I wonder how the folks with a N900 are still doing in regards to waiting for a Nokia derived PR1.4 upgrade. Did get PR1.3.1 though... but not 1.4.

I hope this PR1.3 update won't break any apps. With developers moving away to other platforms any broken apps may never be fixed like Open Video player.

Lol so in other words like the unholy Roman Empire, Nokia will collapse? Thanks WP for the nail in the coffin, and thanks Lumiaman for the constant smear on the community.
You might also want to draw the parallels between the Roman Empire and your unholy homeland, troll.

Hey, hey... hey!

Like all empires, companies and even cultures, they all rise and fall. Just like the Dutch, the Spanish and the British... but they're all still around in one way or another yet.

It's ok. As an American, tired of being seen as imperialistic when honestly I'd rather be back to our old isolationist days before Pearl Harbor and World Wars...

Back to stocks. I still want a printed NOK stock certificate for the cheap.

edit - crap, wrong thread. PR1.3 is coming, nothing more.

Speculation:
1) Browser's toolbar moved to bottom of screen.
2) Important bug fixes for fenix/MfE
3) Call UI-related improvements.

I remember reading Qt5 will never be pre-loaded in Symbian and Harmattan.

Re: N9 PR1.3 by end of May'12

Pr1.3 is the end. It was the last for the N900, and will be the last for the N9. In other words, the N9 and Maemo/MeeGo is now officially dead.

I follow sales statistics as one important indicator. I tell you, the N9 has been dead for months already. Nokia will wrap up all Maemo/Meego activity this summer.

Maybe the big suprise will be, that Nokia gives the community all closed source parts as open sourced parts. :D

Then MeeGo will not be dead. ;)

Old, I am old, but not dead - yet :D

Enthusiasm is a good thing, but enthusiasm over dead things is, well not very attractive. The N9 stopped selling sometime late January, early February. After that it has been zero, I mean a 4 digit number in the Entire European continent, even with ridiculous price drops. The Lumia 800 is even worse. It started off much cheaper, had loads of PR, sold maybe 1-1.5 million units and now it is complete stop there as well. With the new Sony devices running on dual core U8500 on the shelves (cheap, but very attractive, ultra fast and selling like hot cakes), HTC One X/S (To date maybe the best phones ever to be produced using any standard) and soon a new King, the SGSIII. The Lumia 900 has no chance in hell. It will be DOA literally. The iPhone 5 will come this fall as well.

What has that got to do with Maemo? It's the end of Nokia smartphone business, and the doors will be closed. Maemo/MeeGo doors will go first. I doubt we will even see Pr 1.3.

PR 1.3 (or 1.4) might be the end of Nokia's support.
But won't be the end of N9.

Just look at the N900's milestones. They never stopped. This little device keeps on impressing us thanks mostly to programmers here at TMO.

You are clearly deluded.... Nokia has been around since the late 1800's, as much as nothing lasts forever, they'll reinvent themselves after this. After 15 years of being the #! mobile phone brand, they're not going to drop off the face of the earth and not produce another phone. That's just silly

I'd be happy with some small bug/feature fixes:

1. GMail touch interface in default browser. This would just take a chat with Google Gmail dev team...
2. Easier editing in form input fields including google search box
3. Send as different email address in gmail account
4. Album cover download in music player
5. Better podcast support including searching different feeds
6. Profiles, instead of: Silent, Beep, Ringing. Offline, Silent, Beep, Ring Only (sms silent), Ringing

All I really want is bug fixes and overall system improvements, like better battery management and quicker transitions. I find the battery life horrible, cannot make it through the day without charging. A welcomed improvement would be the native twitter and facebook apps UI, the email client too. They might include toggle widgets, and also the drop down tray could have more options. These and many more would make the N9 sweet. Oh yea, maybe the processor speed get's an increase to 1.2 or 1.3 ghz.

if you want to overclock your cpu you can do that, but it would be stupid and irresponsible to do it part of an update, first for anything past 1.15ghz smart reflex needs to be disabled, and then more voltage is needed and what about those chips that just can't handle an increase?

You must be doing something wrong. Very wrong.
With regular usage I still get at least 20 hours of battery life out of it. The longest was four days with mild usage.

They did that in belle devices (1.0 to 1.3Ghz) also in Moto Milestone XT720 (550 to 720Mhz). The Moto has the same SoC as the N900 I think.

yes but am pretty certain they tested it pretty intensively didn't they? while were pretty sure not all chips can reach 1.3

also battery life for me generally lasts my day, about 8 hours, all i've got is 30min check on feed and facebook, and a lot of 3G and wifi with the odd call and lots of text. also full brightness

Regular usage, yes, but with data on it takes a toll. emails, twitter, facebook, gtalk, etc, battery life is not stellar

The sooner it dies the sooner CSSU can begin !

But before they kill it off they should 'open' Maemo and Harmattan so CSSU can explode

CSSU can already begin, have you ever heard of open kernel mode? so no need to kill N9 support for that reason.

Remember Nokia 311 entered FCC around mid april? ;)

Lets say:

* PR1.3 for N9 gets released around end of May

and also:

* Nokia311 announced end of May with Meltemi/Qt that would be epic win :D

(yes I should stop dream :(

You're definitely dreaming :)
There are changes in next billion project (for the good) that might affect the schedule. I don't know why it takes forever to launch Meltemi, they supposedly have fewer components to work with. I would be surprised to hear anything official from NOK before end of June...

How I wish NOK could embrace developers like RIM is doing with BB10 long before the devices are out.

I am not arguing, I just said it has been done before, and that many things leave the testbed not-so-well tested. So it is not impossible that it will happen. Not that I want it. I think the N9 is fast enough.when it's not misbehaving. Even the N900 is ok with 600mhz. It's the lack.of ram that kills it.
