Symbian^3 Source Code and Bootleader has been Leaked

I was searching roaming on net and found something. Symbian source codes have been leaked. Here is the LINK. will this help in porting Symbian^3 to N900 ?

The question would be more like, why the hell would you want S^3, if you have an almost-working legal Android port.

ovi maps, full offline navigation without even using a single byte of data, nokia apps, calls, msgs, etc

It seems to be the FULL SOURCECODE. so we must expect stability, access to all the drivers ( ), Real java games and apps, did you thought about it?? And also all the sisx softwares out there? It could be a second chance for Symbian 3 and all the maemo users who are still sticked to their N900 could have a chance to test another system (Just like we already do with Ubuntu, Easy debian or Win95(only for remembering purpose).

so Hell Yeah, it would Rocks!!!

Recently, I changed my N900 for an HTC HD2 (the other developer-like device xD), but if symbian^3 comes to n900, I will rechange my hd 2 for another n900 =)

Re: Symbian^3 Source Code and Bootleader has been Leaked

For those with half a clue on what the hell to do with this:

Symbian is loadable by u-boot.

BTW, Symbian is heavily modified per device. You can't just build this and run, unless this tree of the S^3 code is targeted for the N900.

Re: Symbian^3 Source Code and Bootleader has been Leaked

If all the driver source is there, whouldn't it be better if effort is made to port Maemo to say E7 than the other way around?

Well
if everyone contribute in porting
symbian to n900
it will be a great pleasure
it will be like dream coming true

but its a very lite OS. i managed to run 34 apps at same time including heavy one like opera mobile, opera mini, maps etc on 369 mhz processor and with only 128 mb of ram. and also we will get better battery life for our beloved N900 as symbian is not resource hunger nor battery hunger.

they ported Android for N900 then why not Symbian ? all source codes are leaked, everything leaked that Symbian^3 uses to run. its lighter that Android, better battery life, better performance. if someone port it then i will the first person to try it on my N900. even if its in experimental state.

Well, then we should aggregate all those well-known Indian software developers :D to fulfill this dream! ;)

Do it yourself, as it seems that no one with single working&sane brain cell is interested. Why the hell care about symbian, if You're running Linux-compatible distribution, with less and less non-FOSS components every day?

This, OTOH, seems quite reasonable. It could be fun, if achievable. Yet, as it was said, symbian is very device-oriented, and we have no clue which version leaked, if leaked at all.

I wish I can run meego CE on my E7 too but having the source does not mean it can load any custom rom ...

Re: Symbian^3 Source Code and Bootleader has been Leaked

I can't believe there are people who want to exchange Maemo for Symbian. That the other way around may now be possible is the only thing that counts as far as I'm concerned.

Re: Symbian^3 Source Code and Bootleader has been Leaked

question is why would you want symbian on an OS that runs so much better? i understand apps and what not, but am not switching OS's everytime i want to use maps, we have plenty of alternative applications, I don't understand why people keep wanting to port more and more OS's for the sake of saying I can do it, its like Nokia constantly buying more and more OS's...

It could be well ported to be fully usable. NitDroid works quite well except the call function which is missing. Not missing at all because it seems that you can call but can't hear.

So as it is the full source code which has been leaked, we could expect, full working call function, gprs, wifi, bluetooth and at least a minimum of stability to be short, A full usable OS like N8 have.

but Unfortunately, all of these are expectations and no one seems to be truly interested.

but the n8 was crap, the only good thing about it was the camera and that was hardware

Guys,
I cannot open the dailymobile thread but I am almost sure that you are talking about the source code which has been staying on my hard drive for months ... symbian 3 source was leaked very long ago - i was still a symbian user ...

thats the point
switchin' between systems can really piss you off! (know it from my desktop experience)
Much better would be something like wine or preenv - running the apps in maemo.

The source code of bootloader are inside of SymbianOS layer the folder is: os/kernelhwsvr/brbootldr

HOWEVER these files are over the internet for a very long time now (since nokia made symbian 3 open source and then closed it again).

The idea of an emulator like preenv is nice but i think it`s impossible - symbian is not even Linux

no one wants to exchange Maemo for Symbian. If someone port it to N900 then it will be a just alternative just like Nitdroid.

Re: Symbian^3 Source Code and Bootleader has been Leaked

Since we have access to boot loader, shouldn't it be theoretically possible to boot Maemo/MeeGo onto our S^3 devices the same way we boot NitDroid on our N900s?

(Yes, I know it can't happen over night, and it isn't plug and play. A LOT of hard work will need to happen, but isn't it at least possible?)

So we have resources from:
-MeeGo 1.2
-Tizen
-WebOS
-Symbian

... can these recycle some code to each other to make them better?
... can a community developed "MaeOS" be created?
if not, what can these bring to the AOSP?

... .... can we look forward to source code of QNX / BBX, lmao ?!?!

Symbian phones have a pretty secure boot chain. You'd probably need to sign some images before you can boot them on the device.

Hahahaha! I remember the old days of symbian where one have to sign softwares before install them to the phone. Or simply hack the firmware with HelloOX, x-Plore and bla bla bla...
I'm missing those experiences!!!!! :D

The boot images aren't signed the same way as sisx apps. While you can easily get a "developer certificate" for HelloOX, I don't think you can easily get a certificate to sign an image you feed to NOLO.

http://n70linux.wordpress.com/ - some dude trying to load code onto a Nokia phone. Needs a specific hack for code execution. Nasty hacky stuff, in addition, Maemo/MeeGo/Mer would run like *** on anything but the highest specced S^3 phones such as the N8 and E7, because they have cheap ARMv6 processors and non-flagship devices have a painfully low amount of RAM.
