Re: [Announce] Sociality | Harmattan version

When Sociality's minimized to the background:
http://i46.tinypic.com/2wqsht0.jpg

When Sociality crashes:
http://i47.tinypic.com/2f06lv9.jpghttp://i47.tinypic.com/2ur8jsn.jpg

The log contains no personal info (the one on your device does(!!!)), but the one sent is processed to remove your access token and any links that may point to photos and such.

You may clear either of the notifications, and in any case, if Sociality is already running the icon will resume it.

Re: [Announce] Sociality | Harmattan version

i didn't get the above shown notification, when miimized (minimized means run under background rite?)
Also I would like to know how to share photos uploaded by others (other shares from friends). I tried to do this from feed directly and also from sociality. In web I can share, but here no options!

Re: [Announce] Sociality | Harmattan version

It's in the next - unreleased - version.
Photo sharing (from News Feed) isn't provided by Facebook's API, sorry :(

Re: [Announce] Sociality | Harmattan version

Hey, Thanks!

I'm glad speaking up about it caused an outcry of Interest. I'm glad you're still working on it, and it looks absolutely great.

Personally, I'm not too concerned with photo sharing and chat in particular, since the N9 can do it directly. I would much prefer to see the App tie in with the built-in functionality.

If for example, I clicked chat on the App, it would bring up conversations, or the Availability menu.

And for photo sharing, just bringing up the Gallery would be nice.

Nonetheless, it looks great, and I can't wait for the next release.

Re: [Announce] Sociality | Harmattan version

Hi MAG, would you please include event feed integration in a future version? The reason for this is because the stock FB app shows all kinds of crap things in the event view (including apps/games blocked in the website). I wanted to have an FB event feed with just updates from close friends

Re: [Announce] Sociality | Harmattan version

I'll see about that, in the meantime, V0.3 is out!

http://mohammadag.xceleo.org/sociali..._0.3_armel.deb

Code:

sociality-mtf (0.3) unstable; urgency=low

  * Implemented opening photos from notifications.
  * Added even more settings.
  * Added check for updates support.
  * Implemented commenting on photos.

 -- Mohammad Abu-Garbeyyeh <emailhidden>  Fri, 18 May 2012 03:36:28 +0300

sociality-mtf (0.2) unstable; urgency=low

  * Added album support.
  * Fixed segfault when opening notifications sheet with new notifications in it.
  * Fixed running in background.
  * Threaded image loading for a faster UX experience.
  * Fixed settings page.
  * Added bug reporting feature.

The changelog might be missing a few things.
Sociality has a new feature, "Auto check for updates", this will make Sociality check for updates every time it detects there's a new internet connection while it's running, and at startup, the process downloads about 61 bytes (yes bytes) of text, if you don't want this for some reason, you can disable it in Settings.

You can also manually check for updates in the About sheet.

Re: [Announce] Sociality | Harmattan version

Hey, the new version is great. Very smooth, very fast. Excellent overall, it's already my go-to FB client.

One question, when minimized, you can click the icon to resume the app. By clearing it, do you then kill the app? Making it a quick way to quit? Or does it still run in the background even if you click to clear.

Otherwise, awesome work. Thanks!

MohammadAG 2012-05-18 08:13

Re: [Announce] Sociality | Harmattan version

Clearing it simply removes the notification, I'll see if I could implement that though (as a configurable option of course) :)

MohammadAG 2012-05-18 12:21

Re: [Announce] Sociality | Harmattan version

I figured out how to have an icon other than the flag for notifications.
/usr/share/meegotouch/notifications/eventtypes/ holds config files for different event types.
Look at notifications.service.facebook.conf for example:
Code:

iconId=icon-m-service-facebook-notification #default user icon if one isn't set at runtime.
previewIconId=icon-s-status-facebook-notification #no idea, probably what shows in the status bar when the notification is published (the one that disappears in 2s).
lowPowerModeIconId=icon-m-low-power-mode-facebook-notification #the icon that shows on the N9 standby screen, not used on N950.
statusAreaIconId=icon-s-status-notifier-facebook-notification #the icon shows in the status bar when the notification's there, the default is a blue flag if this isn't set!
priority=23 #priority so that when there are lots of icons, the status bar knows what to hide.
persistent=true #self-explanatory really.
feedbackId=IDF_DEFAULT #no idea, probably haptic feedback when the notification is clicked
genericTextId=qtn_fbk_notification_new_notification #default text
genericTextCatalogue=facebook #no idea
userRemovable=true #if the notification can be cleared, software update ones cannot for example

If someone would like to help with icons, I'd appreciate it :)

You know, that's actually preferable as it is. I was running in to the issue, where I would have the app running on background, so the notification was up, then I would receive another notification from the App, click it, and go into the app.

(At this point i'd like to point out it would be nice if it would go from the notification straight into FB notifications, rather than just opening the app, and having to manually do it, but that's a small thing)

But upon exiting the app, I would then have two notifications saying it was running. I can't clear just one, therefore I had to clear both.

Which made me think I killed it. So I had to re-do it again, obviously this is a bit of a pain. So knowing I can clear it, but it is still running, is nice.

The option to kill it when clearing the notification is nice as well.

Either way, once again, great work!

That's how I made it, at least that's how it's working for me, if you click on a notification it's the same as clicking it in the notifications sheet. If it's not working it's probably a bug :/

Yeah, for me personally, it just takes me to the main menu on the app.

Also, I think clearing the notification IS killing the App, I'm not sure, but I don't seem to get any notifications after I clear the Sociality notification ( I might not have tested it thoroughly)

And also, I'd like to suggest lockscreen icons? Maybe one to note that the application is running in the background, and one to note that a notification has been received. Maybe the same icon, but changed to reflect just running/notification received.

Also, i'd like to point out real quick, it is great on battery. I can safely leave the app running, with almost zero impact on my battery life, which is excellent.

The background notification being cleared isn't hooked to any code, so it can't kill the app (you can check with ps x | grep sociality-mtf) :)

I can't add the standby icon, I have no N9 and the N950 has no standby screen.

Couldn't you ask TGalal for the way he did it and borrow his basic code (obviously you will have to change it to your own language but you can see the method of doing it) :)

It's not about the code, it's about testing it on something ;)

Edit: also it seems to be the same way to set the flag icon, through a conf file

It could be my crazy mind playing tricks on me.

As for the stand by icons. Alright, fair enough.

(I'm so jelous on the n950 btw. But I'm glad good developers like you got them. I have half a mind to gut my n900 or even a lumia 900 and see if I can get one of those to run, either for physical keyboard, or big N9)

Sign me up for the helping to test bandwagon.

I'm basically next to an end-user, but I learn quick (look how 1337 I am by installing Ubuntu on my laptop, wheee)

I'd still like to help if I can.

I DO have one bug to report.

I can't post any replies.

I can update my status, but I can't post anything under a thread. The post button does nothing.

However, the app has never crashed on me, so that's good.

Looking awesome MAG, magic work once again it seems!
How's everyone finding this compared to the stock client & fMobi 3.0?
Can anyone speak from experience?
I'll give it a whirl soon, just keen to hear what others opinions are 1st.

Thank-you.

I'm not sure if this is already known, but the comments tabs on my events feed will list the number of comments, but when I click on it, the prior comments are not visible to read. There is a field to input my comment, just no way to see other people's comments. Any thoughts?

Definately better then the stock client!

The stock client is so irritating, it tells you that you have notifications and messages, but then you tap it and it opens the app, and the app then has to be REFRESHED before you can see the new notification or message...

It seems so unbelievably stupid, why doesn't the app just refresh messages and notifications so when you open the app, the new stuff is there to see, instead of having to wait.. Even if it had a splash screen of just the facebook logo on a blue background while it loaded i would prefer that.

Nokia did the same thing with HAM on the N900, Open app, refresh repos, check updates, search for ur app, refresh repos again, then install. Wasted processes.

Thanks mate,

Doesn't sound like a huge improvement over stock, may wait till later.
I wonder how it will compare to fMobi 3.xx.....
It was supposed to be out 5wks+ ago but keeps getting delayed.
The dev seems to be more interested in the Symbian variants sadly.
And probably increasingly WP soon, although nothing for it yet.
When I start to actively use it I'll provide feedback & donate, always do.

I've used the stock client and Fmobi, and I can tell you for sure this is the best one.

It's faster, runs smoother, has better features. I LOVE running it in the background. It takes up very little battery to run in general, and almost no footprint on background.

It is simply the superior choice.

I can live with some bugs as long as they are being worked on. After all, even the "perfect" apps like the Iphone and Android ones throw bugs, and are honestly not as good.

Sociality is faster than stock client no doubt but what I don't like about Sociality is the fact that one status message with quite big "Comment" and "Like" buttons on News Feed take so much screen space. MAG how about possibility to change font size? Also if you have used Gravity in symbian it has this neat trick of revealing all possible "action" buttons (e.g. Comment, Like, Open Link...) when you click on the status update.

Re: [Announce] Sociality | Harmattan version

Bug report: It seems to be possible to have several notifications of "Click here to resume" on Events view :).
How to repeat:
1) Open Sociality from launcher and make sure you get some notifications about new posts , likes etc.
2) Close Sociality -> "Click here to resume" notification pops-up. Do not click it.
3) Instead click the notification related to new posts, likes etc -> Sociality will open
4) Close Sociality -> You will have 2 notifications of "Click here to resume".

Installing now :)

Did you by any chance implement the auto-updating for Wazapp too, because they both function so similarly and both so slickly.

No, I haven't implemented anything in Wazapp, I only helped with some bugs and ideas (in code), but I did point tgalal to the source code while I was implementing auto update and he said he'll base on it (Wazapp is in Python, so he needs to translate the code).

@MAG

Is there any chance you could Implement "Pokes"?

It is the ONLY reason I still have the text messaging FB notifications as none of the N9's apps seems to be able to poke people :(

I don't think there's an API issue as both iPhone and iOS have this feature.
