^Yeah been in the US for about 1mth now, but not open slather availability in the retail channel, locked into only one major (& by all accts 2nd-tier) retailer.
But like many regional Nokia websites where the N9 & Lumias are offered, the N9's almost totally hidden from view, & geared as "the perfect business partner".
All which combines to seem like a clear attempt to marginalise it even further... Not that it even matters, given how late it was made available...
Still, at least it IS officially available there now, better than nothing... I guess....

Re: N9 PR1.3 by end of May'12

From Nokioteca.net:

As reported in an email from the Nokia Support (see here) Marxian sent to the user, application author cuteTube, soon to be released a new firmware update for the Nokia N9. If history will be respected so far used, the update should be numbered 1.3 and PR will bring improvements and innovations to the system that are currently unknown.
PR 1.3 firmware update for the Nokia N9 we had already discussed in this article several months ago, bringing you a tweet from the Director of the applications in Nokia Meego that had defined as "a small but useful (and valuable) update."
Most likely this update will not be the only device that will improve the functionality of the one of Nokia Meego. Recently, in fact, we at InsanelyMac we had a tip from a head of Nokia Italy informed us that the existence of the firmware in question but also that numbered PR 1.4.
Apparently Nokia will continue to support the device for a long time, despite all the resources are now directed almost exclusively to the device with Windows Phone Lumia. To demonstrate this, there is also a new page dedicated to the Nokia N9 on the Nokia U.S. site (see here) that could suggest a possible commercialization overseas.

used GT, but it's pretty accurate
The French blog just borrows the info from the italian source above

Re: haven't received pr1.3 update... yet!!

They only needed Nokia to get one vendor to get phones into the major markets. Samsung had Wp7 and Android, but they weren't "committed" to WP7. But give a company $10B and they can move some handsets. Nokia did this by not selling the N9 in major markets.

Microsoft has tons of money still and they of course farm it out. I don't get why Nokia 808 announcement has to compete with the MS tablet announcement but they did.

Maybe Elop isn't as cozy with MS as we thought? LOL.

Yes it does. The document viewer can display a lot.

Now, try viewing a PDF on a Lumia. You can do it with Acrobat Reader, but that is really buggy software... no fun.

Thanks for that....
Smells like FUD to me, why would a "head" at Nokia Italy know about PR1.4, it's not even a N9 country.*
With all the recent announcements, PR1.3's looking shaky let alone PR1.4, highly doubtful IMO.
Sounds nice, but far too unrealistic...

*It was one of the original Lumia launch countries that the N9 was excluded from.

Don't kid yourself.
808 has been released in the USA as a means of Nokia spruiking the camera hardware, in preparation for it being used in their Lumia line-up.

I wouldn't be surprised if Nokia World has a MeeGo device announced with the same agenda as the N9. ;)

N9 support was added to the Nokia Suite:
http://mynokiablog.com/2012/06/20/no...users-rejoice/

Apparently Nokia hasn't abandoned the MeeGo unicorn completely!:D This can only be good news in regards to the existence of PR 1.3.

Honestly. If a new Maemo/Meego/Meltemi device was announced anytime soon, or even within the next few months or whatever.

I would literally **** my pants.

I would save my pennies for it, but first would need to replace my pants. It is literally the last thing I am expecting.

This "N10" (I like the term "NX" ) would... I dunno... be any good? It might be.

The Nokia Nseries model X. Shortened to NX.

One can only dream...

Of course just to troll, it would run Harmattan, PR1.3

Yes they fired the entire Maemo/Harmattan/Meltemi team and all of a sudden Nokia will release a Maemo/Harmattan/Meltemi phone out of the blue...

Ok, yeah keep dreaming.

forget the current Lumias, they were only good for some "beta-testing"...incomplete OS, infantile issues...
but reading about WP8 and its intended capabilities makes me think a little further...
I´m wondering what´ll be the mulititasking like on WP8...
if it´s solid enough on some "Lumia 1000" hardware with HD screen, dual-core CPU and PureView camera I guess I might actually give it a shot...

Even if it is half decent.....
I'm not going to back a strategy that killed any chance for Maemo/MeeGo/Meltemi/Qt.
At this point, I'd buy a WP8 phone from anyone BUT Nokia...
But I'm not convinced that WP8 is even close (overall) to iOS6 & Jelly Bean yet.
Sure there'll be areas that it's stronger, but on-balance I suspect that it'll STILL lose the feature count.
But there needs to be way more comparative analysis, it's far too early to say anything w/certainty.

The only thing they do at this point is use offline maps.

Had apple been smart it would have licensed Nokia maps from Nokia and then apple would have owned a major share of international markets too.

Apple's getting TomTom to provide the data framework (similar to what Navteq does for Nokia).
Plus they now own some tech from another mob, which Nokia licensed for it's 3D maps.

Well either way.

Nokia alienated most of it's loyal customers with its recent moves.

I asked a good friend about the update who works for a big media company which also sells Nokia N9s. He usually has a lot of contact with carriers and knew a lot about PR1.2 in advance. But the only thing he knew was that PR1.3 "might" arrive. So Nokia keeps it doors closed - to their right ;)

Btw: At the same company a sales person told me that Lumia phones can upgrade to WP8 and will be able to run any Windows 8 application :D So yeah...

Best is to let PR1.3 be a surprise, whatever it brings...
