I just bought one N9 and I think there are plenty of apps. If there are 5 000 or 500 000 isn't that important, 5 000 is plenty. Whats important is the quality.
Developers doing Symbian apps will also compile for MeeGo Harmattan. App count will grow fast

bump =-(

was planning on a 16gb as i know i don't listen to much music and doubt i'll convert videos to watch on the n9, but if this ever happens and i will need more space just to run ics, then it might push me to the white n9.

I disagree. A Dalvik runtime would solve the app situation.

Having ICS is for people who only like the N9's hardware.

Both are dangerous because it will be easier to use an Android app than to create something specific for Harmattan.

We have the VAPORWARE "Alien Dalvik" you know, if this way is applicable then why the heck won't Myriad release that even though they've demoed it a year ago on an N900? There got to be a reason for this...
Waiting for a Dalvik runtime for Fremantle/Harmattan too, but I guess the compatibility won't be good. Also, isn't it great to use ICS on N9 and N900 to show that we're just NOT outta fashion?

And for what valid reason would they migrate from iOS/Android/WP7 to 2 dying platforms? Only because Trolltech released a bunch of API maps to do so?

Heard that they wont do it, as they asked Nokia for a contract and Nokia denied their request. Since MAD is only for OEM, this makes sense that their objection means we wont be seeing it any time soon.

Well, I put my self in their situation and I thought that...
if Nokia denied the implementation of their MAD, in their shoes (Myriam Group shoes) I would have started to sell Myriam Alien Dalvik implementation directly to the end-users as an external application (like a GPS navigator for example) at a street-price (for example 30$) with updates and life-support building a version for every possible OS (like WebOS, Bada, Maemo, Symbian and Meego)..

It is possible to dev in Qt on Android now...
There's already at least one e.g. of an app designed in Qt for Android, that was then quickly made for Symbian/Maemo6x.
CBF'd digging it up....

But as to your point... Trolling much there aren't we?
A commercial pond is commercial pond.
Even if it's tiny that matters little...
In fact it can be an advantage, as one has a better chance of standing out.

Many small indies (& even large co's) will be and are, quite happy juggling 3, 4, or more platforms.
It depends on the org, how they're structured, & what they want/can do with their time/resources.
There's no rule that says it's infeasible for all to do that, & they must stick with the "alive" platforms.

Anyway this is totally off-topic, start a dedicated thread if you want.

I do not believe this community should expect Alien Dalvik to ever appear. Either we do it from scratch or we associate with IcedRobot. RIM has done a translator already, they can run Android apps in PBOS2. I'm still that having lots of pre-made apps would hinder QtQuick but at least we might have access to other services, especially American ones like Amazon Kindle, Netflix and Hulu, that willworried never create apps for Harmattan because the N9 wasn't sold in America. The only hope there is that Meltemi becomes a runaway hit and Meltemi apps can be compatible with Harmattan. If Meltemi is Qt5-based we can forget about that as well.

As for Nitdroid, if all else fails, it's good to have a second option. Congratulations to those

Correct, there is threads already about IcedRobot.
I've mentioned it earlier in this thread too.
It's a preferred route to ICS, but both are fine if the community wants them.
It's just that it'd be nice to have more people focused on IcedRobot.
ATM they're all totally fixated on ICS...
IcedRobot's not an easy undertaking at all, & there's still a long way to go.
It's not even close to end-user stage yet.
So I can kinda understand why there's not wider interest.

Anyway sorry for the continued off-topic.
Lets keep off-topic stuff in their own threads.

The dualboot into Android which you have developed for the NITs (even for the N9), is ground-breaking e-yes! We all appreciate your work, and couldn't have asked for anymore! :D

But not to go against your development (I know I may sound like a newbie), but will Android run on N9 in portrait mode? I'm only saying because all the beautiful progress evidence you are proving, seem to show ICS when the phone has been rotated. Ofcourse, I know I must be asking newbie questions, sorry! :(

Still love everything about your development and NITDroid! ;D

yes and there you go, and dont get me wrong, i want thats N9 do a magical, i would like to see its happened too, it will be so cool, even the coolest thing is maemo, :)

Re: Nitdroid on Nokia n9 and donation thread.

So, will the Nokia N9 be able to run ICS smoothly? Or will it lag like the N900 running ICS? With the specifications of the N9, it should be fine though (if everything works).

Developers have managed to get ICS on Samsung Galaxy S, which has approximately the same specifications as the N9 (Galaxy S, not SII). :)

With Android on this device, it basically should be Nokia's best phone. To be honest, it probably already is. Nokia rarely release any phones with high-range specifications, other than the Nokia Lumia (which is still not high-end). So N9 is basically the phone to get if you want Nokia! :D

I think we will be seing atleast the ui smooth soon because e-yes posted on twitter a few days ago that he got rhw sgx driver/ hal working and hardware acc 3d/opengl:)

Wow! That is quite an achievement! So the UI will be dependant upon the SGX? The video demo shown by e-yes was before the drivers were working right? Thanks for the response by the way!

This definitely sounds like a promising port of ICS! Can't wait for it! e-yes is an amazing coder, coding ICS for something not even met to run another OS! Haven't heard from e-yes in a while though. Hope everything's okay on his end, and I'm not just talking about the port. :)

Sniper_swe 2012-02-16 22:06

Yes he posted the video a couple of days before the sgx and 3d/opengl was done:)
I hope so to. I think eyes is a busy man:)

My head is about to pop. Happy to see things are really moving :-) I have been using ics on my touchpad and I really like it. I hope it will be a somewhat easy way to install ics on the n9.

Now that my exams and coursework is over, I can start to be more involved in this community! :)

At the moment, the work of e-yes alone is amazing! I don't have a Nokia N9 yet, but as soon as I get one, that will be the same time as I donate! Can't wait to try this out. Appreciate the effort so much!

What's the reason for not keeping discussion centered at TMO?
You could ask mods to create sub-forums, or just have dedicated threads for different topics.
