Re: N800 Geocaching tested with Navicore and maemo mapper

Thanks for the write up on geocaching.

I have never geocached before, but now that I have a GPS, I would like to start.

I have read a bit on geocaching from the geocaching.com website, so I think I understand the basics.

What I am wondering, is how to geocache with the N800. Is it just a case of loading the caches into the poi.db?

Any help/guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks

I used Navicore to street guide me to the closest road spot, then used Maemo Mapper to drill down to the exact coordinates. I just entered them in the "go to" menu option.

I suggest you either bring mobile broadband with you or pre-download the maps for the area with maemo mapper.

I subscribed to geocaching and get the .loc files, use poiloader to add to the db. all the caches nearby show up as a poi. I then go to each cache web page and save the pages. Then I can plot a course from one cache to another before I leave the house. If I'm lucky enough to get wifi at the cache, I can log it directly to my account, but If not the N800 is great for taking notes.

Good luck and have fun
