Re: What apps are you missing for the Nokia N9?

from my point of view a sync tool for PIM is essential and a must have for every user. The most important data are calendar, todo, contacts and notes. There are tools to sync calendar and contacts with google, but I can't find a good solution for todos and notes. On my Nokia E6 I use funambol to sync with the now called onemediahub. It works perfect. For the N9 I tried to connect the funambol service via syncevolution. It's okay for calendar and contacts, but todos and notes are still not working.

I think it would be great to have a nice sync tool with a GUI based on syncevolution.

I'm amazed that no-one has ported a decent torrent app yet. (qtrapids or transmission etc) Meetor is awful. There would be alot of interested people to buy it!

I just got my N9 and can't find a decent mind-mapping program. HiveMind is close, but I couldn't get it installed yet. A program called Flo also looks intriguing. Google Hivemind and Meego or Flo and Meego to get as close as I got. Note that HiveMind has a fully viable Maemo version available and I think someone who knows what he is doing could comlplete a usable version for Meego in half an hour.

Has this been any fruitful since opening the thread, the developer page doesn't provide any information on if someone is working on the apps or what not. How to we find out if the wiki posting did anything other than wait and see if it shows up in store or gets announced in the forum?

I don't think we have seen the fruits yet - except for the cases where a user has pointed a need and another user referred to an existing application covering that need, or something similar.

As you can see from my initial post, I didn't expect the need for so much manual work moving information from this thread to the wiki page. I have been busy with other community activities but I'll go and update the wiki page. Is anybody willing to help?

The latest deadline for the wiki update is the bignning of the maemo.org coding competition, since that page should serve as source of inspiration for developers working on new apps.

I will also put time contacting developers of apps requested so they are aware of the interest, involving the partner managers at Nokia for those cases where one is assigned.

Torrential has worked fine for me. Sure it's very simple, but enough for occasional torrent download.

N9 runs linux, thus yle-dl works. Though you need to compile it (and libjson).

I'm willing to help. But what saddens me is that Nokia is trying hard to wipe out N9 & megoo (not to open another discussion on this). But atleast someone should contact/request Nokia to release meego OS code(100% open source) to community & allow community to provide firmware updates before all the developers abandons the meego ship.

Neverthless, I will find some time today in the evening to update the wiki.

@qgil
anyway we could add in either wiki or somewhere where if any developer is willing to or has started to work on any particular app could put committed by it so we as a user know its in works and any other developers would know and not duplicate the work?

Cross posted from PR1.3:

Actually, I would like a much better IMAP client like Profimail. Why doesn't Nokia's client delete emails on the server and why is it such a power hog?

I really miss Profimail on Symbian...so amazingly tweakable. I shell out $100 for it were it available...it's that much better.

http://felipec.wordpress.com/2011/08...n-n900-and-n9/

You have to edit a config file to set it up through, which isn't as nice as on the n900 version, but once its set up it works nicely (and supports http://libre.fm, which is always a plus ;)).

Thank You Very Much!

We have started discussing the Summer'12 Device Program and the Missing Apps is well referenced: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=84322

There is a category specific to publishing at the Nokia Store apps that exist for the N9 in some form elsewhere.

This is super-cool! Great to hear this!

All, whoever not yet identified the missing apps, please do so and add directly to the wiki.(or you can type here in format mentioned in the first post & I will add to the wiki).
Who knows, one of the developer might pick your item & fulfill your wishlist! Hurry up!

Can someone make this topic Sticky, I mean, really Sticky?!!

Re: What apps are you missing for the Nokia N9?

Some of us prefer non-commercial messengers, so support for XMPP voice and video calls would be great. Now that GTalk voice and video calls are there it might be even quite easy to add.

As it is the XMPP text messages work nicely from N9's default message app (though account activation GUI is disabled, so I've had to help my friends and family to add their accounts via command line).

[edit] XMPP voice and video calls actually do work after installing Gtalk Video Call add-on. :)

Go to phone application > find an xmpp account from list of contacts and touch it > call screen appears > touch account name below the contact (where the phone number would normally be). During the call you can switch from audio to video call by pressing the video camera icon.

Lots of thanks to people who made this. :)

Two "would-be-nice-to-have" apps:

MediaPortal controller/client like aMPdroid for android. It uses MpExtendedService as a backend which has a somewhat documented API. Even just the WifiRemote part would be awesome.

Also nice would something like HomeBuddy which controls MiCasaVerde Vera home automation gateways. Vera also has a documented API. Here is an UI example.
