This commands are only for testing, you don't need to do them yourself. This error occured because your phone is not in open mode.

So that means most of the commands worked, but not an important one: setting meegotouchhome (responsible for the 3 home screens) to realtime...

It's a pity. So maybe the right thing is donation campaign to buy used one for fix or replace your one at least motherboard.

On second tought, it worked only as user and the commands are run as root. I'll have to adjust that...

Aegis won't let root change the I/O priority of a process owned by user. Anyone knows how to work arround that?

Is FasterN9 missing any credentials?

This might possibly be a shot in the dark, but why don't you ask Nokia to include FasterN9 in PR1.4 :D

So in my understanding, we should never clear cache even manually with N9 option in setting?

FasterN9 uses caching (well, actually the N9 does anyway, but I think FasterN9 is more reliant on it now?) to speed things up. If you keep dropping it, you're gonna lose some of the performance.

Re: [Stable!] FasterN9

traysh, Hi
I have a question...
In N9QT I use Full refresh command that include this command:
Code:

/sbin/initctl restart xsession/mthemedaemon
/sbin/initctl restart xsession/applauncherd
/sbin/initctl restart xsession/mdecorator
/sbin/initctl restart xsession/devicelockd
/sbin/initctl restart xsession/presenced
/sbin/initctl restart xsession/meego-im-uiserver
/sbin/initctl restart xsession/conndlgs
pid=`pgrep -f transfer-ui`
devel-su user -c "kill $pid"
/sbin/initctl stop apps/extended-power-menu
sleep 1 && /sbin/initctl start apps/extended-power-menu
/sbin/initctl stop apps/callrecorder_recorder
sleep 1 && /sbin/initctl start apps/callrecorder_recorder
/sbin/initctl stop apps/callrecorder_phone
sleep 1 && /sbin/initctl start apps/callrecorder_phone
/sbin/initctl stop apps/wazapp
sleep 1 && /sbin/initctl start apps/wazapp
/sbin/initctl stop apps/ringingrestorerd
sleep 1 && /sbin/initctl start apps/ringingrestorerd
/sbin/initctl stop apps/profilematicd
sleep 1 && /sbin/initctl start apps/profilematicd
sleep 1 && gconftool -s -t b /desktop/meego/notifications/previews_enabled true
sleep 1 && /sbin/initctl restart bme
/sbin/initctl restart xsession/sysuid
/sbin/initctl restart xsession/celluid
sleep 2 && /sbin/initctl restart xsession/mthome

My question if this refresh commands somehow can broke FasterN9 work ?
Because I don't know this, in the last version (9.7.1) I also added refresh of FasterN9 after profilemaitc
Code:

/sbin/initctl stop apps/FasterN9
sleep 1 && /sbin/initctl start apps/FasterN9
/sbin/initctl stop apps/fastern9d
sleep 1 && /sbin/initctl start apps/fastern9d

Can you tell me if I need this in the Full refresh or I can remove them. Thanks

These commands won't affect FasterN9 (except the ones regarding to fastern9d)

No need to restart/refresh fastern9d, as it won't alloc memory dinamically. In fact, fastern9d will work better if let alone. So do not restart it.

Schturman 2013-04-27 19:10

Re: [Stable!] FasterN9

Thanks
I will remove both of them (FasterN9 and fastern9d) from Full refresh. :)

This is almost right. FasterN9 just adjusts the filesytem cache size, which every linux have and which "drop cache" erases.

If the cache is cleared, every time you need to read a file (like photos, contact info, etc) it'll be read from the disk (flash memory, whatever), and that's really slow. The fact is cache is a good thing except if it causes running programs to be swapped out (slow too). So FasterN9 ajusts the cache size to a value that will won't cause programs to be swapped out.

tonyhuynh 2013-04-27 23:19

Dears,

Does the reboot clear cache or not? As we can see it looks faster after reboot.

Sniper_swe 2013-04-29 20:50

The updates for the Twitter app mention a more aggressive clearing of cache so have you updated and tried?

Sniper_swe 2013-04-30 06:48

Yeah i have the lastet one. Was better for a while but now I'm back to clearing it daily with profilmatic or terminal.

In the Applications menu, the FasterN9 has the red question mark and installation failed underneath. When i try to uninstall i says: Installation failed. Installation interrupted. Try Again or Cancel. Try again just says that it can`t find the installation package. Cancel just cancels. What to do now? Terminal uninstall?

Excellent release. I have been using it for some days and the phone is just snappy. In fact I was just a minute ago surprised that I had so many applications open. With the previous versions (and of course stock configuration) I could feel it using the phone when there was too many applications open.

I think it's time for another donation.

Can you estimate the time to release version for normal mode?

wout.martens 2013-05-01 06:37

Re: [Stable!] FasterN9

my N9 died completely :(
Upgraded to latest release over 1.1.4 but had also dropcache installed together with a rule in profilematic that it should clear my cache in the morning before waking up...

A clean format was already long time ago but now I can't even boot the device anymore (also tried the RD flag but even that is not working (flagging works but not booting))...

So time to let the N9 go, well this one :) Will have to change motherboard in order to get it working again but that means completely tweaking it again (all my backups are still on main memory so can't access them...)

Now i booted my Lumia 820 but that's not a joy :) Have also some highend Android devices but none of them have the UI I need for daily use (swipe that is - combined with rss feed panel etc...)

Anyway, think it was the combination of fastern9 / dropcache that killed my device...

@traysh just to tell you, you're delivering a good job in making our devices faster, keep on further developing.

Hope to be MeeGo online again during the day :)

Re: [Stable!] FasterN9

wout.martens,

Use Fix MALF State to recover your device; software tweaks excluding overclocking shouldn't kill your device unless you played around with the CAL area.

So my guess is the power isn't enough on your device or it has just had a MALF state issue...

I tried this with the RD flag in order to boot into OS.
Phone was just behaving strange (bluetooth crashes etc) - power was enough as it charged all night.

used it for like 5min in the morning. Than things went bad - no email - no accounts configured etc.

Anyway fastern9 is installed again on new motherboard. :)
Now config of apps etc...
