yes

EDIT: i havent gotten mine to be usable yet. i can send keys, but only a few at a time, and no arrows which is the single most important feature for me. ive been trying to test the keyboard on a big computer, but its been difficult, so i suspect it is my keyboard giving me trouble {spider ultra mini btkb}

Please, do it, my main reason to use Harmattan open mode would be to run (Easy) Debian.

Even using the N9 with a Bluetooth keyboard (or BlueMaemo running on Nokia N810/N900 to behave like one).

TO QOLE:

Totally agree i install the open kernel thinking on easy debian. I dont mind if it is not easy. but running linux distros in a chroot or native is my main reason to buy a N9.

For me EASY DEBIAN is the best application ever on the N900 and i am even willing to pay for it, if you port it for the N9.

Re: Nokia & AEGIS open-mode

One option is just install a debian chroot using debootstrap.
I did that way, all debian apps are running fine (just remember to "mount -o bind" /dev, /dev/pts and /proc).

Option to what ? Without Harmattan open mode ?

He's apparently had it working in open-mode for some time now:
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...84#post1153384
But so far he has not clarified how exactly....

Wow, Ok, not only is there BT keyboard support available for the N9, but elemental got it published in the Ovi store, here!

I'll try to package up a .deb file for the qchroot scripts in the next while. You'll have to have a hardware keyboard and open mode, so I'll have to think of a new name for this. Probably just "qchroot" or something.

Impresive how well works this application, it paired the N9 like just in one second with my BT keywoad and works perfect out of the box. I suppose i am used to the the N900 where i tried for days, to paired with it and nothing.

- Thanks a lot for the qchroot scripts, it will be very much appreciate for all N9 users in the world for sure.

So, with Aegis gone, I am thinking of trying to install Debian Lenny sudo and its libpam dependencies on my n950. Is this a bad idea? What will this break?

I did this "fake" solution before and it could probably be made better.. it doesn't work in all circumstances.

Code:

#!/bin/sh

case "$*" in
        * )
        read -p "Password: " -s PASSWORD
        echo $PASSWORD | devel-su -c "$*"
;;

one thing that keeps me apart from sleep at nights, is what will happen with the people who has flashed the open kernel when PR 1.2 arrives?? we will be able to update it normally from the N9 in the section of actualizations, or we will have to reflash the whole N9 again?

and most important the open kernel is designed for PR 1.1...it will work with PR 1.2??

Reason I am waiting for a couple months. See if 1.2 changes open mode/bricks.

javispedro has put in a request for the kernel source, we should have an open pr1.2 kernel soon. I suspect we'll need to reflash however. :(

I'm running PR1.1 open mode in my N950.
Is it possible to flash PR1.2 with the open mode kernel (when it gets available) in just one step?

Btw, any news about open mode kernel for PR1.2?

I found an N9 downloader perl script here:

Not completely sure if it is related to flashing the open-mode kernel, but I was trying to set the lock-code - my N9 is flashed with open-mode kernel - and I just get an error 'wrong lock code' when trying to set a lock code (no lock code is set previously)
I started a question for this in this thread, so if anyine knows, please answer :)

So how do you know you're in open mode? The only thing I can tell is that the message that nokia sends originally is blocked, beyond that nothing seems out of place or new...

Edit: I didn't see any big scary warning yet and I've rebooted a couple of times.

in terminal, issue command "accli -I" without qoutes
It will spit out "Current mode: Open"

It threw out current mode: normal... so how do I flash it to open mode?

I followed the directions in jaylst's post and the second command was ran, but it opened the flasher window, then closed it automatically...

Sounds like you are not runnning from a command line window.
If you are not that sure on how to do this, I HIGHLY recommend that you DONT flash this!

I am using a command line window... the problem is it just opens the second command line window then automatically shuts it. I am willing to mess up my phone to figure this out, because I want open mode... screw aegis.

The instructions in OP are actually very precise, but I have tried to summarize it a bit here (NO guaranties, if you mess up, this wll with HIGH propability BRICK your phone)

Assuming you have download original firmware 20.2011.40-4 (using Navifirm for example) and named it firmware.bin
Assuming also you have download openmode kernel and renamed it openkernel
Assuming you have downloaded Nokia flasher v3.12.1

Put all the files in SAME directory

1) turn off your N9
2) unplug your N9 from the usb
3)from command line run: flasher -F firmware.bin -f
4)plug in your phone via usb
when one command finishes {it will say 'Success'},
5) run: flasher -F firmware.bin -k openkernel --flash-only=kernel -f -R

If you're using Windows Vista or 7 with UAC on, you need to open an elevated command prompt (right-click Command Prompt in the Start menu and select Run as administrator) in order to be able to run Flasher.

Hello MeeGo gans, first-time poster here :D
Well, I've been following the progress on Aegis for some time now. I first tried the opensh solution but, after several reboots, I had run tired of not having a phone that can boot by itself, so I'm now running the stock firmware.
My question is, is there not a way to replace the normal kernel with the open one through the flasher? Because, as things stand, I'd rather retype all my passwords than lose the warranty :confused: (my N9 is a gift :) ).
Finally, I'd like to thank every developer here and elsewhere for supporting a phone and a community that Nokia's current management would rather have not existed. You're the best, guys, keep it up! :)

Got a confirmation email from Nokia, that DVD with pr1.2 sources will be shipped :)

Quote:

Unfortunately for now, PR 1.2 related sources are available only on DVD. We can ship the DVD at no cost to you. For this, I would need your full address details. Please note that Nokia will not store your personal data in any register or use it for any other purpose than delivering the code to you.
