you don't need to flash. try fixing malf state first before re-flashing. it won't lose your apps etc.

Is this for N9 and Windows too?
The problem is I can't turn off my phone: when I press a long time on power button, it automatically reboot with the error message.

Thx, so I'm going to flash my N9 tonight.

i don't think it puts device in open mode with linux afaik those files are Nokia sanctioned? Correct me if I'm wrong but even if put in open mode, you can simply flash kernel only from rootfs after fixing the issue.

There is no physical way this SOFTWARE app can increase the temperature.

An increase in temperature is due to careless overclocking! Don't blame the software because you have high voltages running through your chip.

Well, I had very high temperatures (but with 0.9.3/0.9.4), too.
For example: I was browsing the internet (nothing special, no videos, just some simple web sites). After ~5 minutes it turned very hot, where it usually was very cool without FasterN9 installed.
And my device isn't overclocked a bit.

But that doesn't actually make any sense, I am not saying your lying, just that it doesn't make sense, unless you have overclocked your N9 and/or something is using up your CPU.

I recently found as-daemon to be eating my CPU making my N9 warm due to having it overclocked it was constantly running at max voltage and frequency.

It could be a pure coincidence, as-daemon has nothing to do with FasterN9, killing it in terminal resolved my issues :) Use Conky to diagnose what is draining all your CPU's time.

It certainly seems that FasterN9 causes more trouble than delight, according to the recent posts...
I suggest let's wait for upcoming PR1.3 and see if there's some optimization and faster transitions added...
Nevertheless, thumbs up to the OP for his definitely hard-trying work..

Anyone who tests a development app such as FasterN9 does so accepting that there is a risk.

It's not an easy code to write, I imagine. And there is always the risk that as soon as someone tries a particular version, any unsual behaviour is immediately attributed to FasterN9; including me.

I have really enjoyed testing FasterN9 and Traysh has done a fantastic job and should be congratulated for his efforts so far - I hope he keeps up with them!

I only wish that Nokia had implemented something similar into the firmware.

We will have to wait and see what PR1.3 brings. ;)

Exactly the same for me.
Reboot doesn't change anything. ..
But everything is smooth!

I have unfortunately experienced the tracker bug, followed by the Music playier instantly closing with a 'Not Responding' error, so uninstalled 0.9.7

Will wait and see for a future version, currently trying to test my contacts but stupid N9 isn't syncing them from my exchange server!! :(

EDIT: Eventually sorted the sync, it seems my N9 managed to DELETE all my contacts of my exhange server as well!! Now I am keeping a hard backup just incase.

Found my first bit of noticeable and recreatable lag. When uninstalling an app the ui comes to a complete stop for about half a second a few times. Happens every time.

0.9.7 is working fine for me.

Re: [Testing needed] FasterN9

don't really care about the battery consumption because it has not been really consistent... but launching apps does sometimes take longer time with 0.9.7 (and 0.9.4 as well). Well, I screwed up my phone before installing 0.9.7 (did some stupid mistakes) and re-flashed PR1.2 (Wish I have seen the fix MALF guide mentioned in a previous post), so I guess reflashing doesn't really help reducing the time taken to launch an app.

but overall, apart of the launching time, my phone does feel a little bit more responsive :)

My Avg idle was still around 6-10ma WITH fasterN9 installed.

Re: [Testing needed] FasterN9

Hello everybody.
I'm lurking here for quite a while. Haven't flashed a phone before, I am enjoying the 0.9.7 so far. The phone's behavior is stable and the battery consumption dropped from one day to a possible 2 days usage. Maybe it's a bit placebo but it looks good so far.

Just for facts: average idle during the day: 18-23 mA; average during night: 8 mA
I'm using 1 Mail for Exchange account and one Hotmail (8-20 hr)
Facebook, Skype.
News feeds
Meecast.
Average 4 hours daily on 2,5 G. The rest on WiFi.

Right now I have 11,5 hours discharge time, with 45% idle consumption.
Many thanks to the developer.

BTW, do you think the FasterN9 could create issues for me when the PR 1.3 is here?

That was true in PR1.1, but not in PR1.2. In PR1.2+ you need to full reflash in order to get out of open mode to secure mode.

Not entirely sure what you are saying, but many apps? Don't you mean 4 apps..

FirewallPro+, Twitter, Fennec and Call Recorder, other then that I haven't seen reports of any other apps with problems

Re: [Testing needed] FasterN9

@taviman

Your average idle consumption looks about right for the background processes and internet connections you typically use.

Afaik PR 1.3 will overwrite the FasterN9 hack, as it would with other hacks. It's like flashing the devices firmware image but leaves personal data, photos, music etc intact.

Even flashing your phone yourself leaves all your personal data intact.

Its only if you flash your eMMC that will erase all your personal data, and you only ever do that if you have a very serious problem with your device.

Re: [Testing needed] FasterN9

After my crash when I uninstalled 0.9.4, I re-installed PR1.2 with NSU, downloaded all my apps and installed 0.9.7 and everything works like a charm and really smoothier.
I hope I'll not have other issue with next upgrade ;)

PS 1: I have the same consumption with the same settings as Taviman (except I'm using 2.5G during 10 hours/day except on week-end)
PS 2: No problem with Firefox 12 (from the store) or twitter (the Stock one or Qneptunea which is my favorite)

0.9.7 works fine for me and love it

The only thing that i don't like is that application manager says "insallation failed", but

Code:

dpkg -l | grep fastern9
says that it's installed

@traysh Do you think you would be able to look at getting Firefox to run faster? Its super slow and FasterN9 has not done it any good.
