The fact that the screen's outer layer is designed curvred, to touch the ground first is of not much help either.
Yeah people have already pointed this out, long before you.
Just a down-side of the design, everything has a down-side.

Also, apparently the silicone case that comes with it isn't designed to protect the screen.
So we'll have to wait for better designs...
A better design though will mean a less seamless swipe, we can't have our cake & eat it.

Glad, Jalyst, you seem to agree that useful info is worth repeating as is keeping this thread up to prevent 'you should have researched first before deciding to drop test your naked N9' style conversations.

I found a scratch on mine yesterday. It's not visible unless I view it from a certain angle.

Still makes me sad. :(

They're tiny little holes

My friend dropped my N9 off the coffee table in the restaurant. It tumbled and the screen part did slide a little bit across the tiled floor. It wasn't even a very hard impact or anything. But my N9 ended up with 2 tiny round chips in the middle of the screen (it distorts the displayed color below it) and also a scratch of around an inch long along the middle of the screen. (You can feel the scratch by running your nail across it)

This was 3 days after I got my N9 64GB. I wanted to cry.

I feel with you man, but rest assured you will soon be joined by many others in this experience.

I was trying to take a picture of my wife in front of an ancient harbour with some light plastic bag of noodles hanging on my arm.

The phone, which identified immediately as slippery b!tch, flipped into my in my rather dry fingers as I tried to reach for the on screen shutter button and made it's escape downward the beton tile floor..

I caught it almost against my belly, but it jumped away again, then I had nothing in my hand, no phone on the floor.

We discovered the phone hanging between my jacket and the light grocery bag.

Marginal adhesion to nylon and cotton :)

Since I had raised my voice "don't touch the bag" my wife smiled: "there we go being the servant of the next shiny toy".

This was my first weekend. Never happened with N900 from which I confidently take pictures out of vehicles from hight or from my riding bicycle.

This N9 has certainly an auto-destruct mode by design. A HW Camera shutter button would surely help to prevent dropping of the phone when rushing to take pictures.

Who was the idiot that decided against a "string attach hole" (sorry don't know the word in EN - to save design / production costs - read what is applicable)

Note that this phone has the ambition to be called "object of beautiful design"
Since design ask for being exposed I use only the Nokia certified carying case (that cost me Euro 27)

Should read: Protect your Nokia N9 from damage and dirt *when you don't use it* with this sleek CP-553 carrying case.

Guys, thanks for sharing your stories, this thread saved me $696.00 :)

Was not able to make up my mind whether to buy or not to, I was one day going to buy and then next not, but today I decided to buy it but then came across this thread.

It does pay to stay in touch with this community (its almost a ritual for me to come to TMO atleast once a day)

I will stay with n900 for a while now :)

If this is the most of your worries, there is no reason to be discouraged. I installed this, and have had 0 issues b/c of it:

http://www.amazon.com/Skinomi-TechSk...0070200&sr=8-1

This, coupled with the slim skin/case that comes with the N9 protects it amazingly. If you really want to go an extra mile, a pouch like this will protect it even more, possible overkill though:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Black-Zipper...item5ae2818118

Since this phone was a gift from the wife, I am using the Skinomi protection with the nokia case, and she also got me the pouch above for if I go work out, or throw it in a bag in my locker at the hospital...yes, overkill...but since the phone is not under U.S. warranty, I have take decent care of it. :)

Doesn't your N9 come with a silicon case? Those from Asia does. The case fits so well that it's hard to see it is in a case and it certainly makes the grip better.

Yes that is certainly true.

But this silicon guard does not protect the vulnerable screen from keys or coins in the pocket so if you are into nursing you still need an extra external case which will need to be larger to also fit the silicon enhanced N9.
So doing you lose one great feature of the N9: very low profile pocketability.

Alternatively I am thinking of carving extra tiny grip lines in the phone's sides but only after I have confirmed firmly that this pentile AMOLED screen can't be improved / repaired under warranty.

Meanwhile if by any chance I successfully conduct the my first unprotected drop test I will post pictures here. :D
