Please try moblin or the "real" MeeGo on a netbook or WeTab OS (=meego) and tell us if you really think Nokia could have "finished" that in 12 months? In my opinion buggy and totally NOT end-user ready. If you compare it to distributions like Debian and Ubuntu I think it is years and years behind.
Starting a distribution from scratch isn't trivial, and I don't believe Nokia or Intel were up to the task.

I'm interested to see what nokia will do with the time between announcement and release. I'm also intrested to see if nokia can contribute to windows 8 and if they can differentiate from the other vendors. Also rumors of higher license cost will give a higher price than android and possibly even Ipad.

So many interesting questions, I'm not sad about meltimi because we don't know what, how and when to see it.

Focus on the future and forget the past.

I have to agree. WP8, it better be good. It has to be like a modernized version of Symbian. All the cool hardware stuff mixed with a fluent UI. If it's not like that, then Android is better and Nokia is gone before Christmas.

I agree, 12mth would've been quite unlikely, hence what I said.
I have played with MeR/Nemo (& before that MeeGoCE).
I'm aware of what the 1st and subsequent builds were like.
I'm talking up to 20-months extra with FULL FOCUS...
Instead of losing pretty-much all resources around Feb 11'.
With up to 4x Maemo6x devices to ensure some momentum before then.
But it's all would've/could've/should've now, time to move on.

Agreed on that....

I doubt that, but it is in big trouble shortly after then.

Microsoft launched "Surface" tablet. No involvement of Nokia. After hearing the news, I lost my last hope on Nokia. Only a Miracle can save Nokia.

Miracle: Nokia's new Linux-based OS with a name beginning with "M". You heard it here first.

A little off topic - but thought it's worth a post:

Elop needs security guards to escort him home!

Yes, his decisions are sooooooooooooo good, that he needs protection to get home....

Does this sound like something is wrong here?

(Please use Google translate). The main thing is that Nokia rejected many many projects, not only Meltemi. Only S40 is left in Oulu.

Lay off workers, hire bodyguards.

Tomorrow Elop will do some CFO math then fire 2 more people to counteract the 2 guards he hired. After doing so he would realise that he just added 2 more to the angry mob and hire more bodyguards to counteract it. Elop logic.

Elop will soon send out a secret memo of a burning platform to all nokia employees left. The problem is what OS he will turn to next...
