Upcoming Review- DeviceScape
The DeviceScape PR staff has been very responsive to my questions but I wanted to see if others have been using it, what they think, and what questions other users may have.

Re: Upcoming Review- DeviceScape
That looks interesting. I'd never heard of it before. So, is it like a registry of wifi hot-spots? Their site needs a FAQ.

Re: Upcoming Review- DeviceScape
I kind of used it once but not my cup of tea...

I'm also curious about this and had never heard of it before. I'm not sure it really offers that much, but maybe it's better than I'm thinking. |

Re: Upcoming Review- DeviceScape
So, it's Saturday morning and I don't have anything else to do so I installed Devicescape. I'll be out and around this weekend, we'll see if it has any usefulness in L.A.

Re: Upcoming Review- DeviceScape
Eh, I just tried this but unless you have an AT&T or etc. wifi account I don't see much point. Now if you had an AT&T, Cingular or Sprint wifi account then I could see it being very useful since you don't have to enter your info every time.

Re: Upcoming Review- DeviceScape
Does anyone have a T-Mobile hotspots or Earthlink WiFi account or similar want to be remote hands in this review?

I have an idea
As a stand alone product this is not that exciting. But if this company merged with http://boingo.com/ then they'd be on to something.

Re: Upcoming Review- DeviceScape
I installed DeviceScape on the N800 yesterday. Unfortunately, only their Windows client really supports all the features they are touting right now. However, they do still list the service as 'beta'. If they get things fully implemented for embedded devices, then this would be quite handy.
Of course, for it to really work, it needs to make it into a lot of embedded devices. So the real question is, how willing will the various big companies be to playing with a realtively small company for something as critical as the WiFi connection manager. On my laptop, though, I am still using the Boingo Wireless Connection manager. The DeviceScape system doesn't currently seem to understand hotspot aggregators like Boingo, which really front many hundreds of SSIDs. DeviceScape still appears to assume that there is a 1-to-1 association between SSID and HotSpot provider service. All in all, I'm glad I have something for my N800 now. But truth be told, with the current state of DeviceScape, I'd still rather have the Boingo Wireless Connection manager ported to the N800. DeviceScape is on the right track, though, and could eventually get to the point where it would be a valid replacement for the Boingo manager. |

Re: Upcoming Review- DeviceScape
worked for me with t-mobile.de, will check with my regular/free networks when i come back home.
note: be sure to remove the @t-mobile.de domain name from the username when registering the hotspot, else it won't login. |
