Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9

OK, so what has happened:

When you did some tweaks you modified some "protected" applications or files on the device, so that their checksum changed. Normally I think N9QuickTweak correctly recalculates the checksums so that device works normally (this is done via refhash.pl script)

When the device boots and the cecksums are incorrect it goes to "Malf mode" where it refuses to boot and shows this screen.

Additionally, you let the device run dry of battery which further complicates things as now there is not enough charge to boot it up.

The solution to both problems is to use flasher, fist to charge the device enough for booting, and then boot it to rescue mode to remove the Malf.

Hi JuiceMe, I don't suppose you have a solution to my problem?

Yes, the solutions to your problem exist here on the forum :D

1. You need to charge up your phone enough for it to boot. There are many threads about that, for example http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=87709

2. You need to fix the problem that was there in the first place. For that many solutions exist, but it depends on what you want to do how to proceed. You have backups; that is good because always there is the possibility of breaking something.
  • You can clean flash the device, and restore your backups. This might be easiest if you do not want to go to open mode.
  • You can install open mode kernel and remove the /var/malf file, which allows you to continue much like before, you do not need to restore anything. (you will need to recreate your accounts, however, and you will have the open mode warning on boot but otherwice it's pretty good)

Hey, thanks for helping me. My question is this, I'll do a clean flash, but I want to return the phone to close mode and return it to its original firmware, which has a lower number, so what are my options then? Thanks.

I am trying to get a western firmware w/ an english base lang. and the missing apps like Skype...etc I have been using a Phoenix/Nokia flasher and have received many flashing errors like firmware older than installed or "flashing failed in recovery" I prefer the Phoenix due to its simplicity, Is the win flasher able to overcome what appears to be a firmware lock inserted from the newer 1.3 firmware?

Has anyone successfully found a workaround to re-flash a Chinese N9 running 1.3 already to a western firmware.
firmwares attempted Singapore,central Europe,Australia,new Zealand,ROW,northern Europe,Ireland.
currently running 059J250, sim tray059M7K1

thanks in advance...

would a nokia authorized service center be able to reflash out of a chinese pr1.3? I wonder if they have the same phoenix flashing capabilities? they quoted me $54. with no promise of results.

If you want to restore your phone to its factory state you can just flash any image that is of the same or higher legacy PR as your current image with the following command:

Code:

flasher -f -F rootfs.bin -F emmc.bin --erase-user-data=secure -R

Try doing a flash with a 005 PR legacy image and report the outcome; you might need to flash the cmt of the current 003 image so ensure you have images of your current firmware on hand too

I tried again the 059J246 singapore and got about 80pct. before the flashing error msg. then I got the "You have modified the device software...." then "device not working properly" also tried059J267 and 059J245. no luck.

I tried flashing the CMT and got "no such file found "msg
Is it not the inside main .bin file?
thanks for the help
