N9 WONT Charge Over USB
I recently bought an external battery for my N9 which charges either using the solar panel or through a usb charger.
It then has a USB port which can be used to connect it to various devices to charge them. The problem is, EVERY flipping device works apart from my stupid N9. This is irritating, I constantly get the "Insufficient power to charge device" This would be fine if it just happened on the external battery, but I also get this message on my PC AND my Laptop! The N9 also detects the USB lead as a computer constantly asking what mode I want it in "Mass Storage/Sync and Connect/SDK" Its not being connected to a PC just a battery so why is it asking me for a mode? It also seems to be charging for the first few seconds then when I select a mode of just select nothing it gives me the Insufficient power message. Im running out of things to try :( |
Re: N9 WONT Charge Over USB
You did hook the cable to back of your PC (not to USB hub)? If your USB ports won't deliver enough current the phone won't charge. Why do you want to charge your phone from your PC? Wallcharger will do it a lot faster, but if you really have to charge it from your PC use Y USB cable like this
To get that external battery to charge your phone you need to short the data wires so the device will get full power. |

That still doesn't really explain what I have to do :S
Do I have to short the cable pins or open up the battery and short the data pins there?? :S |
Re: N9 WONT Charge Over USB
I'm facing the same problem with my N900 . but in my case wall charger does not charge at all. The PC USB ports sometimes charge and some times it gives me "Insufficient power" notification. I have put my problem here http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...31#post1189531
I still can't figure out what the problem is! |

PS. whatever you do DO NOT short anything on your battery! |

Anyways this sub forum is for N9 not N900. They are totally different devices and these problems aren't related. |

Not the actual lithium battery inside the phone or even inside the external battery. I meant within the circuit board of the external battery where the usb port is |
