Re: Adobe: No Flash for You, Android 4.1

What makes it a bigger bummer to me, I installed the latest Jellybean 4.1 OTA ROM, and god, just god, Jellybean is the best Android OS ever released. Project Butter just makes iOS crap it's pants off.

A Galaxy Nexus + bootloader-unlocked + rooted + CWM + flashed with deodexed insecure 4.1 + Franco kernel equipped + 1.67GHz MPU + 512MHz GPU + SiO + the fact that I got it, brand new, for 325$ = Ohmyinserteveryholyimageinhere.

BUT - Regarding the fact that Flash is one of the key-selling points of Android, what could possibly happen now that Flash got obliterated?

Re: Adobe: No Flash for You, Android 4.1

Windows and IE explorer will support flash for long even if IE isn't the best when it comes to flash. flash for andorid is one of the great things so you can watch videos in the browser. Too few using great html5 today.

I think it should be up to the users to decided what to use. Me at least will go with windows tablet so I CAN what flash when I need to until all services support htlm5 in a great way.

who cares ?
Android is way too boring and if flash goes away ,they gonna go away or perhaps alternatives might get a chance to poke in.

I still haven't precisely known why exactly Adobe wants to cut Flash. I have Flash 11 installed on Jellybean and it works just as fine.

My problem is that there is still soooooo much flash content on the web, and to have non-flash-supporting OS's creates a frustrating experience when you encounter that content. The number one priority is that mobile users have access to mobile content--that's the entire point. So long as the content is flash, the devices and software need to be able to play flash on demand.

See, that is the point, once mobile users have no access to flash ads, flash will fade away in a couple months, as web will change in such a way, that it will allow those ads to reach their destination. And flash on desktop will be shortly to follow, as no sane website will keep two different sets of ads - one for desktop and one for mobile, if latter is supported on desktop too.

At least that is how I see it :)

I have a Nexus and I've installed everything but Flash. I'm living the dream.

Superior ways find its way to the users. If they are superior. It's like Android devices isn't released for several months and let windows or something else a chance.

That is not how it should work.

Everything moves to HTML5, one general platform available for the whole, finally?

Re: Adobe: No Flash for You, Android 4.1

4.1 doesn't (officially) support Flash.
However, they've been saying the latest plugin (4.0.3+) works on 4.1 flawlessly.

So I guess Flash isn't dead. And the next iteration of (major, not incremental) Android would certainly break compatability. Though I guess there will be some sort of open-source effort which might bring it back.

However, that will be a short lived feature, afterwards its certainly gone for good.
The only way you'd be able to have Flash after that, is if a reputable company (Opera/Firefox) actually incorporates it into their App: web browser. It would be clunky for most things, but online videos may still work.

I'm good not having Flash, as long as no other being has it as well :P

I'm not so confident that the migration away from flash will be so quick or so smooth for all websites. Take restaurants for example. They have a hard enough time keeping their websites up and current. Are they really going to be on top of this transition? Even xvideos.com has mostly flash content--what of that!?

I've surfed with my iPad2 with no flash, and there are noticeable problems accessing content due to lack of flash. But, in the end, my attitude is, “Thou art not paid for thy methods, but rather for thy results.” So long as I can see the content I want, and block the content I don't want, I'm good to go.

im wondering how many people will hold back from upgrading if flash became unstable for jelly bean especially if you cant access your favorite website that got flash content.

And used for what exactly?

I have it installed and update it when required but i have no idea what it is good for. On Android specifically, that is.

You can run apps(html, javascript or flash) in its own runtime for different platforms. My point to bring up air is that it might still slow down the total removal of flash apps.

Edit:you might have some other app that require air.

It seems it is not only for Android, they also say on their website for any Linux computer they wont support Flash beyond version 11.2.

I just found on the BBC website that i cant watch Wimbledon on my N9 as it says that my Flash player is outdated. That's sad news, as I have been watching some footy matches of the Euro cup on my phone when i was far from a computer/tv. A solution is much needed.

My Color Guide, google it on the Play Store, it needs Air to run.
