So... I got it working, but ! It seems that i need to add +51 in each of my contacts now in order to have them in Yappari, I tried and yes that's the only way that i can get them to show as contacs...

The problem is that i have like 240+ contatcs (not all of the have Whatsapp) and doing each one seems a little silly.

Can you take a look at it ?

It's cleary stated that yappari needs to have your contacts in the international format! It's not yappari's problem but your problem you don't have your contacts in international format. It's not only useful for yappari but if you go the a other country then you still can contact your contacts. It seems to be a big effort for now but one day it might even save your life...

Don't forget to backup your contacts after you changed them. I don't wish you to have this boring job to do twice ;)

@scorpius, yappari is working wonderful for me. Thanks. Sure, there are some features I like the see but I acknowledge it's only alphasoftware. Scrolling is OK. Would love to see real persistent history as after a reboot I can't join my groupconversation unless someone from that group says something first. I can live with it for now. Keep up the good work!

I have noticed a weird behaviour when I use Arabic physical keyboard, when I use uppercase letters I don't get the assigned letter, instead I get the English uppercase letter.

Hi Scorpius,
For the past few days am seeing a problem in my Yappari install. It was there from .10 and is still there even when am using .12
Yappari connects successfully, I see a "logged in" message in the status bar but it immidiately changes to "Disconnected" in less than a second. Although it still shows "logged in" in the left bottom corner of yappari, I am not able to send recieve msgs. It attempts a reconnect every 30 seconds but the same thing is repeated.
A reboot fixes the problem for a little while, but it keeps on reoccuring.

In your log the Whatsapp servers disconnect you with: "Replaced by new connection" all the time.

That means you're running Whatsapp with the same number in two different devices at the same time (you CAN'T do that!!!). Or maybe running the java port and Yappari at the same time?

Hi, i'm trying 0.0.12 now for a while and can say that it basically works very fine.
Some things that i observed:

I have the same problem as aman18narang and no, i have no other WhatsApp app running somewhere (not even the java port).

Another strange thing: the group chat works if i'm online, but i miss all messages that are sent when i'm offline. Shouldn't these messages be stored somewhere and then sent to me, as soon as i'm going online?
I hadn't tested it whether the same occurs for normal private messages.

For me it works, when I was offline and I come online my phone turns into a vibrator because of my missed groupchat messages. After 1-3 minutes after connection it seems it downloaded all the messages. I don't know however if there are some missing messages, I don't think so but I am not sure. Besides another bug, sometimes a person says the same thing twice, while I am almost sure it was only send once. I guess that bug is somewhere between WAserver and our client "yappari" ;)

got an update news from my friend that now whatsapp also support voip call, wonder it will be implemented in later stage too, just a suggestion :-)

p.s., forget what I say, she mix it up, it is actually a shortcut to phone call, not a working voip:p

I do not have another device using whatsapp and also don't have java port installed on the phone.
Is it possible that this install of yappari itself tries to reconnect again even before an earlier connection is lost? why I suggest this is because sometimes I get a reply from the same contact in a separate window than the one I had send message to (in effect 2 chat windows for one contact). I was thinking of reporting this as a seperate bug but know I think maybe these two are related.

@DerCommander and @aman18narang, that's definitely you or somebody else with your number is running Whatsapp somewhere else.

The fact that DerCommander doesn't receive messages when he's offline is because he's online somewhere else and those messages were received somewhere else.

The first thing I should try is close Yappari and tell somebody that's with you to send you a message. If that person shows a double checkmark then definitely you're running Whatsapp somewhere else (even if you don't know).

Another thing you should do, type: ps aux | grep Yappari

Yappari should appear just one time, are you running Yappari several times without knowing it?

The log from aman18narang clearly says that his connection was replaced for a new one. Other device definitely did it. There's no other way to get that error.

The only way I could think that might happen is when you lose the connection temporary immediately after you received the message, and the acknowledge is in your pending messages (to send). When you reconnect, the Whatsapp servers resend you the message and you acknowledge both of them (send two acks with the same ID).

I could prevent that.

thanks Scorpius, I shall try what you suggested. Although I haven't had the problem the whole day today, I will wait a while before I rule it out as bug not occuring now.

Also, I have a suggestion. Whenever another person receives the chat and the second tick comes (after the person comes online) his/her chat window pops to the front. It is slightly frustrating when you are doing something else and a window comes from nowhere. Now that we have chat history, is it possible for you to remove this feature?

Yeah I forgot about that. Messages status updates (checkmarks) should never bring windows to the front. If you are sending messages to several people and then you connect to the servers you'll see a dozen of windows popping heeheheheh

I guess it's because PSM of the wifi ;) I am always on wifi so I think it's the power savin mode that suspends the connection and is responsible for this bug/reconnects

I don't know if it's possible that someone uses my number for whatsapp. How could he/she verify without sms or voice method?

From time to time it happens that yappari crashes, or at least that the status icon disappears, and then i restart yappari. Probably the older instance was still running. I'll try to keep an eye on this the next time.

Hi Scorpius. My Yappari client was closed strangely by itself while waiting for a connection. Here's what I see when running via terminal.

Code:
Network connection changed: Offline
Connection closed.
Stopping timers.
Freeing up the connection.
Freeing up the socket.
Waiting for a connection.
/usr/share/applications/hildon $
In network preferences, search interval is set to none, and connect to is set to always ask.

Another suggestion regarding notifications. Sometimes while chatting, if my physical keyboard is out but i have not typed for a while, the screen times out to save power. At that time if i get a reply from the person am talking to (his/her chat is maximized and in the front) I do not get a notification.
It is problematic because one needs to keep checking if we got the reply or not. Ofcourse the obvious work around is to minimize the window when not typing, but adding a notification here would be more suited.

Is it possible to add that? Thanks

Ok I have written down that. Let's see if it makes the next release.

Another workaround is that you lock your screen (with the slide button on the side), that way you'll always receive the notification even if your keyboard is out.

Scorpius,

A suggestion. In the group chat, ppl can add you in the group but you don`t have any control whether to accept it or not, or even if you wanna leave an existing group, I guess you can`t. What if someone randomly adds you to a group chat (where you don`t want to be) & you are bombarded with so many msgs?

Can you try & include this option in next update?

I'd say media-sharing would be on top of my list.
It's nice to see who's online/offline and have it sync all your contacts.
But the need to quickly share a picture or song is what makes WhatsApp so powerfull in my opinion.
Even if its too hard to render thumbnail previews inside the chatwindow basic sending/receiving of files would be nice :)

I think media sharing could be a top priority in the list, and it would also be wonderful if u could put in an option of initiating a connection, because sometimes network signal might be weak and you won't know whether it's still connected or not. one last thing... is there a way of filtering contacts so as to see only those you can chat with?
