i see no reason why qml will work better on N900 than widgets.

I wonder if you really know what QML is? It's just another programming language, it's just that QML is modeling oriented.

The result would be the same: the interface *I* want. If you want something different, well then just do it. The source code of Yappari is there, you can grab it, modify it, fork it and make your own WhatsApp client, etc.

What *I* want for Yappari is to look as Maemo as it can be. To be an identical copy of the Conversations application.

Oh, have you decided to opensource it then?

I wonder if anyone will use the source to make clients for other platforms. I just updated my Nokia 520 to the latest WinPhone version and the official Whatsapp client runs badly on it to say the least. I'd also love to see a WinMobile version that could run on older smartphones... it'd make them far more useful.

Ah, how I wish I could code decently.

Remember that Windows Phone (the OS) doesn't have permanent sockets. That means WhatsApp has to disconnect and reconnect every time it closes and opens again. WhatsApp has to register with Microsoft to get push-events to get alerts of new messages...

Long story short: No matter what you do in Windows Phone, it will be a crappy client.

... but the battery in a Windows Phone lasts several days because of that ;)

1.- That's the way it is. Explained several times in this thread.
2.- If you change your status, others will have to wait for their phones to synchronize (once every day) or they have to click on "refresh status" in their phones. That's the way WhatsApp works.

About the requests:

1.- Maybe
2.- Are you clicking on the photo icon? You should, then use the volume buttons in your phone to zoom in/out in the image viewer.
3.- No.
4.- No.
