Ok, I was able to solve this issue by creating a script in /home/user/bin
which looks like:

Then, using this script as custom action, the keyboard came up correctly in chats in Wazapp . Hope this info helps for anyone trying to script wazapp using Profilematic.

Can anyone explain the idea, why there is a need for another proprietary instant messaging platform, when there is open XMPP out there?

XMPP is made for interoperability. Proprieatry IMs are walled gardens, which is the dark age of computing. The same story was with e-mail in time of Compuserve and early AOL, when users simply couldn't even exchange e-mail messages between different providers. Luckily e-mail managed to break those walls and now no one even dreams that you can't send a message to user from a different e-mail provider.

XMPP (former Jabber) was intended to solve this issue for instant messaging. So it's really surprising that proprietary and non interoperable IM networks pop out here and there in this day and age.

I for example wonder why is there Windows and why people not only use it, but pay for it.

But just so we wouldn't start off-topic you can ask those question in Old wazapp threads, as here we try to concentrate on development, bugs and improvements.

What does this mean? You are forcing a internet connection even in Power Saving Mode (or whatever PSM stands for)? Sorry but I strongly disagree with this decision, PSM are meant to be battery-friendly, and shuting down any connection is one of the main point because of the big battery drain. I usually enter in PSM when i'm going to bed, and because of this it will be no difference between PSM on & off. Please please reconsider this, or at least add an option to deactive this behaviour. Thanks.

Yeah obviously its his package, he will release and check any additions before allowing an update to come out.

BUT anybody can view the source code now, so help can be given where TGalal may be too busy to focus on ect.

ie. The smaller usability bugs that may occurr can be worked on by somebody else, whereas the main ones can be worked on by TGalal, but in the end he still has to release the package and the auto-update feature on Wazapp is linked to TGalal and TGalal only.

What is confusing?

There is only ONE Wazapp, not multiple, just the one from TGalal that available in the link on the very first post.

Any screenshots you see are simply UI modifications done by other members by altering the styling files within the application directory.

Errrr. Quit wazapp?

You aren't going to be using your phone while your sleeping, so just Quit wazapp :)

The reason behind is so that if you want to have Wazapp open, it will stay open without interference from power saving mode. If you want all your data turned off for PSM then quit the program.

Agree with you but Whatsapp has achieved such a hold on the smartphone world that some users won't buy a smartphone which cannot run Whatsapp. The main reason for wanting Whatsapp is that most of their buddies are already on Whatsapp. To me, an IM platform where you are forced to make public your mobile no. and upload your contacts' mobile nos. is an invasion of privacy but such is the mass hysteria over Whatsapp that this is ignored. Whatsapp prospered not because it is good but because it happened to be in the right place at the right time in the early days of smartphones when users were groping for an inter-platform IM app and Apple stupidly refused to unwall iMessage. Once it achieved dominance it practically shuts out other IM apps because "all my buddies are on Whatsapp".

There are other platforms crying for Whatsapp but this company has refused to port to smaller platforms like Bada, MeeGo and WebOS. Only MeeGo has succeeded in creating an unofficial client. To MeeGo users tgalal is like Prometheus stealing fire from the gods at Whatsapp Inc to give to them.

Well keep waiting, honestly, you need to search before posting, its been posted countless times, and people are getting a little fed up of the same questions being asked.

ATM it isn't known whether it is being worked on or not, its not a priority, the Dev wants the N9 to be bug free before he starts porting it to another platform..

Stop asking, and just sit patiently, otherwise PM TGalal instead of spamming this thread

I want that interference. I don't want to quit Wazapp. I want PSM to do what Nokia designed initially for it: to switch off all connections, among other things. I don't want to go behind all apps and check if this of that thing are consuming my data plan / battery. I already create a set of rules thanks to Proximus app in order to get my connections and my battery use perfectly controlled. This is what i want and this is how i want my phone to work like.

I trust in my phone to switch to PSM when my battery percentage goes under 10%. In order to what? Yes, in order to save battery. And if my phone stays connected to 3G even in PSM, it will die in no time, PSM have no use then. I'm not looking to my phone 24/7. Not waiting to switch off Wazapp according to this or that thing.
And please, if you're going to modify the main functionalities of the operating system, please include that things as an option, not by default, no need to be a must, a imposition. Thanks.

Now that the source has been opened there is a danger of fragmentation due to modifications by various developers. Hence there may arise many versions of wazapp with different features, bugs and UI unless there is a "gate keeper" to integrate the best features into one official app.

Personally I feel the source code has been opened too early before main features like group chat, change status and media sending have been added and bugs squashed. tgalal could have opened the source to selected developers for their input but maintain overall control over the app until a full featured bug-free app is released and the danger of major fragmentation passed.

Landscape error has been fixed and pushed to master Git branch.
Emojis are supported fully and no html tag parser can replace true unicode font.
More fixes were merged.
I hope TGalal will release it officially soon. :)
We continue to work on it but in more order and sense to avoid problems.

There are ~470 emojis in several categories...
I was thinking of making it smoother to switch between categories, but scrolling itself is as fast as it can get with QML GridView and it's cache. Default category has 109 emojis and that is a bit of a stress for resources...
Final solution for that would be to add Recent category to open first - in this way, user would only scroll to the ones he always uses...

Thanks all for the great work
After updating to 0.25 I encountered a problem. When running in background the app disconnects and closes itself whenever I switched from one wireless network to another (e.g. from 3G to wifi or vice versa). To me this is pretty annoying as I couldn't receive notifications. Is there a solution to the problem?

I've downloaded Wazapp 0.2.5. I selected my country and entered my phone number. Wazapp exited as soon as the registration SMS arrived.

Now, when I start Wazapp it wants me to select my country and enter my phone number again. How can I enter my registration code from the SMS? Is there a configuration file than I can edit?

as I can see we are very near to status changing option... it'd be nice if the status could be visible in "Chats" and "Chat" screens too (photos 2 and 3), not only in "Contacts" (photo 1)… changing statuses would then be of more sense, as it could be seen almost always - the "Contact" screen is the one we are least on...

Since Wazapp seems to use quite a bit of battery when it's just idling on 3G connection, I did some investigations using Energy Profiler. In particular, I found that every 3 minutes, i.e. during each ping, there's a pretty significant increase in current draw of about 200 mA lasting for over 15 seconds. If this is amortized over long time it adds about 17 mA to the average current consumption, which is more than twice the consumption on my device when Wazapp is not active. There were other spikes probably related to Wazapp as well, but those exactly 3 minutes apart were clearly identifiable.

In contrast, when having a single MfE account on push there were no significant current spikes at all during the test interval and the current consumption stayed constant at about 7 mA, in other words there is clearly some room for improvement.

So, may I suggest that the pinging interval be made adjustable to account for 3G networks of different reliability, or better yet make it adaptive if it's possible to determine if each ping was necessary or not. Also, might be better to use the system heartbeat timer for the pings instead of just a QTimer so that the pings could get aligned with other system background activity, although I suspect that on most devices there are no other processes polling the network nearly as often as every 3 minutes.

Edit. I'll add that on Wifi there are no ping-related spikes visible.

There was a separate thread that was to be focused mostly around the N900 (wasn't specifically named as that).
But it seems to have disappeared from this sub-forum....
So as to minimise these posts constantly popping-up (yes I know it won't be full-proof :rolleyes:).
Can we create a new N900 Wazapp thread, & perhaps link to it in the first post?
Unless there's plans to release something for the N900 soon-ish...
In which case it may make more sense, just to have all feed-back in this thread.

Great tgalal!

I've just installed! The emoji's work great.
But now there is two new issues: The font size in the edit text box (the editable text) is too smal. On the other hand, the text in the (now standards) baloons has too much space from top.

Anyway, is working nice!
