Re: [Announce] CSSU stable release
The 2nd upgrade is here!
The list of changes can be found here: http://wiki.maemo.org/Community_SSU/...830.03.2012.29 The most interesting part probably is, that portrait wallpapers now work. Code:
gconftool-2 -s /apps/osso/hildon-desktop/portrait_wallpaper -t bool trueOf course this only works if you've enabled desktop rotation, todo that and other things see http://wiki.maemo.org/Community_SSU/FeaturesStable |
Re: [Announce] CSSU stable release
Update via HAM.
Problem with 9 desktop disappear. Greetings. |
Re: [Announce] CSSU stable release
"Removed zoom functionality."
Zoom on press still works although I do not see the line in transitions.ini. Please advise. Meanwhile, I am seeing graphic artifacts on the top black line in the Select connection screen. Rebooting made it go away, but now I'm seeing them on one of the desktop backgrounds. |
Re: [Announce] CSSU stable release
I found some parts of transitions.ini got changed, after this update.
A reboot fixed most, app shortcut size changed back to default. I used theme customizer to fix that. Thank you, for the update. |
Re: [Announce] CSSU stable release

About your graphical artifacts, I fear you've got a hardware problem there, the render code itself only changed for tasknav. But I also remember having weird artifacts from time to time on one of my devices, a reboot usually got rid of them though. |

Re: [Announce] CSSU stable release
My N900 that I have on CSSU stable takes ages (10 minutes or so) to get a GPS lock. Anyone else running CSSU stable have this problem?
My N900 running PR1.3 gets a lock in under 2 minutes, both in the same location both with network positioning turned on and connected to wifi. If nobody else running CSSU stable has this problem, then I can look for some other cause for this. |

I just jumped the ship from testing. Just before the last update of T and this was a good one for me. Things move slower in here but they are stable :)
E. Just tried to install Bluemaemo and I have a conflict with libeina0 which is something new as in T I just went OK. I had only install on extra specific package. Any hints? I konw that this is related to the app but it is no longer maintained. |
Re: [Announce] CSSU stable release -- doesn't install
TO SUM UP:
- CSSU Stable Upgrade does not install b/c my qt4 libs are at 4.6.2 -- CSSU requires >= 4.6.99 which did not get installed with _any_ of the regular updates i made previously! - how do i solve the conflict? ie (probably) how do i upgrade to the most recent qt packages or rather, why aren't they installed while doing the upgrade? they should be available somewhere with the new catalog(s) and APT is supposed to solve this kind of conflict automatically. - what exactly does this upgrade other than adding a repository ("catalog") to sources.list and run apt-get update && apt-get (dist-)upgrade - how do i accompish this upgrade on the command line? this HAM is crap and has never been usefull to me anyway. HERE'S THE LONG STORY ok, after reading around i decided to upgrade to CSSU. it did not leave a good impression, that http://wiki.maemo.org/Community_SSU only "explains" how to browse here and click there without a single mentioning of what's going on in the background -- and i pretty soon was to find out that that's a _serious_ flaw! i did everything as explained until point 7: "HAM will re-open and present a system upgrade called Maemo 5 Community SSU. Once installed, your device will reboot." HAM opens and displays several liqtm packages and on top "Maemo 5 Community SSU Package -- Stable update #3" hitting "Update All" sends me to "TO UPDATE YOUR DEVICE TO THIS VERSION OF THE OPERATING SYSTEM YOU MUST USE NOKIA PC SUITE ON YOUR PC. CONNECT THE DEVICE TO YOUR PC VIA A USB CABLE AND LAUNCH THE APPLICATION." which is obvious nonsense -- thankfully, the FAQ covers that and really -- there are conflicts whth several qt4 packages: libqt4-maemo5-* (<4.6.99) that's funny. i always did all updates, PR version is the latest available -- and there's only 4.6.2~git20100203-0maemo1 installed. - where is the qt >= 4.6.99 supposed to come from? - what kind of package is "Maemo 5 Community SSU Package"? i can't find it via apt-cache and thus not check anything, let alone install it via apt-get here's my sources.list (after the botched update) deb https://downloads.maemo.nokia.com/fremantle/ssu/apps/ ./ deb https://downloads.maemo.nokia.com/fremantle/ssu/mr0 ./ deb http://repository.maemo.org/extras/ fremantle-1.3 free non-free deb http://repository.maemo.org/community/ fremantle free non-free deb http://deb.opera.com/maemo fremantle-1.2 non-free deb http://repository.maemo.org/extras-testing/ fremantle free non-free deb http://bokomoko.de/~rd/maemo unstable/ with apt-get upgrade i see a bunch of packages -- but wouldn't that rather be apt-get dist-upgrade ? i just read this thread and see a lot of "flashing" mentioned -- that scares me: either those people have no idea what they're talking about or someone did really not get what DPKG/APT is all about. |
Re: [Announce] CSSU stable release
just for the records:
truns out i had to manually remove those libqt4-maemo5-* packages which still were at 4.6.2. no idea how that happend, but i put it down to NOKIA's way to break everything they took from Debian ... (just like my beloved error The following packages have unmet dependencies: upstart: PreDepends: sysvinit-utils (>= 2.86.ds1-23) or busybox (>= 3:1.6.1.legal-1osso8) but it is not going to be installed E: Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages. which remains apparently unfixable ) |
Re: [Announce] CSSU stable release

I have tried and encountered the same problem. Never installed Theme Customizer, by the way. FIX: I opened the Terminal to type the commands below (as described in the CSSU Wiki), but set these values to "false" instead of "true" (make sure to reboot afterwards). Code:
gconftool-2 -s /apps/osso/hildon-desktop/ui_can_rotate -t bool trueAnd then go back to Terminal and set this command only to "true". Code:
gconftool-2 -s /apps/osso/hildon-desktop/ui_can_rotate -t bool trueNow this doesn't solve the issue of being able to assign a wallpaper in portrait, but at least you won't have the black background while in portrait. For those who were able to make it work (separate wallpaper in portrait from landscape), care to share the steps? :) One thing I observed: after installing CSSU and the CSSU Features Configuration, setting "Rotation" to "X/Y (default)" didn't make any changes for me...I had to manually enable it by typing the gconftool-2 command as shown in the CSSU Wiki. In the prior versions there was no need to do that manually. Do you think this has something to do with the portrait wallpaper thing? Thanks! EDIT: Found this post: http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...ount=354...and it seems like one needs to "rotate" an image/wallpaper first for preparation in portrait mode. And then afterwards, set your Background Image while the N900 is in portrait mode (?). I'll try this and will give feedback. |
Re: [Announce] CSSU stable release
@topet2k12001
Code:
gconftool-2 -s /apps/osso/hildon-desktop/portrait_wallpaper -t bool trueTherefore: enable distinct portrait wallpapers --> reboot --> rotate device to portrait and set a wallpaper (instead of black background) --> be happy |

One more thing that I need help in confirming. This post: http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=704 said that he/she was able to resolve it by setting the "edit_mode_portrait" to be "true". Is this necessary as well to achieve the desired effect? Finally, do you have any recommendations for threads with good N900 portrait wallpapers for download? Much appreciated. :) |
Re: [Announce] CSSU stable release
Well... I also get the black portrait wallpaper. Can someone just point to the location where the wallpapers are stored for portrait mode, so I can directly throw the wallpapers there?
And yes, I tried setting a new wallpaper in portrait mode after reboot. Still black, but it replaced my landscape wallpaper (and streeeeetched the photo). ??? SOLVED: Apparently wallpaper image sets don't work in portrait mode, but if you manually choose each wallpaper, it works. |

Re: [Announce] CSSU stable release

After installing CSSU and CSSU Configuration App, I had to manually enable rotation by this command because the Configuration App doesn't seem to want to work OOTB ("out-of-the-box"): Code:
gconftool-2 -s /apps/osso/hildon-desktop/ui_can_rotate -t bool trueAdditional Information that may help. Apologies for a lengthy post, but I just thought that giving information as detailed as possible is one way of helping developers (I'm not a programmer/developer so I just consider testing/reporting bugs as my contribution to the community). Steps I did from a freshly-flashed N900 up to CSSU Configuration App: 1. Initial Setup - configured wifi and connected to initiate the first update that usually pops up when you have a freshly-flashed Maemo (it's a Maemo Security Update and Docs To Go) - Rebooted N900. - Upon reboot, opened Hildon Application Manager (HAM) to add extras-testing and extras-devel repositories. HAM will update/refresh the catalog list. - Installed: rootsh, sudser, and Faster Application Manager. - Installed advanced-power-monitor and advanced-power via command line. I had to purge and reinstall this via Terminal though as well as delete the leftover directory, due to that popular APMD and vanishing battery icon issue. - Rebooted N900 to ensure that advanced-power-monitor worked. 2. Installed CSSU: - using MicroB, went to the Wiki Page to click on CSSU Stable (installer) - HAM opens and takes you to the installation prompts for CSSU Enabler - In HAM, tapped/clicked on CSSU Enabler to initiate download/installation - N900 rebooted 3. Installed CSSU Configuration App: - Upon reboot, installed CSSU Configuration App via HAM - After installation, display does not rotate - Opened CSSU Configuration App. By default, Rotation is already enabled which is set to "X/Y" (Default) - this is when typing in the "gconftool-2..." command had to be typed in Terminal for rotation to work. - Back to CSSU Configuration App, set "Forced" rotation to apps - Reboot N900 using the "Reboot" function of CSSU Configuration App 4. Post installation of CSSU Configuration App): - Rotation of the UI works - typed in the command to enable portrait wallpapers Code:
gconftool-2 -s /apps/osso/hildon-desktop/portrait_wallpaper -t bool true5. Post setting the command for enabling portrait wallpapers): - when rotating to portrait, I'm getting a black background - Tried to follow instructions from referenced posts in my previous response (rotate to portrait and set wallpaper from there). - Result: wallpaper changes in landscape but portrait remains black Things I haven't tried yet: 1. I saw a post where one needs to type a gconftool-2 command to enable desktop editing (in portrait)...maybe that will help? This is the post. I haven't seen that command being listed in the CSSU page though. I only see a command to disable Edit mode. 2. I haven't tried preparing an image (rotating an image 90 degrees in preparation for setting it as a wallpaper while in portrait), as per advice by Merlin (few posts above). 3. Haven't tried setting an individual/single image as opposed to an image set, as per this post. No, I don't use the other options of CSSU Configuration (such as parralax, columns, etc.). Just the "Forced" rotation of apps, and the rotation of the UI itself (X/Y). Thanks. :) |
Re: [Announce] CSSU stable release
Quote:
In short, the stable version has the rotation locked by default. you can either enable it with the command you mention or by installing the status-area-orientationlock-applet. Note in the CSSU features application the x/y or z option controls the axis you would like the rotation to happen. All is working correct. Cheers. |
Re: [Announce] CSSU stable release
Quote:
I see...so now I understand that in the latest stable, the rotation feature is locked by default and is to be unlocked; that is the easy part. The only item left that I'm struggling with is the portrait wallpaper. I will give it another shot by trying the steps I haven't done yet, and will revert for feedback. Thanks for the assistance! |
Re: [Announce] CSSU stable release
Quote:
The thing is, that wallpaper image sets are applied according to their .desktop files. So if you apply any of the existing wallpapers it will get applied to desktop 1-4. With cssu though you have desktop 1-9 and the portrait wallpapers are saved to virtual desktops 10 to 18 (where #10 is portrait of the real desktop #1) so any of the standard image sets is not going to give you a portrait wallpaper. You either need to edit an image set .desktop file to get them added for the portrait "desktops" or just apply each image seperately. An example for a .desktop file can be found here: http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=393 Btw for anyone wondering, the wallpaper settings are saved to /apps/osso/hildon-desktop/views/# (in the gconf store), you can use the following command to show your current settings: Code:
gconftool-2 -R /apps/osso/hildon-desktop/views |
Re: [Announce] CSSU stable release
hey, is there an image so I can flash my n900 with the latest pure version of cssu?
|
Re: [Announce] CSSU stable release
Quote:
Indeed...when you get a black background after enabling the gconftool-2 command for portrait_wallpaper...the UI "creates" a new "view". And to set images we either need to edit a file as mentioned by merlin or, go the easy way by setting up a single image per background (so set 4 images). Thanks for the insights and explanation. I was able to appreciate what happens "underneath" the surface. :) |
