Re: Anyone replaced the N9 chassis/case?

i get a "pop" almost everytime before the phone plays a sound. Even when i moved form Silent to Beep, i get a pop. I don't remember having this with my original black chassis.

I will open up the phone and re-attach the parts again... maybe I will move the speaker from my black housing over to the cyan housing...

I wouldn't be surprised if maybe your chassis isn't a genuine one. I'm sure there are a lot of good quality fakes circulating on ebay

But anyway I have done the change of my N9 64GB to Cyan. Through this process, i stripped one of the screw so I have one less screw in my phone. I accidentally spoilt the new usb door. But this is my first attempt and I am sure I will do lots better in my second attempt. I will try to change to a white one in the future (maybe in 6 months time)

Anyway the whole process is rather simple. The most difficult part is the unscrewing of the screws. They are all so tight that it feels that Nokia has welded them in since the screws have black spots around them. After the screws are out, i finish the rest in like 10mins.

So, an advice for anyone trying it the first time, get a good screwdriver and unscrew the screws slowly and steadily. Don't rush, unless if you want to strip the screw.

btw, can anyone recommend a seller that has good full white housing with USB cover and SIM tray? The seller (freetrade21) that sells me mine seems to have removed his N9 housings from eBay

I bought my white housing from him and about 5 hours later ebay sent me a message to say they removed the listing!!!!

the seller is still going to send me it! but worried it wont be real nokia housing!

don't plan to fit straight away anyway! will probably end up selling it!

Seriously where can we buy real authentic cases from the Nokia factory where N9s were built? After getting a fake one off of eBay, I'm really hesitant to purchase another one. . .

id be happy if some black metal bodies were made

Re: Anyone replaced the N9 chassis/case?

Actually I am already prepared to get fake cases. But as long as they are well made, i don't care. I can already switch them in 5-10mins.

ANyway i switched back to my black original case and the popping sound is gone. So this is due to the non-genuine case.

But like other people in this thread, I am curious where can really get original housings?

reminds me of my E7 case.. The black colour chips off after some time showing the whitish underlying... not too pretty.

There's a seller on ebay called Headlane that offers the genuine one... however they are expensive

I saw that seller, I asked them if the cases come with a SIM tray and USB cover, they haven't gotten back to me yet.

Yeah they take a few days to reply, it's probably best you go to their actual website and use the email address on there to email them

All up, with (requested) international shipping, it would cost me $98 AUD.... and that's without the sim tray + usb door. Too expensive

I bought my Cyan case from a seller named "freetrade21" and there was a SIM tray and USB door included. It got shipped from Hong Kong and has a CE mark on it.

By all means it may be a genuine housing, but i very much doubt that any of the asian sellers on ebay have the genuine housings. I got one that was supposedly genuine, however the cyan was definitely a slightly different shade to my original housing + it turned out to be faulty

I didnt have time to read the 10 pages of responses but I have switched out two N9s and it is medium difficulty, easy if you're used to Nokia's hardware.

All you need to do is pay attention.

The most difficult bit is swapping out the front facing camera.

I have some instructions from Nokia Care. I can dropbox the link if you private message me. Also I'd be more than happy to tear my N9 down and send a walk through; i've been meaning to do that anyway.

Let me know if you or anyone needs it.

Honestly the one that I got from Hong Kong didn't 'feel' like it was Polycarbonate. Even though I ain't a plastics expert it did feel cheaper than the plastic currently housing my N9.

I tried to change the case yesterday.... After it was done i noticed that the hardware keys doesn´t work. I tried it several times but the on/off button doesn´t work.

HMPF

well I wrote to the seller and he wanted to pay me the money back, I´m strained and will inform you.

And I ordered one at digital supermarket with simtray and usb door.

My n9 got some dust particle under the screen. I am surprised how this happened because the screen sits in the unibody. Anyone know how I can get dust out?

I might upload a picture of my housing (unfitted) tonight! still a little worried its fake, but it looks fine!

I have even tried to compared it to the dissasembling video and it appears to have all the same markings!

I can't see why anyone would go to so much trouble to clone the housing and all the ribbons and antennas inside?

i bought one of this:
http://www.ebay.com.sg/itm/White-Ful...9#ht_560wt_994

FYI, this is the same group with freetrade21.

I received it yesterday. Very good quality, no issues so far. Seems much better fit compared to the cyan one i got from freetrade21. I will put some pictures on it when i get the chance to.

so do you think its a copy? mine had a screw missing on the speaker ribbon which was odd? let me know how the camera flash performs? as this is meant to be brighter than previous flashes (on nokia phones) so if this is a 3rd party flash it may not live upto Nokia's!

tanwg 2012-06-21 09:14

Re: Anyone replaced the N9 chassis/case?

i tend to believe that it is copy... where can they get so many originals? Although when i hold it, i cannot tell. Flash-wise.. I am not sure if I can tell since i don't take a lot of photos. But you can always move your original flash to the new case.

Re: Anyone replaced the N9 chassis/case?

Yeah look, i honestly think all the ones coming from China/Asia are fakes. Think about it, it has gps antenna, gsm antenna, flash, front facing camera, all this stuff mounted in the body, with the polycarbonate casing - for $50 including postage?

How would they be getting all of these through Nokia, considering Nokia doesn't sell them

I also do believe some of them may be real, but taken from returned/broken phones

The one i received had a broken off screw in it, damage to where the sim tray is, and the flash didn't work

Re: Anyone replaced the N9 chassis/case?

The cost price of manufacturing anything electronic related in Asia will surprise most people. Even quality high end audio/pc equipment. Its the brand that determines retail price. That's the reason why so many manufacturers are moving their production to Asia.

I'm with Grazy, these aren't run of the mill replacement housings to easily replicate simply by taking a mould. It has so many components already built in. Also its the small details that match up with disassembly videos that make me think these are genuine. Most fake Nokia products are easily identifiable. Some of these guys cant even get the logo right :p

I do think these are getting out of the Nokia manufacturing plant through some back handed deals and include units that weren't fit for production. Obviously I have no facts and is just my opinion from the chassis I purchased for $50.

that is exactly my point better explained! mine has a few scratches within the case! not sure why? but one of the ribbons at the top still has the red plastic protecion on it? so can't work out if its new, and real? fake and new? or taken from a N9 as spares?

either way i agree its too well made to be fake! the ebayer i bought it from sells all sorts includng the screens! these cant be fake as they would be near impossible to replicate! look at the fake N9's you can buy for example? those are so obivously fake!

I dont see any complaints from that ebayer (freetrade21 i think). I'm sure they would be leaving negative feedback if they attached the new display and it wasnt as expected? and look at the other spares he has loads? even for the lumia 800/900!

Also why would the UK ebayer have real cases and those from asia are not? where would the UK guy get them from? there not even sold in the UK? Also note how the UK seller makes the point that everyone elses is fake? his price is higher and people feel more comfortable buying from him! he gets more sales!!

loving the pics btw, I'm very tempted to do the swap now!

how did the internals compare when you had them both stripped down? I'm guessing its hard to tell?

tanwg 2012-06-22 09:12

Re: Anyone replaced the N9 chassis/case?

I wasn't really scrutinising the internals... I was rushing since i have a kid to take care and houshold work to do haha.

The first cyan case i got from freetrade21 has some speaker problems. So i think his cases are not 100% good. But i am lucky the white one is good. Weird thing is the blue one came from Hong Kong and the white one came from Sweden!

If it is your first time changeing, please please use a good screwdriver and take care not to strip the screws.

watch the videos and detach/attach the usb cover at the correct angle, so as not to bend it

these are the more difficult parts when i first did it.

thanks for the advice! I plan on buying some good screw drivers! can anyone recommend some?

my white case from freetrade21 was also via sweden? maybe he has some connection there and the are real? did your cyan one have CE markings on it?

tanwg 2012-06-22 09:54

both my cyan and white casings have CE markings on them. But I would think that the CE marking is an easy thing to fake.

I guess, although i have heard some people say there housings had other markings and not CE markings! They would probably still have a CE mark anyway as they are shipped internationally

been looking at your photos and quite impressed with the effort! still building up the courage ti do this! how is the speaker performing? is the falsh ok? the two housings look near identical! you too have numbers written on the ribbons whwereas your black housing does not! I have yellow writing near the speaker yours has black writing! not sure what this means?

how would you rate you new housing? real? all bits line up perfectly by the looks of it!

Speaker works okay, can't hear a noticeable difference. Flash works (both bright light and "red" video recording). Also tested: Buttons, headphone jack, front camera (using "Simple Mirror" from Store).

I called somebody today and they said that they understand me now clearer than before (but that might be because my original old housing / microphone had some problems since the beginning). Also, my old housing was squeaking a bit when you squeezed it on the lower left edge, this is gone with the new one (but again, it seems like my original housing was a bit bad in general).

In general, I'm quite happy with it so far. I noticed a small dent at the back near the silver camera thingie, but not sure if it came like that or if I did this. It's nothing functional, just a cosmetic thingie, and not really noticeable until you look really closely.

Just search ebay for "nokia n9 display" - because the glass is attached to the screen it comes as 1 unit (you can't just replace the glass itself)
