Forget about meltimi, nokia and sad news. Focus on Euro12.

Re: Sad news; Nokia apparently killed Meltemi
Here's what happens when Microsoft buys a large corporation:
http://www.businessinsider.com/micro...-so-far-2011-5 TLDR: MS has a history of purchasing companies for large sums of money only to destroy all that value with mismanagement and incoherent strategy. So if MS releases its own branded tablet on Monday (http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/15/w...let-on-monday/), how does Nokia fit into those plans? Nokia has admitted before that they will be coming out with their own tablet. |

Maybe they'll be dumb enough to sell to Samsung who may actually DO something with it? But more likely they'll hold onto their proprietary Trolltech/Qt-related goodies & shelve em. Plus w00t's already made a very good point that it still has a future with RIM & others. Sure Nokia dropping out will have a big impact initially, but no doubt the slack will be quickly taken-up |

Qt will survive as long as KDE has a significant user base. Nokia will survive as either a division or puppet of M$. But RIM is already toast, another Palm.

First he's saying not MeeGo based, but then he goes on to describe it as MeeGo based: "OpenSUSE based + QT on top" All the hints/rumours we've had, have pointed towards a stripped-down cousin of M-H. It just sounds like some random on the internetz venting his rage. |

They weren't reinventing the wheel with Meltemi, thankfully they didn't need to, it was heavily based around work they'd done for Qt/Harmattan. Quote:

I can report that Ukraine vs France 0-0. Great game so far no shoots on goal and no nokia commercial what so ever. Samsung is everywhere.

I know software dev. takes time, but still... @abill_uk Its difficult to believe that things were going so bad, I mean the N9 is a compelling product after all. Also besides selling the company to MS they could have tried Android, its not that shareholders are gonna get much for their money now, is it? ok, back to football :) |

To have it delivered by then is not bad at all in the scheme of things. WP7x was almost covering the top of the low end, & was probably set to go a bit lower. And Sonic Touch was starting to cover the bottom end very nicely. The rumours were pointing to 1st announcement for Meltemi in Q4, so Q1 may make sense. |

Re: Sad news; Nokia apparently killed Meltemi
I'm gonna do my best to be positive, it ain't actually the end of Nokia yet. Nokia hasn't been bought by a competitor, Nokia hasn't filed bankruptcy and Nokia hasn't declared that they hate mobile Linux distros and will never develop one again. If any or all of those things happens then the puking uncontrollably will commence. I still think has a bright future just not anytime in the next 12 months.

I didn't realise they cover other platforms, not ONLY WP... Could be home for many of us in the future, once TMO's shelved :( Maybe I'll become a serial pest for Lumiaman @WPCentral. Karma's a *****..... :D |

Re: Sad news; Nokia apparently killed Meltemi
Qt has existed for years, it's not going away. Besides, Nokia will be Nokia for a loooong time. MS purchasing Nokia is just FUD.
Relax, be happy :) |

Warning to any company planning to collaborate/partner with Microsoft. They are the vultures of the IT world. They will kill your company within few years. Novell, Microsoft partnership brought down Novell. By partnering with Microsoft, opensource crowd hated Novell. Microsoft acted like they were selling SuSE licenses to their customers. The only intention for Microsoft was to kill the Linux. They did a wonderful job by partnering with Novell and confusing and dividing the Linux community. The is the old divide and rule methodology used by the West for ages. They are doing the same thing here. Nokia was very close with its N9 OS to be a very competitive Linux option. It is is a threat to M$. They know that like Apple desktop share increase after iPhone, a successful Linux mobile platform can really threaten the Windows desktop market. They don't really care about WP. If you look at the various eFlop announcements, we will see that he also successfully confused the entire Linux community. We Linux lovers are all confused. I am pretty sure, Microsoft will announce next week that they are the one who purchased the patents from Nokia for an undisclosed amount (<1B). Then in the next few weeks or months Nokia will be sold (for few million). In our heart, we are all sad that a great opportunity to finally have an open Linux platform for mobile devices was killed by Microsoft. I loved Qt, I will be very sad if they kill also. I am confident that no Microsoft or Nokia can stop us continuing to work hard to move forward with our dream. If they drop/kill Qt, I am sure someone will fork it and we will have what we need. So, no worries. If not Nokia, someone else will come. RIP NOKIA ***** Dividing People **** Maybe in the future, we can just buy a mobile phone with no OS and can load our favorite Linux OS. SuSE or CentOS or what ever distribution. Look at the bright side, then we will be able to fight which distribution is best on mobile phones. I am confident we will never stop. That is in our blood. |
