UPDATE!

I have just built gtk 2.16.6 for maemo and claws-mail 3.9.0cvs50 with most of plugins.

Unpack in /opt and....try it!
You can also use the customized icon pack of the previous version.

In /opt/claws/themes/gtk there are a few themes to customize the colors.... but ....We need a better result and some help would be really appreciated!!

Here attached you can find claws-mail 3.7.10 with bigger icons, the possibility too choose the gtk theme only for this app (to avoid the black background) a lot of extral plugins (almost all)
and...HTML WEBKIT VIEWER! :D

And... All builded directly inside an N900 to have the best optimization and speed!

To install, unpack the tar in /opt
and

cp /opt/claws/claws-mail.desktop /usr/share/applications/hildon/
cp -r /opt/claws/share/icons/hicolor /usr/share/icons/

To use the BigIcon theme, unpack the BigPix_std... in some folder, then, from the configuration menu of claws add new theme, select previous folder and apply.
Now you have usable and visible interface with big buttons.


To use in fullscreen mode:


aptitude install xbindkeys wmctrl

echo '"wmctrl -r :ACTIVE: -b toggle,fullscreen"' > /home/user/.xbindkeysrc
echo 'shift + KP_Enter' >> /home/user/.xbindkeysrc
echo "xbindkeys &" >> /home/user/.profile
chown user:user /home/user/.xbindkeysrc
chown user:user /home/user/.profile

and run as user (or reboot):
xbindkeys &


Now, pressing SHIFT + RETURN you can activate fullscreen for any application.

I followed the above instructions, bu the app fails to load, simply quits before anything appears. Any ideas?

try starting it from the command line, then apt-cache search for any missing libraries

i had to get libenchant-dev, libgnutls26, libetpan13 and something gpg related - works great here

Sorry for my basic knowledge, but how do you run the apt-cache? I tried apt-cache search claws-mail as root, but it did nothing.

There is a claws-mail 3.7.3 package in extras-devel.
It's dependencies are as follows:That should be some hint for the 3.7.10 tar.

Nice, but you really should package it (the packaging stuff from earlier versions should still work) and put it in extras (but beware of bug 7707, ie manual optification likely required). More importantly, you must publish the corresponding sources to comply with the software's licence (GPLv3).

Updated first post with links to sources.

Concerning the requirements, i suggest to run:
ldd /opt/claws/bin/claws-mail.bin

and for the plugins:

ldd /opt/claws/lib/claws-mail/plugins/*PLUGIN_NAME*.so

to check if you have all the required libs. (there are a lot of required libs to make them work!:eek:)

For Fancy webkit html viewer, don't forget to install libsoup-2.26 and libwebkit-1.0...

Do not open the application in x-terminal as root typing claws-mail and throw-me-segmentation fault

Run it from menu icon.

I think there is an error in claws-mail.desktop. I couldn't run it, until I didn't edit the line
to
(deleted %u at the end)

Here is shortcut icon, if someone needs it. Just place it in /usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/hildon/.

Thanks for the good work so far, since a good emailclient really is needed :)

Just a question:
Is the status of the package to be considered as alpha, beta or stable?
Are there any problems to watch out for if i install it? (dependencies?)

In my opinion, this build of claws is very stable.
But, you know, one user is not a community, so i will really appreciate any feedback from anyone that would write here his opinion.

Anyway, i think that you don't need to be brave to try it! :)
....the maximum trouble that you will find, will be to match all the requirements of the plugins. ;)

I have problems extracting the tarball:

I downloadad the tarball three times, always with the same result.

I cannot untar it on my host machine too.

Just verified... you are right the file downloaded from filedropper has been converted to the tar format (gunzipped).

Really strange! I tried to upload it again but filedropper trasformed also the new one in tar format while keeping the old extension.

You can check the size:
the gzipped one should be abot 7 MB.
The tar one is about 20 MB.

Sorry, i have to find another upload service.

Until that, if you still can't open it, you should use mc or:

tar xf claws_3.7.10_plus_extra_plugins_Xes_03.tar.gz

The problem is that they're fake gz files. Remove the .gz extension (so they're only tar files) and it'll extract fine :)

YES...BUT...they became fake tar.gz only after the download.... I don't know what the #### filedropper is doing to that files... You can try. Upload one tar.gz and you will obtain a tar.

Concerning mirroring, feel free to public some new link i will insert them in the first post.

Is it possible to submit your source package to autobuilder? Or are there any manual procedures / patches needed?

I'm hoping to test a newer claws release, that hopefully has no issues displaying currently existing IMAP folders for multiple mail accounts (rather than retrieving updated folder trees, but not updating the folder view for 2 out of 5 accounts). And with stability - right now its flaky like a WinCE PDA.

(The claws Maemo page doesn't mention which patches apply.)

Ok, i finally choose to extract your package into /opt and do some testing.

FFS, for the reason of f*** i'm still unable to open a mailaccount's folder list by clicking on the small arrow on the left side, as already observed with 3.7.3. That happens with 2 accounts; their login settings are correct:

If i move a message, all the folders of both accounts are there (all mailaccounts are expanded in the "move / Select folder" view). But trying to expand them in the main view just enters the accounts and shows nothing.

"Subscriptions -> Subscribe..." / "Check for new folders" / "Rebuild folder tree" does not alter this behavior.

EDIT2: Even deleting from /home/user/.claws-mail/imapcache/ doesn't change it.

EDIT3: I can even select incoming, unread messages with "Next" button on (bottom-right), and it enters the INBOX folder of a non-expandable mail account, then shows the message.

EDIT4: THIS! This action (displaying a new, unread email with "Next") expands the mailaccount and shows all it's folders in the main view? WTF?

EDIT5: Totally cool. After one of those really-often-happening segfaults. Claws lost the expanded view. !#@%

At this time i'm using it to have a portable archive of my REALLY FAT gmail account... with all the folders synced in my N900

Concerning build and patches, there are no patches to apply to build it... but i'm sorry, but i'm not familiar with the autobuilder tool so i choosed the old "quick and dirty" way.
To build it you need only one thing: a lot of time to find all the required libs.
The theme is the only thing i have tweaked a little bit to make it more usable in the N900 screen.

No no it's working, but unstable to about the same degree as the version (3.7.3) already in devel-reps (segfaults, GTK+ assertions etc.). So at least for me, i see no changes for now other than more plugins included. Thanks for your build!

Thanks. Actually i'm unable to extract neccessary GTK libs as xarchiver *****es about some files being not found in the archive, and being unable to extract. Will test later on a desktop; right now i'm testing pomegranate gluehwein@christmas market.

Hi all. Just asking, how do I right click the IMAP root folder so I can get to the properties. I need to activate offline synchronization of my mail.
Something like this (last post)

Tried playing with xbindkeys and xdotool to map control + tap for a right click but it doesn't seem to do anything. The phone does recognize the click because it vibrated when done from xterm.

A long klick with the stylus (about 2 seconds) opens the menu- at least this works for me...
