Maybe code a GUI to configure it even more. There are some people that just don't care about people's status and could turn that off or set it like once a day or something like that.

Other people just LOVE reading people's status like every minute and would love to sync even more often than an hour. That's why the option "Sync Now" was added, for those status freaks :)

Nice idea Scorpius. Although I'm (still) a very passive user of Yappari, I find version 0.0.17 to be just fine for my purposes.

Regarding the smart sync: now with 0.0.17 I've discovered that some of my "inactive" contacts (stored just for reference but not "friends" as such) actually use Whatsapp (or Yappari, who knows :)

I'd like to have full sync when starting Yappari (or every 24h, because I keep it always open), and then a selective sync every X hours or on-demand.

The selective sync would allow me to mark confirmed contacts with whom I expect to actually have contact, i.e. those from whom I might be interested in having an updates status of.

Keep up the good work!

PS: I guess I'm a very passive user, but I haven't noticed any lags or undue memory consumption with this release.

that would be great, I was about to suggest almost the same, I care about bw and battery usage and I can care less about people's statuses. If it were for me, I could live with just manual sync, or maybe automatic updates once a week in case I added some contacts and forgot to sync manually.

reinob I also was suprised when I sync'd my contacts. I would expected it from my close friends, but what amazed me is that people from work and customers with very high positions in several companies use it. I think it's replacing Blackberry Messenger, which is very used in my country in corporations.

Also I found that around 98% of my contacts use Whatsapp, even older people that I wouldn't even imagined they knew how to use a cell phone...

Can you run Yappari manually (type in terminal: /usr/bin/Yappari) and then click on Create Chat and paste me the last few lines? Because it's very weird that it crashes like that.

Yes i have a lot of "free (as in freedom) software" contacts but most of them don't use whatsapp. The friends who use it don't care if the Android of his phones is GNU/linux or whatever and none of them paid anything yet (some of them won't do because they refuse to pay a cent for a service worse than others free).

Re: [Announce] Yappari - A WhatsApp client for the N900 ONLY - v0.0.17

"Security by Default" queried all Spanish numbers, it's not like you can download a user list. It's not the same.

But it's safe to say that 1/4 of your WHOLE country uses Whatsapp, and the smartphone penetration of your country is like 44%. That means about half of the people that have a smartphone in your country uses Whatsapp.

And that's just your country. Actually more than half of the people in the world that have a smartphone uses Whatsapp. A lot of people have paid. Maybe spanish people don't like to pay, but a lot of people paid.

I know you're afraid to query, but I bet you: +90% of your (mobile) contacts use Whatsapp.

And yeah this is turning a little bit off topic here.

it crashes only if sync is not finished ( only few seconds after being logged in during synchroization ) so I have to wait

Still, could you do what Scorpius asked you to do? This way he might be able to fix the bug, if there is one.

tonypower88 that log says "User quit the application" that means you clicked on "Quit"...

Acurus_ you need to upload your log somewhere and give me the
link.

There's an awful lot of people getting that fail-too-many registration message, I think Whatsapp Inc is making an effort to block unofficial clients.

Acurus_ 2012-07-24 18:30

Re: [Announce] Yappari - A WhatsApp client for the N900 ONLY - v0.0.17

Thanks for your advice. How to create a "log"?

Edit: Okay, I have the log and will upload it for you. You will get a message. Thanks.

Acurus_ 2012-07-24 19:13

Re: [Announce] Yappari - A WhatsApp client for the N900 ONLY - v0.0.17

I have seen, that there are a lot of private datas inside the log. Therefore I used the strong way: I uninstalled Yappari and removed every Yappari file from the N900, which has been left. Then I installed Yappari .16, again. Now I am at the point of trying to register and get the massage "Too many registration attemps. Please try again later."

Scorpius 2012-07-24 19:32

Re: [Announce] Yappari - A WhatsApp client for the N900 ONLY - v0.0.17

I needed the full log. Now it's too late. I needed to read what were the errors that you were getting *before* you got the "too many registration attempts".

Anyway if you're getting that error means that you'll be unable to register and you've been temporarily banned from Whatsapp. Some people say you'll get that for a whole month, though I haven't personally tested it.

Re: [Announce] Yappari - A WhatsApp client for the N900 ONLY - v0.0.17

You won't see any of that in the next update, sorry. The next update will be a decent release for contact synchronization and hopefully open chats persistence.

Remember we don't have a documentation of the Whatsapp protocol. Each feature, even if it's really silly, needs to be hacked and that takes a lot of time... It's not like "oh I run Wireshark and I can see how it's done", specially uploading multimedia pictures to servers, that's like the most secure thing Whatsapp has.

Do you send a version string to the server like Wazapp?

Of course, but that's only sent during log in, not during registration, and I don't use that one. Yappari spoofes an iPhone, not a Symbian phone.

I have a STRONG feeling that the registration method Yappari uses (and maybe Wazapp) is now blocked and nobody else can register anymore. Time will tell...

EDIT: Actually I have made some tests myself and I think it's safe to say the Yappari registration is now blocked and no new users might be able to register anymore.

Anyway I knew this day would come. Eventually Yappari won't be able to log in anymore as well.

Do you think spoofing a Symbian phone might be a safer option?
AFAIK, iPhone users have to pay for WhatsApp up front on iTunes, whereas Symbian and Android users get to use WhatsApp free for a year, then only have to pay.

Perhaps they have been able to detect spoofing an iPhone as there have been registrations without corresponding purchases on iTunes. It may be harder to tell a real Symbian from a spoofed Symbian.

I tried spoofing several other devices and with a new fresh number, IMEI and IP address I get fail-too-many in the first try to it's obvious they have changed something in the registration process since that forced update several days ago.

The reason I spoof iPhone is because the server pings the client and the connection is way more stable. If I set the device to Android or Symbian the client must ping the server and the server doesn't send a response (but if you don't ping you get disconnected)

i already registered and whatsapp is working fine! what about other users? How can they register now? If you can't make yappari register, continuing development is a waste of your time.

May you please share your ideas about what will happen next.

It seems new users can't register. They should try with 0.0.16 though but I think nobody else can register.

I don't know what will happen now, it was very hard to hack the registration the first time, and this time will be harder.
