Guys, don't forget this is alpha. It means full of bugs and features are not complete. Features will be implemented in the same order the ToDo list in the first post is.

For 0.0.13 I'm working in a better group support. When you start Yappari you'll see the groups you are participating. I'm working on changing the subject, leave the group, stop notifications for it and see the participants list. Smileys should also make the list but I'm not sure if it'll make it (seeing them from others, not adding them).

Since you can't stop being added to a group with the original Whatsapp client I don't think Yappari can stop it either.

found a new bug. yappari never connects to server when connected to gsm data. i can only login via wifi. not gsm. when connected via gsm data gives I/O error.

For me the I/O error resolves itself after a couple of minutes, and after loading all messages it stays connected.

I *always* use Yappari with 3G data. Check that your cellphone provider doesn't have the Whatsapp servers blocked or something.

For example, try telnet bin-short.whatsapp.net 5222, if it doesn't connect is not Yappari's fault, it's just that your cellphone provider can't reach the servers, or have port 5222 blocked, or something.

I/O error usually means "cannot reach Whatsapp servers". I'll change those errors to something more mnemonic people can understand.

Yappari will always retry every 30 seconds no matter what unless it gets a registration/login error.

Scorpius..thanks for the work on yappari,u have achieved so much so fast and we are very grateful.i miss only one basic feature,the history of the people i have chatted with.i find it taxing to search through all my contacts in order to start a chat with someone i want to talk to.will the next version have history of people i have initiated chats with?

Not in the next release, but soon. Persistence in contacts has something to do with contact synchronization, so I'm not sure if you'll be able to see persistence of opened chats before that.

Workaround: Never quit Yappari, just close it. It will not bother you anyway.

It's because Whatsapp sucks XD I don't know any worse Instant Messaging system. Sadly most of my friends use it and don't use other protocols.

So Yappari rocks letting me chat with them! ;)

Thanks for explaining :) I didn't know I don't have an android client used, only the symbian one a looooong time ago. Confirms once again WA actually sucks. The reason I use it, is only because the very reason malkavian mentioned.

There's a way to request chat state, I think Whatsapp on Nokias do that when a chat window is opened. I think I'll be implementing that.

brother im facing a problem .... i have version 12...i discovered that in group chat .. while chatting for a while i signed out... next morning when i logged bk in ... i recieved all the conversations of the group... but then yappari showed DISCONNECTED and i stopped getting msgs... i cleared the logs .. again stared getting msgs... after a while again disconnected.... plz help.... do i constantly have to clear the logs??????

If people keeps talking after you close Yappari, when you start it up again you'll receive all the messages from the group when you weren't there. That's normal. You never leave the group, you just disconnect from it. When you reconnect you'll receive all the messages you didn't receive when you were disconnected.

If Yappari disconnects you stop receiving messages, that's also normal don't you think? If Yappari disconnects is because something's wrong with your connection (poor signal or something).

Also if somebody in your group is sending multimedia messages Yappari will disconnect because they aren't supported yet.

I don't understand why you need to clear the logs. You don't need to clear the logs to receive more messages, you just need to be connected. If Yappari disconnects is because the connection to the Whatsapp servers was lost. Yappari will always retry to reconnect every 30 seconds.

if you don't want to receive groups messages you have to leave the group, but there's no option for that yet hehehe.

This is my first post because of you and Yappari, everything was going as you said until today.
The phone have crashed and restarted and when I try to open Yappari, it shows a windows and then it closed every time I try to open. the last thing written in yappari.log is "Opening Address Book..." many times as I have try to open.
I'm with version 0.0.12 and it haven been working as perfect as it is during this days.

Your address book got corrupted. Read the thread there are several things you can try. One is to install a new version of QT Mobility contacts. Some people have solved that issue with that. Other fix is to export all contacts, delete everything, and import them again, etc. Read the thread.

I see you changed the colours in this version man, but now the problem is the other way around :P I can see my messages great but incoming messages are hard to make out...

I don't think he changed the colours in a newer version. You are using a different theme then Scorpius is using in his screenshots.

Might be a good idea to add to a future release to be able to change the colour of the text. Best theme to read Yappari would still be standard Maemo theme.

He has changed it actually :) a few versions back, the background colours were the same as they are now, but the font was grey (the secondary colour in the harmattan theme i'm using i think), so I could read the incoming messages fine but not my messages. Now it's the other way around since the font colour is white

Dear scorpius
please after installing and registering yappari, i made a mistake by removing my sim card and putting it into another phone with whatsapp application. After putting the sim back into my n900, whenever i open yappari it gives me protocol error. Please I want to know if i can change the number that i used for the registeration or fix the this mistake. please if its possible i need steps in doing that. Thank you

Delete the file /home/user/.config/scorpius/yappari.conf and register your number again.

yourtheme is most likely hicolor. That's the standard Nokia/Meamo one.

Change the Yappari icons in: 64x64, 48x48, 16x16. called Yappari.png
Not sure if Scorpius wants a logo that resembles Whatsapp that much.

That's crazy why would you like to see another application icon in Yappari?!?!?

They are NOT the same applications!

I respect Wazapp and their developers but I don't want Yappari to have anything to do with Wazapp.

Is is possible to download/upload files? They do not need to be rendered, just download them into the phone, and then open them with other app.
