Re: [Announce] CSSU Testing thread

I have not yet upgraded to today's update, but I have noticed an apparent bug while using the previous one.

I don't know if it's been reported, but I discovered today that if making a call on speakerphone, the dialing pad doesn't work.

Event: Called my voicemail number on speakerphone, was asked for my password followed by the pound sign, brought up the dialing pad & entered the password & pound sign, but voice mail did not receive it. It worked OK if it was taken off speakerphone, the dialing pad brought up & the password entered, then reactivated speakerphone.

Remove it before? Because operator name widget is now included in CSSU:
* operator-name-cbs-widget Initial release

Remove it, according to http://wiki.maemo.org/Community_SSU/Changelog#T-maemo4 , there is new package named operator-name-cbs-widget which does exactly the same and is already included (I guess this post: http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=679 shows screenshots), but these are just my logical guesses, as I'm using stable flavour of CSSU, not testing... By the way, maybe some packages in testing are stable enough to push them to stable? ;)

edit: don_falcone - congrats, you were faster ;)

Unfortunately, it seems the new operator name widget doesn't allow for setting arbitrary text (or none, which is what I used the original widget for)

Anyway, thanks for the new CSSU release! :)

Since update my status area disappears (crashes, I assume) and comes back minute later, but missing some applets and menu items. This happens randomly and once or twice per day, so far.

No....this is different, we cannot add custom operator name using this. Wonder why custom operator name applet was removed?

Very grateful for what you are working on that left Nokia.
I look forward to each update, I wish you success in programming as well as in personal life!
PS: This is written through an interpreter. Please sorry :)

unrelated to CSSU, and probably little we can do (unless finally somebody writes an open dialer), but anyway thanks for reporting :-)

[edit] nevertheless I can't reproduce the problem here. Might have been a problem of the particular call established.

It wasn't removed, it's a 'normal' package that replaced some maemo core functionality. Now CSSU also replaces that core functionality, so any previous operator widget either conflicts with the CSSU upgrade, or will get overridden by new CBS-widget. Reinstall your preferred operator-name-widget and you should be fine

according to prev posts here and complaints on IRC, I think we got a minor dependency problem with operator-name-cbs-widget.(http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=80526)

...is maye also related.

Summoning jonwil to please have an assisting look at it, now that it deploys via CSSU-T

[edit] from http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...95#post1132895 and http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...2&postcount=30
untested procedure to rollback to standard widget:
dpkg -r operator-name-cbs-widget

dpkg install --reinstall libsms0 libconnui-cellular connui-home-cellular or
apt-get -install --reinstall libconnui-cellular
apt-get -install --reinstall connui-home-cellular
[edit]forget that, it is incorrect and doesn't help.

Hi
How is it determined whether a app is treated as blacklisted or not? Which part of executable is taken?
Why does blacklisting
Code:

brainparty
Launched by
Code:

/opt/brainparty/brainparty
works but blacklisting
Code:

allegro
launched by
Code:

meecolay /opt/allegro/bin/allegro
doesn't work, and blacklisting
Code:

meecolay
doesn't work too?

Sorry if posting in the wrong thread :)
I'm asking about it as it's connected with the development of MeeCoLay

I'm asking about it as it's connected with the development of MeeCoLay

marmistrz, I don't have meecolay installed right now, but by looking at the package contents at http://maemo.org/packages/package_in...ay-core/0.9.1/ , /usr/bin/meecolay is just a script... so it is in fact a /bin/sh (which on my device is linked to busybox, so in fact busybox?) process... Have you tried blacklisting busybox? If not, please do it and check what happens ;)

Another case is how the resulting program is run - it is a child process created from busybox /bin/sh via "exec the_real_app_command". Even if my considerations don't have any sense or or just plain wrong, I hope they give more details for other guys here working on cssu to answer your question better and quicker.

Edit 1 (maybe will edit later if I work out what does that code do): see http://gitorious.org/community-ssu/h.../hd-comp-mgr.c , lines 3804 - 3855 (EDIT 2: SORRY I GAVE YOU WRONG LINES EARLIER)

Edit 3: here we go :D according to
Code:

gboolean hd_comp_mgr_is_blacklisted(MBWindowManager *wm, MBWindowManagerClient *c)
...
XClassHint class_hint;
...
ret = XGetClassHint (wm->xdpy, c->window->xwindow, &class_hint);
...
if (ret && class_hint.res_class)
  wname = g_strdup(class_hint.res_name);
...
if (g_strrstr(blacklist, wname) && !(c->portrait_supported || c->portrait_requested))
  blacklisted = TRUE;
...
if(c->stacked_below && (wname == NULL))
  if(hd_comp_mgr_is_blacklisted(wm, c->stacked_below))
      blacklisted = TRUE;

The window will be blacklisted when one of following conditions is made:
1. XClassHint.res_name for the created window is on the blacklisted list
2. MBWindowManagerClient->portait_supported is false (I doubt you can do anything about this one...)
3. The window stacked below (parent window as I understand) does not support portrait and this window's XClassHint.res_name is null... This option also is a no-go for you, as you rather cannot set XClassHint.res_name for a window created by external aplication being run by your script... Besides, I think this is only for child dialogs of other apps, etc.

There is also line
Code:

gboolean blacklisted = hd_comp_mgr_is_blacklisted_parse_desktop_file(wname, class_hint.res_class, c->window->pid);
somewhere between those lines - so maybe after creating a .desktop file with X-CSSU-Force-Landscape=true, the problem will be solved?

I think you should try to do something with the first option - getting res_name of XClassHint structure for windows created by different apps and blacklist them all... UNLESS you play with qt-components and e.g. create your own qt which sets this value as e.g. 'marmistrz rocks' for all windows and blacklist this value ;)

sorry for TOTAL offtopic, this is better for Development section of TMO...

Edit 4: fixed few little typos and grammar errors

Is there anyway to change the name of Operator Name Widget to "Operator" or something generic?

Furthermore, I also wanted to inform that I do not get any Cell Tower Information etc even though I have enabled all the options. Is it something to do with the Cell Broadcast Channel? I have no idea in this regard.

I also asked same question. Now I can't change the operator name, also can't see any cell tower info (might be related to channel). If many of the users are not benefited from operator-name-cbs-widget why this was included in CSSU? Any advantage/support for CSSU by including this?

Re: [Announce] CSSU Testing thread

Strange Error:

I just updated to latest CSSU using Application Manager (not FAP or xterm) and removed custom-operator-widget before (via xterm)

I'm not sure if the update was supposed to reboot after or shutting down the phone, but it did and now my N900 is dead or at least won't boot any kernel... It just turns off again after an kernel entry was selected.

My setup is U-boot (with omap1 and power50 kernel) + Bootmenu with Recovery Console and Backupmenu (if this mathers)

Any ideas of what just happened? And is there possibly a way to revive the IroN900?

Edit: Ok, after a few attempts to start omap1, power50 and internal nand it finally booted with a nice "Operating system successfully updated" messsage. *happy*

Cheers,

J4ZZ

What is the error? It's probably something with CMT in it.

Also, re-read the flashing page. When you flash eMMC, you're supposed to flash rootfs with it (as flashing eMMC wipes optified files)

My guess: one goal of CSSU is to replace closed source parts with open source. That way it can be maintained without the need of Nokia involvement.

The operator widget is one of those closed source parts which is now replaced by os.

One more thing: If you choose to use CSSU testing you are entitled to be part of the testing procedure. If you don't want to have any hassle, go for stable and wait 'til others have resolved issues like interference with other software (like custom operator name widget)

So do I have to file the bug again ?

I can not confirm that bug :) When I retrieved e-mail messages with modest with the checkbox "Leave messages on server" ticked, then all the messages were indeed successfully left on the server, not deleted. That is the way it is meant in all e-mail client programs. In case of N900 modest the messages were only deleted on the server when you decided to delete them in your N900 modest. (I wonder, why one still wants to keep a message when he/she wishes to delete it, but that's another topic :p ) I think this was a great feature and I used it successfully all the time to keep my mailboxes at servers clean from unwanted mail and passed-by spam...

Why am I saying "was" is that you "fixed" it in latest CSSU update - so no way to delete unwanted messages at the server. So please add at least an option (another tickbox) in addition to "Leave messages on server" - for example"Until deleted locally"...

Testing is testing. May potentially brick your device. Shouldn't but there's a possibility. If you're afraid, don't use it. Wait for stable. My only problem with CSSU Testing was the famous ke-recv problem in T3. But either, it's nothing when compared to the quick fix and features brought by CSSU!
