take care and beware of the droids ;) Cheers, J4ZZ |
Re: Saying good bye
just looked on the igoods site and they're selling them for £99 lol shame 3 people have already purchased
take it steady CraigRobbo and if you get bored of the droid there's always some n900's available on ebay :) |
Re: Saying good bye
i love my community and i dont think any other community can have so many intelligent members or developers and if i was you i would have bought another N900 or get it repaired (does not matter how much costly it was)
i bought a second-hand N900 and my usb port is still intact and working perfectly i take care a lot of my usb and put data cable in it only when i need to flash (except charger)it otherwise i use open ssh BTW good bye! |
