Re: PR1.1 has stuffed up the swipe down to close?
Yes, that's right, it closes from logo if I hold it in normal landscape.

Re: PR1.1 has stuffed up the swipe down to close?
It is confusing to talk about Nokia logo side when talking about app closing behaviour.
It has nothing to do with the principle of application closing in neither PR1.0 or PR1.1. 1) Portret only: for example, the Music application, just does not rotate. Closing: In PR1.0 it closes when you swipe from top to bottom of the application (yes from Nokia logo down, if you really want) 2) Limited rotating portret / landscape applications like the standard webbrowser do rotate but obviously always choose the Nokia logo for portret top side, and shift their top to the side clockwise from the Nokia logo when turning to landscape. The top of the limited rotating applications use only 2 sides of the screen. Closing: In PR1.0 it closes when you swipe from top to bottom of the application (yes from Nokia logo down when in portret mode, even when laying on the table, you never have to guess) 3) Endless rotating applications like Firefox -which are a pain- force the user to sit up straight to read / use the program. And life is not always straight up and sober. Even Nokia has taken a couple of minutes to brainstorm about his and came up with the correct solution: 2 side rotation only, allowing upside down reading. Closing of endless rotating programs: in PR1.0 they close like all programs reportedly close in PR1.1: by swiping from top of the physical phone down because that happens to be the top of the program due to the crazy rotating. Still makes sense as the user never need to think where is the sky. Feels like some PR1.1 developer has sneaked in his down voted idea when everybody was looking the other direction at the Lunia launch. Conclusion: Somebody smart please reverse to PR1.0 or make an option out of it? |
Re: PR1.1 has stuffed up the swipe down to close?
ste-phan: it kinda matters when I was under the assumption that music player could be closed swiping topdown from the buttonside when held in landscape.
Its just a way to say "the top of the device when held in normal portrait but when held in landscape instead" without it being overly difficult to understand what the meaning is. See, my understanding and recollection was that even if the app didnt rotate to landscape, it still closed as if it was in landscape if the device was helt like that (IE buttonside up). Looks like I was wrong though, which is seriously insanely weird since I vividly remember my being surprised that it was like I recall it was :P . And im not on any drugs either. so strange. |
Re: PR1.1 has stuffed up the swipe down to close?
I've always understood it to be top-to-bottom...
Regardless of orientation, & regardless of orientation/s the app supports. IIRC that's what Felipe was aiming for in his blog post just prior to the N9 being released: http://felipec.wordpress.com/2011/08...sane-behavior/ Pretty sure he outlined why he felt it's best that way (IIRC it was mostly in the comments). So perhaps Nokia just didn't have time to implement it till 1.1? It appears some @TMO don't agree with his rationale though. |

I think they didnt implement felipe's idea because of the simplistic carousel approach. Dumb people like not to remember which way to swipe. I bet Marko Ahtjiwjeofjwoj would agree. |

Re: PR1.1 has stuffed up the swipe down to close?
Its simple, if the application doesnt support or turn landscape, it should only close from top. otherwise you are just confusing the user.

Re: PR1.1 has stuffed up the swipe down to close?
I dont get whats so confusing, really. Top of the device.
I do however see why you are resistant to the change, its perfectly viable to close depending on the apps current orientation instead of the top. I dont know how this is done though, under the hood, wether or not the PR 1.1 system is better for battery or writing apps or whathaveyou. But if theres nothing relevant there, I totally support an option to lock the "closeswipe" to a certain direction. Like you could say "swipe from left of the phone (buttonless side) always closes app" or closing only from the portrait top (nokia logo) always closes app, etc. for those who want that. It would certainly be more consistant. Which is good. |

I don't get what the problem is, it's makes perfect logical sense to me... Always make it top-to-bottom, regardless of the ph's orientation, or the orientation/s the app supports. But I agree that there should be an option to configure it, for those who are fussy. Quote:
It's more confusing to the total n00b, than just making it always top-to-bottom. But I can see how more technical users might prefer what jakiman's highlighted. |
