It's an advantage for any platform, to have you.

The amount of talented devs on iOS makes me obsolete really.
If I move to iOS the only thing I'll miss is a forum like tmo (sure, it has it's times...), and development (I started iOS development once or twice, but got bored of having to go back and forth to/from the VM with XCode).

What sane person would like to such draconian platform as iOS?

I don't worry about the OS. My problem with Samsung is that their hardware design is not so good as Nokia's. But it's still better if they make some medium quality handset which would have X11 or Wayland (and the rest of Linux) drivers, than not to have anything.

I get it. But it builds a precedent that you're not having any support.

Unless the OS is truly, really, fully open, alongside the hardware drivers and all. The community devs wouldn't be able to help in many cases, and the company's support would be essencial.

And I agree. I never had or saw a Samsung device that had even half the hardware quality of Nokia. As a matter of fact, I don't think there is a single hardware manufacturer that comes even somewhat close.

I'm speaking for myself here, but when/if Maemo/MeeGo die off, and no new devices are produced, I won't move to Tizen.

The only alternatives would be Android and iOS, and tbh, I prefer the latter, the main coding language is Obj-C, which I like better than Java.

And what about Blackberry QNX / BBX ? I'm close following the news this days and is gaining momentum in me ;-)

Totally forgot about it, we'll see how that comes out.

MohammadAG: Hopefully Plasma Active will come out with handset version as well at some point. Then there will be something mature to switch to :) So one would be able to get some Tizen handset, install PlasmaActive / Mer there and enjoy.

they are still more OS201x devices in the pipeline from NOKIA, just a matter of patience.
and then there is... the next billion with Meltemi devices.
most likely with Aegis squared respectively without any SDK or any such possibility, at least from factory, but as it will be build on Harmattan & Co, it may still be possible to hack 'em
hardware wise, it can't be much worse then N9 now, can it?

What is this os201x you speak of?
A google search found me nothing but garbage and a link back to this post lol.
