Because I will like to flash my N9, and then install this...
Opinions?

N9QTweak is a collection of tweaks for your system...It doesn't speed up your system except for Tweak A which just speeds up the transistions and NOT the system as a whole...

FasterN9 is a cgroup mod for your device which changes some priorities of the I/O scheduler along with other things so in most cases you'll end up with a faster device than stock...

If you read just the past 2-3 pages you'll see Schturman, the developer & creator of N9QTweak, too uses FasterN9 for his system and highly recommends it...

Hope the above clarifies things...

After one weeks usage of the stable version I'm glad to report that I have noticed only positive effects. Thanks!

Yes this one..But there isnt such a "lag" without fastern9.

However, everything else seems to work great and faster n smoother than before.

Thanks

Re: [Stable!] FasterN9

Well this is one awesome app. Almost all of the lag is gone.
Now the only thing I've noticed is that the radio(the one from the music store) starts to stutter badly when I use the phone. Playes perfectly when in standby mode. Then I unlock and there's a stutter. I remove the wallpaper and again. Change homescreens and there it is. I don't know if it's caused by fastern9 as I only started using the radio recently but figured I should post it.
Anyway thanks for the great app.
EDIT:using the stable 1.0 version.

Re: [Stable!] FasterN9

BananaOnDrugs,

Try uninstalling fastern9; its most probably the cause of the stutter...

You may want to try both stable and unstable versions; IIRC one of them solves it...

BananaOnDrugs 2012-10-11 09:58

Re: [Stable!] FasterN9

Just installed the unstable and rebooted...still stutters but I guess it's a little better(could be my imagination). I don't use the phone that much while listening so I guess I can live with it. Thanks anyway.

Are you having the stutter while listening using bluetooth headphones?

next time i'll try it with the current unstable (which is working great so far!) and report back.
so if you use your n9 for sports, there is a (temporary) solution!

i tested again with the stable version. the funny thing is, it depends on when you press the lock button. if you lock the phone with sports tracker open, it will stutter. but if you have sportstracker and qspot (presumably any other spotify client as well) swiped to the multitasking view, it works perfectly.
@ traysh, i think you can update the first page with the known bugs.

Nope - without headphones or the ones that shipped with the N9. Interestingly enough - it doesn't stutter the first few times I lock/unlock/change homescreen after I've had the music store onscreen and then it does it everytime.

I've got "not responding" message for 1 second in Nokia Store when scroll installed apps with latest one FasterN9.

Re: [Stable!] FasterN9

I was afraid this would happen...
After a day of perfect usage, I tried launching the Notes app, and it didn't do ****...
After giving up, I tried clicking on the "Reboot" icon and it didn't do ****...
A few hours later, I tried taking a picture, and same ****...
Shut it down through the button (2s) and it was alright, until it hang up in the middle of the shutdown... NOW, I had to shutdown via the 10s method ("hard" shutdown)...
I didn't do anything all day except taking pictures and sending them via mail, and messaging...
And the phone never had this behavior before...

Later,
Chinoman10.

Delete twitter cache.
This is not due to fastern9, it's a problem with twitter app.

Didn't help but deleting two files from

Did the magic, once of the cache files was 27mb now twitter opens instantly :D

Are there any news about the problem with stuttering of the video recording as mentioned by Mandibela?

The N9 is so much better with FasterN9 (thanks!), so uninstalling is not a real option -- but video recording is virtually not usable at the moment.

Sorry, if the answer is already there in one of the 100 pages -- I didn't read through all, with thread search I could not find any clue.

I really don't have that problem anymore. I'm running 1.0.0.

same here, lags in video recording.
i'll try to free some space to be sure.

Re: [Stable!] FasterN9

Installed v1.0, didn't think it would have as much of an effect as it has, it's pretty amazing! However with QuasarMX, audio goes quiet (it doesn't skip or stall, it keeps playing, but sound blanks out) when the app is in the background and UI heavy stuff like scrolling is happening on screen.

Re: [Stable!] FasterN9

Kind of review for stable (1.0.0) version.

Installed it about a week ago and... uninstalled it tonight.

Pros:
+ really smooth UI transitions
+ kind of faster boot up process
+ smooth and fast keyboard layout switching

Cons:
- video playback stutters really bad

Yeah, only one negative moment. But it was enough for me to uninstall it, 'cause I watch YouTube videos pretty often.

I can't say that default (without FasterN9) video playback is perfectly smooth, but FasterN9 really worsens the situation. You can test video playback performance on this two videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7HKoqNJtMTQ and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjIwmJMqrco (stuttering is more noticeable in the second video). Open them with something that uses default system videoplayer (like cuteTube).

EDIT:
Also, it seems that idle battery consumption increased by ~ 4mA during this week.

flopjoke 2012-10-20 21:35

Re: [Stable!] FasterN9

^ for me, the latest unstable version has very little or no lag/stutter with video record or playback.

It used to lag on previous versions versions, but I'm not sure the problem can be pointed to FasterN9. Ironically, with the unstable version, things are very stable and smooth.

imaginaryenemy 2012-10-20 22:32

I have the stable version installed and i watch You Tube videos through CuteTube all the time with no stuttering at all.

Hacker 2012-10-21 02:02

Re: [Stable!] FasterN9

I agree with Flopjoke in that the latest 'unstable' version has been even faster and more stable than the stable version, though I haven't had a single problem with either of them, including no video stuttering. Perhaps there was another cause? I do overclock my device as well, so who knows?

PIDk 2012-10-21 09:13

Re: [Stable!] FasterN9

Well, I will try to use unstable version. But the fact was that after uninstalling FasterN9 all stuttering was gone.

I have inception and unrestricted-system-ui installed. What do you guys think, can this somehow conflict with FasterN9?
And what can you say about increased idle power consumption?

Anthony1971 2012-10-22 21:35

Re: [Stable!] FasterN9

for me too , unstable version working good , stable version not very good

when coming a new version ? anybody knows ?

lifeintheblitz 2012-10-23 03:42

Re: [Stable!] FasterN9

I think the video playback problem some people are reporting have something to do with the codecs the N9 uses. IIRC, PR 1.3 updated the codecs for smoother video playback, but even then I've been having some minor stuttering, but only with the default video player. Using OVP or the video players used by podcast apps didn't give me any stuttering. Smooth as butter.

Tried it both with and without FasterN9, so I'm more inclined to believe that this is a problem with the codecs and/or the default video player.

PIDk 2012-10-23 06:49

Re: [Stable!] FasterN9

Still didn't try unstable FasterN9, but I think I have found interesting "undocumented feature"... :D

Before PR 1.3 my idle power consumption was around 5-8 mA. After updating to PR 1.3 it jumped to ~13 mA. I double-checked configured daemons, processes on the top of htop - everything seemed fine. So I gave up and accepted new increased idle power consumption as necessary evil of using PR 1.3.

As I mentioned earlier in my posts, when FasterN9 was installed on my N9, idle power consumption was even higher than right after updating to PR 1.3: ~17 mA. And now... after uninstalling FasterN9... my idle power consumption, miraculously, returned to it's pre-PR 1.3 value of 5-8 mA!

I haven't experienced any data corruption whatsoever related to Faster N9 since moving from stable version to unstable version weeks ago. It's worked like a charm on my device.

It seems I have to thank Nokia that they Flashed my phone after fixing the USB port, I've installed Stable FasterN9, damn the phone is so smooth. One friend of mine came to me saying she's this close to selling this phone and buying a BB thanx to Lagging and Wazapp not delivering messages in time. Told him to calm down, I wipped out the old version of Wazapp, installed Cepi's latest version, the pumped in Faster N9, rebooted the phone, U should have seen the smile on her as she checked, then I installed Drop Cache just for the fun it and taught her how it work she constantly sending me Thank U messages, no more BB!

Thanx to all the Dev
