Yeah, I was thinking of adding Twitter support to Sociality, still debating that (while looking at Twitter's API)

Re: [Announce] Sociality | Harmattan version

I'm gonna be honest, I'm rocking QNeptunea, and it's a great Twitter Client.

That being said, if you could provide twitter support as well, it would be awesome.

And can we be crazy enough to expect some Google+ support?

As far as I'm aware, the API for G+ is very limited, it's only for viewing, can't post or anything, since I believe they want to keep their client on Android.

However, if you could take a look through it, you might find other things that are useful, and perhaps, G+ Hangout integration. That would be amazing.

Personally I reckon you should focus on creating a truly awesome FB client.
There's already way more Maemo 6x Twitter clients than there are FB ones.
There's that good S^3 client (name escapes me) that does multiple social networks.
But it's Twitter utility/usability is now falling behind some of the best Twitter clients.
You spread yourself thinly & you run the risk of not being very good, just mediocre at more things.

Maybe longer-term you could integrate some sort of compatibly with Diaspora?
It's much more like FB than Twitter, just a more "FOSS friendly" version...
Google+ client may be a good idea too, but IMO the hard focus must remain on FB.
Unless you feel you can branch out & still maintain very good utility/usability for everything.

I agree on all your points APART from the Disapora.

I think if MAG should integrate more social networks, it should be Twitter/Facebook/Google+ as they are the main ones instead of putting effort onto a social network that isn't widely used or even heard of by majority of our mates :P

AFAIK the g+ API also has a very small number of hits allowed per API KEY, unless money is paid... Essentially making it unrealistic for free software to use.

Hi @MohammadAG and everyone,

I know it's a bit late, but wanted to add my voice to the "interested" party.

I just getting to know my way around now, and will add to the feedbacks.

Also to add my voice on other social integration, I actually would like to have G+ added, but hearing how Google themselves are making it extremely restrictive to +1 without an Android or an iPhone, my vote will go to making this app THE APP for FB on Maemo/Harmattan ;-)

Thanks for the app and keep it up!

Yeah I did stress that maybe it'd come later, & at a lower priority.
It's much more akin to FB than Twitter, & there's already great Twitter clients progressing strongly.
And given some of the annoying aspects of G+ already posted, & the fact that it's still pretty tiny.
All that combines to make Diaspora a little more appealing longer-term.
But maybe it's best that there's a separate/dedicated client for it.

Re: [Announce] Sociality | Harmattan version

So, how's development going?

Any news on the G+ front? Maybe even getting that hangout chat working (wow, that would be amazing)

And the new FB feature, Handshakes? The one that lets you find random people around you?

Ya know, cause that's how FB rolls. How about facebook videochat?

Anyway, if nothing comes from this, I'm just bumping for interest.

It's still my go-to FB client and it works very well... Except I still can't post on threads, only new posts.

Re: [Announce] Sociality | Harmattan version

I also vote for Facebook and G+ development. Thanks for all of this.

Re: [Announce] Sociality | Harmattan version

Hi there!
Sociality doesn't work for me...
After i try to log in ( username and password ) ,sociality tells me : "This page contains the following errors: error on line 2 at column 218 :Expected ';' but got '='

Could somebody tell me how to fix it?
or,at least, how to disinstall it, because up to now,it s impossible....

MohammadAG 2012-07-26 03:40

Re: [Announce] Sociality | Harmattan version

New version of Sociality (0.3-5):
  • Checkin comments + tagged people in Checkin Page, you can now comment on/like checkins and see who's tagged in them.
  • Hidden scrollbar on MainPage for better visual appearance.
  • New list implementation for FriendsPage and CheckinSheet (list of places to checkin to)

SolarisSixth 2012-07-26 03:58

Re: [Announce] Sociality | Harmattan version

Will you be pushing Sociality to your repo? Or keep it out since it doesn't need to be incepted?

Also, I was going over some of the projects at the nokia developer page, and noticed a few other fb apps. I tested them, and ran into the same issue as some other people on this thread, the facebook page that doesn't let you validate your account, so you can't use the app.

Maybe you can contact the developers and work together on a solution?
Anyway, looks great, and i'll be testing out the update.

Re: [Announce] Sociality | Harmattan version

Version 0.4 now out.
  • Added basic animations to make Sociality a better looking experience.
  • Fixed "<3" statuses breaking checkin tags.
  • YouTube links can now be opened in internal media player.
  • New list creator replaces old one.
  • Moved facebook session handling to new class.
  • Allow albums of other users to be opened by tapping profile picture.
  • Fix all notifications being broken by Facebook's removal of object_id.
  • Group posts now open up individually, rather than the whole group page.
  • Tapping a photo link in the news feed opens the photo in Sociality.
  • Centered the more button in the news feed.
  • Fixed broken layout in Places page.

Use in app update to update

Edit: Version 0.4-1 allows users to disable the "Sociality minimized" notification, configurable in Settings.

Edit 2: Version 0.4-2 fixes some login/logout issues.

I apologise for the login issues, I had to try a friend's account to see the problem as it wasn't happening on my account.

Login should be fine on 0.4-3, if you still have issues try logging back in again.

Hello Mohammad, Can you upload this to apps for meego? It would be easier for the rest of us to update the app from there. (As it would notify us that there's an update)..

Until this app is stable I won't push it to Apps for MeeGo.

The app has an internal update feature that checks for updates every launch, this should suffice until the beta phase is over.

Edit: Version 0.4-4 fixes issues introduced to people who didn't have issues, in this case as I see it, only me :/
And it fixes missing scrolling in the notes page

@MohammadAG
Looks like if I don't let software running in background and not refreshing notifications, they always pop up again in event feed, is it a normal behaviour ?

Thnaks anyhow, this app is getting more and more smooth and mandatory :D

Re: [Announce] Sociality | Harmattan version

A few feature requests!

1. Make the notifications that appear on the events feed Squircles.

2. Pressing the 'Clear' button on the N9 Feeds screen clears the 'Sociality is minimized thing' Ability to disable the sociality is minimized event popup would be nice.

3. Make it possible to POKE people, it seems only the iOS and Android clients are able to poke people which is upsetting, would be nice to fully move away from facebook text notifications.

4. Make picture viewing swipeable, so I can click on somebodies photo album, and simply swipe right to left to see the next picture in the album.

5. Make a search bar on the Friends List page! OR an alphabetical sidebar to allow easier scrolling! :)

6. Ability to change how often Sociality refreshes things for battery consumption reasons.

7. Last but not least, any chance of you making a twitter client? It'd be nice to have a twitter client that uses Harmattan's notifications system. This way I could disable notifications from the stock facebook/twitter client and pretty much avoid using the stock facebook/twitter clients :)

1. It's already like that but I broke it somehow :)
2. Check settings ;)
3. Poking is only available to private API users, like Nokia, not me.
4. Working on it, it's hard in MTF :/
5. Trying to implement alphabatical sidebar, but again, it's hard in MTF.
6. Check first post, it's just missing in the settings UI
7. Nope, not at the moment. I'm not sure if I should seeing as Twitter is looking to close the API to all 3rd party clients.

3. Aww that honestly sucks, guess that's a no-go then :(
4 & 5. Looking forward to it :)
6. Thanks I will check that out :)
7. Ohh well that's no good! Stupid twitter, well if it does close it will be a shame, would've loved a MAG Twitter client, would easily blow the others away!

Thanks for the great app :)

EDIT: Apparently you can request your app to be whitelisted by contacting a facebook dev or two :) The app doesn't have to be an official app to be whitelisted, especially if you only request certain functionality :)

Re: [Announce] Sociality | Harmattan version

This might be an odd question MAG.

I know how to start sociality via terminal, but can i start it minimized?

I am trying to phase out the stock facebook app, by disabling its notifications and using profilematic to start Sociality in the morning, and close it at night.

Sociality refreshing every 30 minutes :)

Obviously it won't be as useful until messages are integrated but I have fMobi as a backup :)

It would be useful to be able to start sociality minimized via terminal command so I dont have to minimize it myself every day :D

clovis86 2012-07-31 12:20

Re: [Announce] Sociality | Harmattan version

check the settings, you can minimize it instead of closing it while swiping down the app ;)
