That'd be appreciated. I'll probably get the cyan (maybe I'll look
for a white ;-)) as, like you, the thought of a lesser spotted 64GB cyan
appeals to the geek in me for whom an N9 isn't already niche enough ;-)

I'll have to get past the next couple of weeks at work, but then I'll have

Hey guys, I'm trying to change to cyan from black but the screen won't just come off. I'm pressing hard and have even dent the side but no avail. I think any harder I'll end up breaking something. I'm pressing on the white thing that's visible as suggested in the video but it's not working for me, any suggestion? Thanks.

EDIT: By the way, has anyone replaced the USB flap? If so can you please advise how it can be taken off without breaking it that is ;)

it was pretty easy to replace it, however i did stripped off one of the screw's head, but managed to take it out using surgery clippers (me being a doctor)

i tried both colors, first changed my black 16 gb to cyan, went for some days, then back to black for some days and then finally white, which I will keep, because it looks awesome!!

i got pretty good at it, and finally mastered the technique, i can disassembly and reassembly in less than 20 minutes. It shouldnt be hard, you just need the right tools, so you dont strip the screws. The russian video is well explained, the tricky part is unclipping the screen. Everything else was just plain easy.

Everything is working fine, antennas, camera, flash, jack and buttons, im glad i changed my case, because the black one was wearing off. If you have any specific question go ahead

Hi few questions if you don't mind :)

1. Was it hard to take the screen off the first time? I just couldn't take mine off so gave up :(
2. Can you advise how to safely remove the USB flap coz its not shown in the videos I've seen so far?

Thanks..

The left notch (screen facing up) was a little hard to pop open first time. Just make sure your screwdriver/whatever is far in enough to touch the white bit and shove up really hard. It may help to pop the other side out first and loosen up the screen a bit by running a flat plastic thing in between the screen (top edge) and chassis.

http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...42&postcount=3 just pull it hard with it 2/3 open - it won't break.

Thanks for the info... btw, how would I pop the other side of the screen? Also, regarding flap you mean open around 45 degree and pull away in the same 45 degree angle? How about putting a new one, push in in the same direction? Thanks again...

Well, the right edge is easy because you can put a screwdriver in and twist it to get the leverage. The left edge doesn't have the bottom interior surface, so you end up denting the polycarbonate if you push it.
Flap - yes - pull and push at a ~60 deg angle. It's just a bit of plastic that clips onto a metal rod internally - there's nothing to break unless you twist it or do something wacky with it.

If I should manage to damage my N9 during the replacement from black to cyan, my replacement will be exactly a White 808 PV. (And meanwhile I would have to go with that shitty Lumia 800 that's in my drawer...)

Doing a replacement to a white case and I think I accidently popped off the front camera module from the flex cable, that's fine I can live without front facing camera, however my biggest issue is that I am getting no celluar antenna reception at all. Everything seems to be connected fine but my sim is not working at all...anyone have any thoughts?

Re: Anyone replaced the N9 chassis/case?

I had a crack right at the front corner by the sim tray and the crack got worse to the point of my sim card popping out so I was using electrical tape to hold it in. I ordered a replacement case (black) from one of the ebay vendors mentioned here and I received it yesterday.

Swapping it out was much easier than I thought. One thing I noticed was that my black case seemed to become much more glossy over time. The new case felt like it had texture and I remember this was how my phone use to feel.

Anyway thanks for all the links which helped me gain confidence to attempt such a thing.

Has anyone bought a housing from forceviewer_uk? They sell their housings with tools to do the swap and are cheaper than digital_supermarkets & headlaneltd. Also below is a disassemble video in english:

I literally just purchased a cyan one from them. I emailed them the other day to ask if it was 100% genuine from Nokia and they told me it was.

Plus i looked at the other N9 cases they have and they only have magenta and black, so they definitely look legit

They also provide the tools you need to do the job, so it's a good deal

Not sure, but i'm only interested in the housing anyway, my sim tray + usb cover are in good condition

Sort of offtopic, but my N9 makes quite annoying squeak sound if I apply modest force (i.e. hold it) to the left side of the device (lower half). Is this normal, or my N9 has some manufacturing defect?

A lot of people have this problem. The housing can come loose over time so i believe.

I have 2 N9's, one of them has this issue, the other doesn't.

Once I replace my housing i'll see if the issue persists

Re: Anyone replaced the N9 chassis/case?

Thanks for the info. I don't think it's age related as my N9 is less than 1 month old. Anyway, it's not that big a deal, just doesn't feel so premium (but then it was cheap anyway so I guess it's ok).

So I just received my new cyan housing in the mail - certainly looks like the real thing! (this was confirmed by the seller)

Only difference is the chinese markings on the bottom, rather than the CE logo

Will (try to) switch the housings over tonight!

Okay, so i got the case and all seemed well at first

But then i saw some slight physical damage near the usb door, which, made me think "i should return it", but i let it go

Then I tried to switch out everything in to the new housing, to discover that one of the screw sockets had a broken screw in it, preventing me from being able to put a screw in that particular socket. But that too, i thought i would let pass

BUT THEN, i turned it on, everything seemed okay, until i went to use the flash on the camera - that didn't work. So, that was the last straw

I've had to switch everything back to my original housing. I think i'll just stick with my original one and get a refund

Warning though - make sure the torx screwdrivers you get are magnetised. The ones they sent me weren't, and it is actually impossible to screw back in the 2 screws in the usb/sim tray bit. Luckily i had a magnetic torx from a few years back that did the trick

Top-right screw, next to the down volume button? I stripped that one when I did the change myself - had to take a dremel to it and then use a flathead screwdriver.

Maybe when I get it I should just return it and wait to get it from a more expensive seller.

seems like that screw is the problematic one. I stripped mine too. But mine is partially out already. Will try to use a pliers to get it out tonight.

So now i am short of one screw. Is it ok to not screw that one or do I need to get a replacement screw?

I've got two screws not back in my n9 at the moment due to stripping them on the way out - seems fine. I put another screw back in the "problem" spot, as it's fairly central, but left some other ones out where there were other screws nearby. I left the metal retainer strip out entirely for a week too and that didn't seem to matter or affect reception either. Just think - your phone will be a gram lighter than other N9s as well as being a different colour!

Hey Muzimak,

I ordered mine from here. I have a white version but I dropped it and bought this as a replacement chassis.

Use Paypal for payment and request the international tracking number from the seller once the item is shipped. Wait about a week then track the package through ems.sapo.co.za using the international tracking number.

Once you see its has cleared Customs call SAPO/JHB International Mail Centre on 0860 011 1502. Tell them you want the local tracking number for your package. They will ask you for the international tracking number and then will provide you with the local tracking number.

Use parceltrack.co.za to track the package with the local tracking number until it reaches your local post office. Go pick it up and start smiling ;)

I've uploaded some pics in my post here and here.

PS: There are duties/tax that you have to pay as well. Mine came to about 32 bucks.

You will most likely be provided with the screwdrivers, however they won't have magnetic tips - you need a torx screwdriver with a magnetic tip otherwise you are going to find it impossible to get a couple of the screws back in

It depends on the Rand/Dollar exchange rate at the time of purchase. With the Paypal currency conversion fee it came to R396.58. The shipping was free. I chose that particular seller as he has over 10,000 sales with over 99% positive rating. You might need to ask him if he can source a white simtray and usb door for you though as the item is just for the white chassis.

Customs did charge me about R30-R40, I cant quite remember exactly how much. Its definitely not more than R80. I haven't swapped the chassis as yet as the damage to my current chassis is not really that bad. An excellent video to disassemble and re-assemble can be found here.

This particular seller does include small star, T4 torx and T5 torx screwdrivers as well as a triangular prying tool to remove the screen. I've included a pic of them below. The T4 torx screwdriver is magnetised but I think the problem screws at the usb/simtray covers that Dared is talking about are T5.

Offtopic: If you're on Vodacom check out this link to usb tether your phone with WIndows 7. Speed using joikuspots built in hotspot is pathetic.

hahaha I am wondering if I can tell the difference in weight!

But anyway I have done the change of my N9 64GB to Cyan. Through this process, i stripped one of the screw so I have one less screw in my phone. I accidentally spoilt the new usb door. But this is my first attempt and I am sure I will do lots better in my second attempt. I will try to change to a white one in the future (maybe in 6 months time)

Anyway the whole process is rather simple. The most difficult part is the unscrewing of the screws. They are all so tight that it feels that Nokia has welded them in since the screws have black spots around them. After the screws are out, i finish the rest in like 10mins.

So, an advice for anyone trying it the first time, get a good screwdriver and unscrew the screws slowly and steadily. Don't rush, unless if you want to strip the screw.

btw, can anyone recommend a seller that has good full white housing with USB cover and SIM tray? The seller (freetrade21) that sells me mine seems to have removed his N9 housings from eBay

nope you need to buy the glass/LCD separately.
