Re: [Announce] CSSU Testing thread

It was only a half-joke, as mechanism detecting type of plug connected (headphones, microphone, TV-out) is based on OHM value between mass and 3th part of jack plug. On pure headphones, 3th part is non-existent, so resistance is 0. ON microphone, resistance is ~infinite. On TV-Out - while connected to TV - it's 75 Ohm.

So, if You get TV-Out enabled popping out while plugging-in headphones, it seems like it happen when plug is only partially insert - resistance between 1st or 2nd part of jack and mass (or 1st and 2nd part, it depends on how much plug is inside) is triggered by detecting 75 Ohm resistance.

I can't tell why it's happening - it doesn't in my case. Maybe Your plug/cable is damaged, and there is very little connection between 1st and 2nd pin (left and right channel), generating ~75 Ohm resistance? It's 7-8x higher value than direct (even thin) connection, so You could not detect it while using headphones.

Maybe just reopen it, if you can change the product. Otherwise open a new one with the reference to the original report.

Sorry for the troubles.

The support for multiple MCC card partitions & file systems is nice, but it seems to mess up the Tracker, at least for me it kept on indexing 'new' media files.
I have a dedicated Easy Debian partition on the internal mass memory disc.

Excluding the mount directories (/media/mmc1, mmc1p2 in my case) with Tracker Cfg did solve the problem, but I don't think that is the idea of CSSU.

You can find fixed modest in cssu-devel repo, source code here

Changelog:

Code:

modest (3.90.7-11.1) unstable; urgency=low

  * Fixed bug https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12285.
Do not delete email from server if "Leave messages on server" is ON
    - forward-port http://gitorious.org/modest/modest/c...4bd26a33081c51
  * Manual send & receive doesn't always retrieve emails
    - https://gitorious.org/modest/modest/...39726febde76ec
  * Use async operation instead of synchronous one for the main thread
    - https://gitorious.org/modest/modest/...614190668a05f5

to enable cssu-devel repo:
using microb go to http://maemo.merlin1991.at/cssu/community-devel/ and click community-devel-fremantle.install. HAM should open, allow him to install the repo.

To upgrade modest (as root in xterm):

apt-get update
apt-get install modest

DO NOT DO apt-get upgrade unless you know what you are doing

WARNING: This is really a devel repo, use it on your own risk ;). On the other hand anyone willing to risk a reflash and/or data loss could test the new stuff there and report if any bugs are found :).

Which part of CSSU I need to apt-get, if I want to avoid reboots due to battery being out-of-power, and I don't want to charge it in any way, including carrying cables, charger, etc? They're quite heavy.

Maybe CSSU devs may waste they valuable time and publish list of such components, or even better, prepare pakage CSSU-Lite with only such parts? Or do subversion for every single user preferences? What do You think, guys? Please, pleeease?

Geez Estel, don't you get how repositories work yet? Sounds like you've installed the entire cssu repository to get the bits you want ! How's buggy modest and buggy xterm working for ya?

So far I've only been interested in cameraui2 , so I've only installed that.

I actually withdraw my question as I don't believe cssu can prevent a heavy user's 3 day reboot. Feel free to correct me by pointing to which bits actually achieve that.

Actually, I use modest and xterm daily (well, don't remember, when I closed xterm last time), and it's working great for me. If You want to have android-kid-like package's mess on Your device, it's up to You - yet, don't waste time of CSSU devs just because of that.

BTW, if You're so "smartie" that You feel comfortable with creating package mess on Your device, You should already know what cause UI slowdowns after certain time, and that it doesn't have anything to do with CSSU. Use You "high-tech powa" ;) and google for swap fragmentation - it was talked zillion of times on TMO.

Re: [Announce] CSSU Testing thread

Hello everyone,

I've just installed the latest CSSU update and I guess something went wrong. Usually the device reboots after the update and everything's fine, but this time it can't turn on.
What happens is: the usual short vibration, then the NOKIA screen appears, then the screen fades and the diode blinks orange-orange-yellow. This process repeats a few times, then there is a loadscreen with the "Device malfunction!" words.

Is it caused by the wrong update? If yes, should I reflash my N900 or what?
Thanks in advance.

I am not sure if I am on the right threat for requests but here I go anyway:
can moonlight be ported to our beloved n900? moonlight/silverlight . There are some threats from 2009/2010 requesting/discussing same but hey we are in 2012 now and thanks to the amazing developers in this community the improvements on our device after 3 or so years is beyond some peoples imagination. I believe this will be a major improvement welcomed by the majority who travel a lot and want to watch tv channels supplied for free for mobile devices over the internet by some entertainment providers.

I'm not having this exact issue, but i am having something alike and i think it should be easy to solve.

In the past, when i wanted to change my uSD i just took off the cover, slide the card out and then insert a new one or the same one, and for the moment the back cover was again on position the phone would have the "new" card mounted and accessible.

But now, after this last update, card is not remounting so i have to reboot my phone, then it mounts it.
Also i'm seeing a "boot" partittion?... ¿isn't that a little dangerous?
And some times after remount them it shows two "memory card", one is with a (2) on it's name. This is a HUGE issue because the one with the (2) sometimes is the card and sometimes is "boot".
I think is a dangerous step back, not for me but just in the case anyone not too familiar with my phone could play around with it and mess around.

¿How could i solve the not remounting issue?
I have tried the reinstall ke-recv but there is no change on the behavior.
¿Should i extract manually the file from .deb?

Thanks.

Manually extracting and "installing" ke-recv didn't solved this issue, neither does executing it manually after putting the card back.

¿Anything on this?

I'd like to propose a feature. When the user clicks on the x in the task switcher, it usually takes some time to kill the task. There could be a dark overlay over the window to signal that a click was registered and that the window is about to close. In high load scenarios it would improve the usability significantly

Re: [Announce] CSSU Testing thread

Brilliant idea, if doable. Countless of time I was repeatedly hitting this button (under high load), not knowing if my tap was unregistered, OR program is stuck and I'm waiting for hildon "kill-it?" prompt, OR it's just closing, but slowly.

Re: [Announce] CSSU Testing thread

Hello,
I'm on CSSU Testing 3.1
- After installing it, behavior of my screen changed:
It's supposed to switch off automatically after 30 seconds of idleness, but it only dims down halfway. When I touch it or pull the slider in that condition, it brightens up.
To acutally switch it off, I need to do it manually w/ power button or slider.
- I installed Theme Customizer, mainly for the purpose of making the web shortcuts on the desktop smaller, but then I decided to also enable its custom transitions, which are A LOT faster and enhance my experience with N900 by about 100%, so I'd really like to keep them.
Problem is, I want my apps to force-rotate, which I set in CSSU features config, but they don't.
I'm guessing it is because transitions.ini from Theme Customizer is used (as opposed to the system one), but on the other other hand, when calling up CSSU feature config, it says it will apply any changes in the setup to BOTH files, so forced rotation should be enabled in the theme transitions.ini as well, right?
Or, maybe there is a way to use the fast transitions in the CSSU fiel?
Thanks for any help, Ben

How can I get it to auto-switch off as usual?
Thanks, Ben

I got same thing, but from very ancient times of CSSU, when there was only one branch. I have no idea what resulted in such effect - if it's CSSU or not (yet, I don't have any theme customizers, custom transitions or any other strange things), but I actually enjoy it - during long updates or any other longer operation, I don't need to switch screen on and off all the time - i just see results in dimmed screen. And, if I really want it totally disabled, i just use slider.

It's also not true, that it doesn't turn screen off at all - it does, but only after long time (few minutes of being dimmed). Strange, but actually usable.

BTW, on my second N900, I also have CSSU installed, and I didn't noticed such behavior. I also use same transitions.ini on both devices (copied from one to another), and generally, same programs. NFC WTF.

Actually, the screen issue is not exactly runinig my life either, I worry about it only because of battery life. You being the battery expert and all  , do you think it's shortened considerably by this screen issue?
I'm not sure it's related to CSSU myself. I've had the problem posted in hardware for a week now and no response (neither in IRC). I'm just suspecting it because it started after the last CSSU update.
I wasn't implying the screen issue is related to the custom transitions though - I'm hoping these are 2 separate problems!
The problem with custom transitions, I think, is that I can't force rotate apps if I use them
What is NFC WTF?

It depends. In my case, it prevent me - in many situations - from lighting the screen to "normal" brightness and disabling it all over again (to check progress of update or whatsnot). But I've got habit of using slider (to disable screen&block input) as soon as I don't need it. Results may wary in Your case, especially, if You're used to leaving device "enabled" for autolock to trigger.

NFC WTF mean that I've no f*ckin clue what the f*ck absolutely no idea why it happens ;)
