n900 red line over sim and no imei and some error HELP!
 

hi, i have a n900 device that is sim locked to some italy operator
( i think it is italy because of this number behind the battery 0574385 ) , i dont know which operator.
my firmware version is 3.2010.02-8 pr 1.1.1
i try updating with flasher and the process completed succsessfuly but
when i turned on the device it started booting and never end, the five dots just kept on roling forever.
i tried several times, same thing happens.
only when i flash back on 3.2010.02-8 pr 1.1.1 the device boots up fine.
i tried flashing the eMMC image but again the same happens.
and when i go to settings and tap at the top i get this option: enter code for unlocking sim card

i have two questions:

1. is it possible to update my device to pr 1.3 and how?
2. is there a way to unlock my n900 to be possible to use other sim cards like in serbia (telenor) or is there any way to get that code for unlocking?

I have an unlocked n900 and I still have the option to enter unlock code. Try updating via app manager and it should give you the PR 1.3 update.

Are you sure it's SIM locked? There's been no knowledge of any SIM-locked N900 phones being sold.

P.S.: That button there appears even in unlocked phones.

i have N900,and working perfectly but it is still give me option to unlock the operator lock. i dont know why, and who cares when every thing is fine. as far as i think operator lock in setting does not mean anything.

about your problem i also had some problem like you when i reflashed it. what i did i install uk image on my Indian n900 that made my sim not working. so i went back to India ver. and everything is fine now so may be your firmware is wrong ( i may be wrong) i tried global firmware also but same problem was there.

i am sure that my phone is sim locked because it dont accept any sim cards from my state ( serbia ).
i try flashing with: global versions, italy versions ( from navifirm ), pr 1.2, pr 1.3, 21.2011.38-1 and when i power on it boots endless.
i have now installed:
EMMC_By.MiDO.FaYad.8.giga.bin and
RX-51_2009SE_3.2010.02-8_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin ( pr 1.1.1 thats the only version working, it works as long it is pr 1.1.1 no matew for what region)
i want to update to pr 1.3
and is there any way to unlock free the sim ?

Are you sure you don't need to register your device's IMEI with your carrier?
Some carriers in certain countries need that for some reason (e.g. all carriers in Japan)

i am sure because i asked the nearest Telenor shop and service, they said that n900 need to be decoded - price 35 euros,
and i wont pay until i update to pr 1.3.

it is always that simbol no mater what sim card is in it.

i also tried flashing pr1.1.1 and after that i flashed kernel and roofs from pr 1.3
the phone booted up whit some errors during the boot and after,
and i checked about product option and for version i got unknown and os: unknown.
so i flashed back to pr 1.1.1 because i want full working pr 1.3 or pr 1.4
( 21.2011.38-1 ) please help me install pr 1.3 or pr 1.4

First that symbol does not mean that the sim is locked it means there is no sim installed. There is no way the phone is locked. It is one of 2 problems
1 the sim is no good
2 the contacts on the n900 are flattened. you can try putting a piece of paper behind the sim or try to raise the little prongs. Try the paper first.

btw mido's image is pr1.3

edit if you cant get anything else to install but 1.1 upgrade the old fashion way ...through the application manager

as i have said earlier i had same problem. and yes i had same red line on sim status. i also dont think this is something related to the "SIM lock"

i would recommend you to download pr1.3 of different countries and try to flash your n900 with them on by one

i tried 10 different sim cards, papers and stuf but no success.
and when i tupe *#06# it wont show the imei.
and when i download firmware from navi firm i download 4 files,
i flash just one what to do with the other 3?
and when i update over the air the fhone never boots up, then i flash pr 1.1.1 again ant it boots up but the sim is not working.

Here may be solution for you ..

it is what creating problem i think (your are guessing it is Italy)

as i mentioned before that i also had same problem when i installed global firmware and i have tried US also in both firmware i got same problem like you(the sim was locked or blocked) but in my case device booted-up

So what i think that you are guessing that it is italy,i think you need right firmware for your device only, i mean each country has different .bin files. You must be using wrong .bin file or firmware. If you don’t know what country your n900 is belong to, you should download all countries firmware and flash with each firmware and try if they work.

Also you are saying that "and when i type *#06# it won’t show the imei." then how did you get firmware files i mean when you download firmware from http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/nokia_N900.php you need to give IMEI.

Also if you tell us the name of firmware you are using we can tell you what country's firmware you are using

i get the imei from behind the battery, it is printed on the device.
now i know that it is italy phone because of the number 0574385, in navifirm the italy firmware is marked with that number.

i used only

RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin

but global firmware did not work for me either.

so i installed indian (as i have an indian mobile)

RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2.004_PR_COMBINED_004_ARM.bin

and it works fine for me .

for your question... i dont know what are those files. and what to do with them.

i still suggest you to flash with each country's ARM.bin files if any of them works for you

3.2010.2.8 these four boot up but i have red line on sim

10.2010.19-1
20.2010.36.2
21.2011.38-1 these 3 wont boot up.

how did you know that it is indian ?
and what is your code below the imei?

because i bought it from india.( i was talking about my mobile)

firstly i don't promise that if you follow or do what i will say is 100% work for you.

i am only trying to say that when i bought my mobile i wanted to flash it. so tried a globle firmware but that gave me a red line on my sim card. so i think that i should try usa firmware(i know it is childish to flash an indian mobile with a usa firmware ) but i wanted my mobile look like as usa(because indian firmware is slightly different from others i.e it does not have folder in menu called "More" etc.)



Thus in both firmware (including global) i got same problem like you( a red line on sim card)


so it was my story.



Now what i think that if your mobile is not recognizing the firmware you are flashing with (even italy's firmware) it MAY work with other country's firmware(again this is not promise for you) but as a last resort before taking any action i think it worth a try.

so as long as you have an indian firmware you are good with sim no mather if it is pr 1.3 or pr 1.1 and did your phone showed imei when dial *#06# ?

Sounds like hardware failure of cellular modem. I doubt that "specialists" who offered You to get rid of simlock would achieve anything. I'm quite sure, that after messing some things up, they would say "hardware damage".

I have the same problem.
I bought a n900 from mercadolibre (ebay-like) seller. It just pick one operator, movistar was blocked. I guess is was concerning about soft ware or something like that. Ive flashed and reflashed and couldn't get anything.

The phone really was blocked by movistar operator because of it was reported as stolen.

Now im reading this topic i dont know if flashing with indian or american fw can be unlocked or get something.

This means that your phone is NOT communicating with the cell modem.

Flash PR1.3, but at the end of the flash command, add --flash-only=nolo. This will force update NOLO, allowing you to boot PR1.2 and later.

Before doing that, you want to do "dmesg | grep ssi" and post the logs here.

NOTE: ALL NOKIA PHONES ASK YOU TO CHANGE THE SIM IF IT'S LOCKED, NOT QUIETLY REJECT IT.
NOTE 2: Are you sure you're not getting "SIM registration failed" error?

my n900 runs only pr 1.1.1 and pr versions before that.
how do you mean to flash pr 1.3 do you meant like this:
1. flash pr 1.3 while pr 1.1.1 is allredy flashed and working.
2. and then flash only nolo from pr 1.3 image ???

and what should i do with sim problem any advice what should i do ?

(1) Use X-Terminal
(2) flasher -f -F pr1.3.rootfs.bin --flash-only=nolo
then
use backupmenu to restore a PR1.3 rootfs.

this problem is a software problem not hardware problem so u have to flash u mobile with the last flasher update when u don it restart your mobile .... go to phone click *#06# ime should be seeen if not go to app manager and update maemo5 when finish make a reboot and your sim and ime number should be back..... i prefer installing meddil east flashar

i tried to update via app menager - update finished sucseseful but when the phone restarts it boots forever ( 5 - 24 hours ) and it dont boot up.
then when i flash it back to pr 1.1.1. ( 3.2010.02-8 ) or erlier firmware version it boots normaly but no sim card and no imei.

i tryed meddil east fiasco image but no sim and imei.

i would really be grateful if someone would help me solve this problem.

as a last resort, one more thing comes in my mind , that there is an application called backup menu.which backup whole system backup (including os i.e rootfs , optfs) so thus i think you can ask someones backup files (of your country) and try to restore your device from his files using backup menu. again this is just an idea comes in my mind, it is not guarrantee if that could change the the world!!

you can ask in this forum too, but there is one problem! . That rootfs,optfs files contiants Private info also ,i.e contact no. Emails passwords etc.

So you have to ask someone's backup files without their personal info. For that one have to delete all his personal stuff and create backup for you.hope you find helpful people in your country

i installed it frm app manager and i did not get any warning. I am using backup menu and does no harmfull as yet to my device!!
