Bluetooth 4 / low energy N9

So bluetooth 4 may be coming :

The INdT is responsible for the
implementation for the BlueZ Bluetooth
4.0, Bluetooth protocol stack used in the
Linux operating system, also used in the
Nokia N9. The Low Energy Bluetooth for
the Nokia N9 is still in experimental stage. The study, begun in the second half
of 2010, is underway with the addition of
new features (Bluetooth Profiles).

Quick update :

I e-mailed them and asked a clarification and their reply was :
we are not able to
open some information regarding to this
technology on Nokia devices, yet.

And I found that they edited the original post and removed anything related to the N9

before it was :O INdT é responsável pela implementação
do Bluetooth 4.0 para o BlueZ, pilha de
protocolos Bluetooth usada no sistema
operacional Linux, também utilizada no
Nokia N9. O Bluetooth Low Energy para o
Nokia N9 ainda está em fase experimental. O trabalho, iniciado na
segunda metade de 2010, está em
andamento com a adição de novas
funcionalidades (Bluetooth Profiles).

Thats interesting. I thought that for using BT 4.0 a new BT chip is needed to support low energy profile? How can this be on N9 (the HW specs says its BT 2.1)?

the bluetooth chip support bluetooth 4 but the software is limited to 2.1

Re: Bluetooth 4 / low energy N9

Are there any worthwhile BLE devices widely available yet? A quick product search only comes up with a heart monitor, a watch and a whole lot of host-side adaptors.

The chipset's always had the potential to support it...
There was lots of info. floating around last yr suggesting it was well advanced.
Sadly it never materialised....

Doesn't the iP4S support BLE?
There should be lots of accessories for it by now or in the pipeline.
I personally am most interested in watches.

If you use NitDroid, then you will see BT version 3.0 or so.

I wonder when they are able to be more forthright about what (if anything) is happening?

It's quite safe to assume, that its never coming to N9 officially. As phone is already on feature freeze and in maintenance mode and there is nobody left in house for doing bluetooth certification for 4.0 (which takes huge amount of resources).

Ofcourse someone might someday compile 4.0 Bluez themselves, and incept into the device as com.nokia.maemo.
