It is in the forefront of our news here on the B.C. coast.
Normal behavior ....among many species... It is how conscious beings mourn. Sad? I do not think so. Heart breaking for us out here ...yes... heart breaking that she needs comfort and closure like anyone does ...but it isn't happening yet... many think it odd that she is behaving this way... but it is no different than a mother or father whose grief has overwhelmed here from a catastrophe , waking about in the streets , carrying their dead child. Same hurt inside, just a different body. Empathetic DT wouldn't have given a royal **** about the situation...frankly.. |

Ah starship troopers was a good fun take on alien war...
Heinlein did a fun job with it... But frankly.... up among one of the best ....right up there with what is considered the finest and studied in military actually is the "Forever War" books. Dealing with the ramifications of fighting a civilization a vast distance away... and what both civilizations go through in the process... Very very well done. Another truly truly good read is "Armor" by John Steakley https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...ginalCover.gif If you want fighting alien "bug" civilizations... It beats Starship Troopers ...it beats many military scifi ....cold. It is in my Top 10 of military scifi. It is just that good. It doesn't just deal with the fight...the logistics of war on planets that have little to no atmosphere for humans... It also deals with the politics of war and military, the madness of a military structure that doesn't understand exactly what the issues on the ground are.....and the psychological ramifications... The tech involved...in the plot...the individuals in question involved that gravitate around the central figure of one man... all of it effectively in writing style puts your head...in one of those suits...looking out...dealing with it all... The effect is exceptionally well done. A movie of this book would take the box office . I reread it once every couple of years... It is one of "those" kind of good reads... I also have the audio book ...not as good as reading it though. |

the read is better than any audio...
something is lost in the audio... I think a movie would do the book justice...since the special effects nowaday could render it well enough... But the book... the lines....the feeling...it demands good acting...that it s the quandary... |

You may need to look around at other torrent providers...if these ones are old. The plot is interestingly done...since it goes from past to present ...back and forth throughout the book...leading inexorably to the conclusion. In the present on a distant outpost planet a research military team has set up base to quietly study methods to win the war ....away from the war...a severely beaten "suit" they acquire. They have figured out how to tap into the residual suit memory... the downside is...the equipment needs a human interface to compensate for feedback and proper recording.. This means the research team wires in and experiences everything from day one chronologically that the specific soldier for that specifically designed armor goes through...every time he must put the armor on for combat missions... They have no idea what he looks like...nor exactly what he is thinking...but extreme emotion does feedback ...as well as visual recording to those wired in... Once out of the suit ...the recordings cease until the next time the soldier must put it on...then the recording recommences... So the plot bounces back and forth chronologically....but the author has not done this pell mell ...he segregates it well. It is a good read. |

Ants... So many ants... Felix is the perfect hero. The perfect fighting machine. If ever there were a character whose sole being , whose body and psyche was just meant for weaponry such as this armor... It is Felix. And he has no hope. He doesn't believe. He has nothing else. He has no reason to live. and yet he just keeps going. His despair is palpable. He is completely terrified, and even though friends comrades and people may be around him ...is so completely alone. His saving grace is one thing he's got that those around him don't...(which I won't spoil) and the effect ...and the price... well... |

audio is probably better for you then ...Dave....
The book...well...when I first picked it up... I couldn't put it down... I had to know...(like the researchers in the plot say... :D) I burned through it in a day... then reread it again...a few times... Now I read it once every few years...it never gets stale. When I first heard the audio... I just couldn't get into it... I had my own imagination filling in the spoken words for so long... I just couldn't sit down to listen... you may have an easier time of it with the audio... but it just doesn't convey the book as well as the written word did... In my opinion. |

well...torrents....what few there are...for the audio...have zero seeds...it appears...
I just checked them... checked a few other places I know that I expected to see the audio...and nothing... it is getting more and more difficult to get older stuff...(not that this is old...) Just that I have found increasingly...that what I have in my vault.. One just cannot find in the torrents anymore... Well....I found a pdf of the book on casual hunting through my own vault... and I know if I dig through it I will find the audio somewhere... It will take time though.. |
