N9 - Themes and Icon Customisation

All

Starting this thread to collect all the possible customisations that we can do around themes and icons. I am not an experience theme maker but from what I can see the N9 has no options at the moment to change the theme. I hope someone else can contribute to themes but i am willing to help where my design skills can come in handy.

Icons though work as per the N900. Install filebox from the Ovi Store and go to

Code:

/usr/share/icons/hicolor
to find all the icons.

Fonts can be found in
Code:

/usr/share/fonts
What are peoples thoughts/impressions on what new icons should look like. I am not a fan of the symbian fonts used in the N9 so looking to change the core system icons right away. I liked the early meego icons that were presented here:

http://meegoreview.com/wordpress/wp-...7941923182.png

Please share ideas/requests and lets start a community effort to customise the N9's UI in anyway we possibly can.

Re: N9 - Themes and Icon Customisation

If I wanted to change the icon of one of the web shortcuts would I look for it there? Issue is that the website didn't have a favicon so the N9 just used the generic browser icon, which is not very pretty.

Re: N9 - Themes and Icon Customisation

Unsure about the favicon. Haven't had a chance to explore the contents of webshortcuts.

Although I did find this site reference on meego.com. Someone created a tool for creating your own icons.

To change the name of a thumping open here

Quote:

/home/user/.local/share/applications
Icon is stored here with a random name
Quote:

/home/user/.grob/1
Theme elements are stored in various css files, so it would take forever to make an actual theme.

The good news is if you wanted to MeeGo has many more elements that can be themed.

For example the low power mode can have a logo on it and the colour of the text can be changed

Web Developers can create there own favicons that will be usuable on the N9, by following this guide

http://www.developer.nokia.com/Resou...app-icons.html

The custom icons are stored there, yes. The trouble is I want to create a new icon for a web page shortcut that has no icon of its own - so that it is displayed with the same icon as the web browser. How do I create an icon for that link?

Re: N9 - Themes and Icon Customisation

I just created my own, make a squarcle of the webpage logo and replace the file in that folder

noetus 2011-11-03 00:39

Re: N9 - Themes and Icon Customisation

Trouble is, the folder

Code:

/home/user/.grob/1
only contains icons that already exist for the web apps. If the web app only has a default applied icon, basically the same icon that the web browser has, there is no icon in that folder corresponding to it. My issue is figuring out how to create a new icon for the web app that doesn't already have one, not create a replacement icon for a web app that already has one.

Re: N9 - Themes and Icon Customisation

Is there someone working on this? The good news is that themes are inheritable so you dont need to start a theme from scratch. There's also a set of templates (svg) files in meegotoutch-theme-graphics git repo to create images and icons...

Is there any way to disable/change smilies? I mean three words, butt ug ly (see here for the full version). The hack for Maemo 5 apparently doesn't work because there is no /usr/share/rtcom-messaging-ui/ :(

Where, specifically, can I find the icons in the appgrid? I mean to design my own icons but I need to know what resolution to make them in and where to put them :( .

Most of the icons are in /usr/share/themes/blanco/meegotouch/icons, but some are in other places. Check out /usr/share/themes/ and /usr/share/icons/. I wonder why they couldn't put them all in one place.

NovaG:

MesInput is cool, no doubt about that, but how does it relate to smilies? I mean, if I create a keyboard with =D on it, it will be replaced with a damn ugly picture in the UI anyway.

What I'd like to do is to disable them completely for texts, and replace them with something less hideous elsewhere.

Icon Designer by profession here so am happy to help out whenever time allows.

Though I'm kind of stumped with a basic question.
I have Filebox installed and can view the icon files but how on earth can I shuttle files backwards and forwards between the laptop and my N9?

Re: N9 - Themes and Icon Customisation

Hi, im very interested of making some themes for n9.
Check out my themes for n8 (www.s60.com.ar), i think that the svg buttons and icons should be portable to n9.

The catch is that i don't have any idea of sudo and terminal things :)

I would like to know if there is a theme builder or something like that, and something to pack the theme in a deb file..

Thank you

Re: N9 - Themes and Icon Customisation

I've done some icon changing and wondering any1 know what could the solution to this: Skype and Youtube app icons just won't change, I've tried .png and .svg and none works..they are right resolution and names are correct.

Also, is it possible to change easily the squarcle icons (to square) in adressbook and the call icon(the one when som1 calls me and shows pic of the caller)? I'm just not rly a fan of the squarcles at all :P
