sudo gainroot |
Re: [ HELP] package installation and removal gives error

Re: [ HELP] package installation and removal gives error
there isnt any other way that i can remove this app? thats strange. the provess you mentioned eaarlier is way too complicated and i cant do it.. any way to solve? now this is utterly shocking and dissapointing
will this help?? cyberciti.biz/tips/nfs-stale-file-handle-error-and-solution.html |
Re: [ HELP] package installation and removal gives error
The error is triggered by some sudden reboot, a (very rare) unclean shutdown, or some crash, during which the partition in question was used for some input/output process. This is called 'NFS Stale File Handle', originally name derived from NFS, but commonly used now.
The error itself does not harm any other function of the phone, but opera. If you are not planning to re-install opera, everything should be fine on your device. But i do not know, if you had other applications, that also might had produce 'NFS Stale File Handle' at the time opera did. Only a check from a not running system could cure that via file system check, may that be a PC, a second system on the phone, like Nitdroid or Meego or Kubuntu-Mobile, that does not use the /dev/mmcblk0p2 partition. Did the uninstall work now??? |

Re: [ HELP] package installation and removal gives error
ok i did purge opera but the directory and the error is still present but opera is not in my menu.so its uninstalled but the directory is present.
if i uninstall opera i do not get NFS stale handle anymore so other apps doesnot have this problem. only i can solve this by installing nitdroid? should i install nitdroid on emmc. i like opera. i want it since i dont find microb appealing and other browsers are very slow. |
Re: [ HELP] package installation and removal gives error
any help yet bosses? i am trying too. my cousin is a mechanical engineer. he told that if i can mount /dev/home/mmcblk0p2 and fsck it i can fix the error bt i cant since it says device resource busy. for that i have to access single user mode. any ideas?

Re: [ HELP] package installation and removal gives error
@Mohammed Muid,
What part of "Why don't you just delete /home/user/.opera completely and then reinstall opera-mobile?" don't you understand? Open a terminal and type "rm -rf /home/user/.opera". If that fails, first gain root ("sudo gainroot" or "root") and then repeat the above command. |
Re: [ HELP] package installation and removal gives error
what r you? if this was so easy i woudnt have opened this thread. plzz read my previous posts. this is not that simple. cant delete the file. this is your precious output:

Re: [ HELP] package installation and removal gives error
As I recall, the last time I had this problem (on a desktop machine), I wasn't able to "rm" the files, but I could still "mv" them (or their parent directory) elsewhere -- i.e., "mv .opera stalefiles" or something like that. This at least gets the dead links out of the way.
I think the only way to delete them is as others have pointed out, mount the partition in a different way (such as using the "mass storage mode" when connecting via usb), and deleting them from there... |
Re: [ HELP] package installation and removal gives error
I tried to connect with ssh and delete the folder but couldnt delete. Plzz guide me.i hav tried a lot. M tired

I guess your best bet is either to reflash again or to install pali's recovery console and fsck the partition from there. Once thing that puzzles me. You say you reflashed and then you couldn't (fully) install opera-mobile because those stale file handles were in the /home/user/.opera folder. How can that be? Did you really fully reflash the N900? Anyway, good luck. |
Re: [ HELP] package installation and removal gives error
Yes i reflashed my op5fs and rootfs.(not my emmc) then i tried to install many apps that i need. While installing opera i faced the problem.even before reflashing i had opera installed but never in this 1.t yrs i faced this problem. And pali's recovery console? How to do that? Where is it. If only i could fsck /dev/home/mmcblk0p2. I cant mount. It says device and resource bzy.

Re: [ HELP] package installation and removal gives error
But /home/user/.opera is not in MyDocs, i.e. the whole /home (except MyDocs) is the same partition as /opt, so if you reflashed that then you shouldn't have any leftovers under /home/user (again, except MyDocs).
Maybe it's worth double-checking that flashing wiki and trying again? (just a suggestion, not trying to sound arrogant..) For Recovery Console: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=72726 (package link: http://maemo.org/packages/package_in...ry-boot/0.1-1/) At this moment I don't think you need any warnings about extras-devel, so I will not warn you that bad things can happen(tm) :) Basically it's an additional entry for bootmenu that allows you to drop into a shell right after the kernel is loaded (i.e. before /sbin/preinit has finished). At that moment only rootfs is mounted, so you can fsck around. Just keep in mind: it requires bootmenu and a kernel with framebuffer support (="pure" text mode). I use kernel-power-47. You can of course use kp49. Alternatively, you might want to install backupmenu (a bit "friendlier" because it has an option to fsck all partitions automatically). |
Re: [ HELP] package installation and removal gives error
i have backupmenu installed. do i need install the recovery console too?
|
Re: [ HELP] package installation and removal gives error
backupmenu dint allow to fsck. its written that i shud manually fsck. gave the error in dev/mmcblk0p2
|
Re: [ HELP] package installation and removal gives error
I DID IT. I DID IT. WENT TO RECOVER MODE. fsck/dev/mmcblk0p2 and had to type y for like 100 times. it fixed it. remove home/user/opera.
but now i cant install opera. it says: BusyBox v1.19.3 (Debian 1.19.3power5) built-in shell (ash) Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands. ~ $ root BusyBox v1.19.3 (Debian 1.19.3power5) built-in shell (ash) Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source E: Package opera-mobile has no installation candidate Nokia-N900:~# and cant boot menu and multiboot work together? i also need backupmenu. how to access that? |
Re: [ HELP] package installation and removal gives error
Hm, seems like you are missing the repository
Code:
[1|user@Nokia-N900|~]apt-cache policy opera-mobile |
Re: [ HELP] package installation and removal gives error
i want both bootmenu and multiboot. is it possible? i want backup menu too. is it possible?
Edite: after this fsck i am facing sum errors. I noticed the media player (default) the 5 dots iwhenn video plays inis not happening. And there is no back button. I have to press the power button to close media player. Is der anyway i can reinstall it. Apt-get install -reinstall doesnor work |
Re: [ HELP] package installation and removal gives error
go check the file /var/lib/dpkg/status
(if using nano) type nano /var/lib/dpkg/status then search for opera-mobile (ctrl + w) and paste here the part of the opera-mobile block it should start like Quote:
(I hope I made myself clear) Oops I didn't follow the whole thread, it seems like you got Opera removed right? |
Re: [ HELP] package installation and removal gives error
i flashed my phone. but how on earthe the problem is there.: i wanted to install few apps. i went to app manager. added few catalogues. when it started check for updates it suddenly stopped checking. the log file says:

Re: [ HELP] package installation and removal gives error
@Mohammed,
I see you've opened a new thread about this problem. Not sure if you managed to actually correctly and fully flash your N900, but that's the only thing you can do at the moment. I mean really flashing the whole thing. If you do that properly and you still get those stale file handle errors it may be an indication that your EMMC is hosed. That's serious bad luck. |
Re: [ HELP] package installation and removal gives error
i fully flashed my N900 along with emmc. the problem is not there :D
|
Re: [ HELP] package installation and removal gives error
