cantruchd do you have a github account? If yes please fork and create a pull request, if everything is proven to be ok I'll merge your code.

the processes you see I think are not multiple, just ps prints one line for every program in the chain (sudo shell, sh, run-standalone and actual timenow). I'm not sure this is the correct explanation though, a more experienced linux user should tell us.

Hi qwazix,

Yes I do (just created) but cannot find your git, can you post it here?

pull request sent. Please help to merge code then release new version for community

Will do. I just realized that code on github is out of date so I'll have to push first, then pull your changes and send for rebuild. I will do that today or tomorrow.

Thanks for the input.

I'm sorry I haven't forgotten it I just have got some troubles with my hard disks and I haven't been able to accept the pull request.

Re: [Announce - #MCCXII] Timenow: Proximity enabled lock screen

qwazix, can you add a unlock button in timwnow also ? so we can unlock the phone without using slide key or power key. is its possible ?

Kossuth 2012-11-13 14:49

Re: [Announce - #MCCXII] Timenow: Proximity enabled lock screen

If I understand your request correctly it has nothing to do with the Timenow itself. I think the Timenow only show automatically the lockscreen you are using, so if you install a lockscreen that has unlock button, it will show up. Hope this help.

Re: [Announce - #MCCXII] Timenow: Proximity enabled lock screen

You can already soft-unlock as the slider to unlock shows up after the proximity sensor is uncovered.

Re: [Announce - #MCCXII] Timenow: Proximity enabled lock screen

Is anybody using timenow in conjunction with eSpeakTime?
http://maemo.org/downloads/product/Maemo5/espeaktime/

Uncovering the proximity sensor triggers the screen first (thanks to timenow) and then eSpeakTime says the time after a few seconds. As a "standalone" eSpeakTime says the time when the power button is pressed while the lock screen is on.

I personally don't want eSpeakTime to go off every time I uncover the proximity sensor. To prevent it one can a) unlock the screen quickly, before eSpeakTime or b) cover the sensor quickly. Is there a better (more configurable) way?

Re: [Announce - #MCCXII] Timenow: Proximity enabled lock screen

I had to uninstall eSpeak Time after installing Timenow. The espeak man would tell the time far too often, sometimes just randomly without being desired to.

It was a hard decision to make. eSpeak Time is very useful for not having to get the phone out to check the time, but Timenow in conjunction with the Harmattan Concept screen of QTLockscreen really made dealing with the lockscreen practical when the N900 was docked in my car while driving.

Re: [Announce - #MCCXII] Timenow: Proximity enabled lock screen

Only just discovered this. Works a treat. I use a case and Timenow makes checking the time a pleasure. Many thanks.

qwazix 2012-11-22 11:35

Re: [Announce - #MCCXII] Timenow: Proximity enabled lock screen

unfortunately I can't do anything about espeaktime as timenow by definition fakes a powerbutton press. If you can configurem espeaktime to fire on power button double click or something it could solve this problem.

panjgoori 2012-11-22 11:43

Re: [Announce - #MCCXII] Timenow: Proximity enabled lock screen

when i touch proximity sensor it lights up screen immediatly. is there anyway to increase time to 2 or 3 seconds before activating screen ?

qwazix 2012-11-22 11:55

Re: [Announce - #MCCXII] Timenow: Proximity enabled lock screen

Not directly, but increasing the interval in the configuration file will have this sideffect. However, I have to build (or if somebody is kind enough to do it) the source from github, with the patch from cantruchd so that this is more reliable.

Re: [Announce - #MCCXII] Timenow: Proximity enabled lock screen

I've ended up uninstalling timenow, solely because it espeaktime would tell me too many times what time it was, and in situations where i wanted to phone to be quiet.

However,

Code:

dpkg -l | grep "rc "
showed timenow as not having been completely uninstalled, so I purged it. In addition, although I am quite reluctant to blame timenow, pressing the power button does not show the lockscreen every time anymore; I don't know if it started with uninstalling timenow, I am merely trying to narrow down the cause.

Re: [Announce - #MCCXII] Timenow: Proximity enabled lock screen

Not trying to imply the implementation is perfect, it is sure far from, but the power button issue I think is a general N900 issue, I had it forever. I always double click the powerbutton.

I see, thanks. Well I didn't have the issue before. Pressing twice would work, but again I have espeaktime, so if the first press happens to work the phone will say the time even when I don't want it to.

But thanks for your work on timenow, I'd love to install it again, but I need the time voice when I'm driving etc. I'll keep an eye on this thread.

worked with 0.0.2 but when i update to 0.0.10 it doesn't work?

Re: [Announce - #MCCXII] Timenow: Proximity enabled lock screen

Thanks for that great app Qwazix!

I'm sure someone has asked already, but don't find anything by searching the terms: are you planning on porting that jewel to Sailfish/Jolla?

Picking your phone in your pocket to check time is (not so) surprisingly easier than picking it in your pocket and double-tapping it to show time.

Installed in on my N900 anyway, but I'd like to see that on his grandchildren too!

qwazix 2013-12-18 23:12

Re: [Announce - #MCCXII] Timenow: Proximity enabled lock screen

Porting is not the right word to use as this is essentially a giant hack, using various N900 specific things. I'll poke around sailfish to see if this is possible at all, but I can't promise anything.

Re: [Announce - #MCCXII] Timenow: Proximity enabled lock screen

It may be (for sure is) the wrong thread to ask, nevertheless:
power button push needs often (especially when screen blanked and device locked) double press to wake up and shpw slider. Hereby espeaktime is triggered.
This has annoyed me always and also blocked me from using timenow .
If some kind soul would recompile espeaktime with setting "triple push" (needa to be verified) to trigger the little (wo)man to speak, this would be excellent and make it 'compatible' with timenow.
tia

Re: [Announce - #MCCXII] Timenow: Proximity enabled lock screen

so 0.0.2 works fine but not 0.0.10?

qwazix 2013-12-22 00:23

Re: [Announce - #MCCXII] Timenow: Proximity enabled lock screen

It should work. Read the thread for a workaround if it doesn't. Unfortunately it is out of my hand to fix that as it is in another package.

qwazix 2013-12-23 11:31

Re: [Announce - #MCCXII] Timenow: Proximity enabled lock screen

When cantruchd pushed his contribution I was unable to push to devel because of the migration issues with the autobuilder, and then I completely forgot to upload the new version.

You should find 0.0.11 soon in -devel

Nice work =) because when i cover my proximity sensor the lock screen appears =(

How can i get this working? Any tip? =(

Re: [Announce - #MCCXII] Timenow: Proximity enabled lock screen

If the lockscreen appears when you uncover your proximity sensor it works. That's what it is supposed to do

Breeze5 2013-12-25 12:13

Re: [Announce - #MCCXII] Timenow: Proximity enabled lock screen

ok, sorry =) but with this 0.0.11 when i use my phone and cover the proximity my screen goes black =( and when my phone is locked and i cover the proximity nothing happens.

qwazix 2013-12-25 12:18

Re: [Announce - #MCCXII] Timenow: Proximity enabled lock screen

hmm weird... I'll have to look into it. The change from 0.10 to 0.11 shouldn't affect normal operation apart from correctly getting the interval from settings

Anybody else has the same problem?

Kossuth 2013-12-25 16:26

Re: [Announce - #MCCXII] Timenow: Proximity enabled lock screen

Actually I have same behavior here. I noticed earlier that I lost the showing of the lockscreen with uncovering the proximity sensor, but this had happenet before. This time i could not fix it by restarting timenow.conf and proximityd, but only until I came here I noticed that that the screen now goes blank when Im using it and accidentally cover the sensor. I think I upgraded from the cantruhds unofficial version.

Sorry for that botch, the old version is in cantruchd's post a few posts above. I'll try to revert the problem and push a fix.

you don't need to say sorry. It is really great app and thank you for that. It will be really nice if you could revert it or make it usable for me. Thanks again

0.12 on it's way to extras-devel, please test.

I have added some redundant checks too, so it should be more stable now.

Thanks for patience :)

Hi qwazix, thanks for the fix but it is still not working for me. When i uncover the sensor then it is showing very low light with led still blinking (kind of just the sign that display is alive) which is only visible in dark but it doesn't bring lockscreen or show anything. Waiting further for the fix...

Kossuth 2013-12-30 19:08

Re: [Announce - #MCCXII] Timenow: Proximity enabled lock screen

Same here, no lockscreen on uncover, but the screen does not blank when using the phone and covering the lockscreen accidentally. So, some improvement. Thanks.
