So Meego is not dead?

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

Meego as a project is dead. Meego as an effort is not - it's continued in new projects (Mer, Nemo and others).

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

So why did they have to announce it when jollas meego don't have anything to do with nokia meego?

I say meego is dead!

and jolla is sleeping!

Why not come up with the name of the OS atleast.

When you announce stuff, you shall have somthing to show, dates, movies, facts or other stuff. They are acting like amatures. Lets hope de device is better than their moves so far :)

I don't see anything wrong with their current moves. They are just playing it careful at the end of the year they will announce the phone. Once everything is done and set they will be able to answer all the questions that we have but to this date they don;t want to make any empty promises or say anything that they are currently unsure of

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

It's not wrong since they can do as they want. It's their company and their plan.

but its wrong if they want to riding on the waves they creating by announce their "meego continue" stuff.

There might be a reason why the most successfull mobile companies announce and release almost at the same time. Just saying. Its all about waves and momentum.

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

momentum is the word here Dave :p

Anyway what I think has happened was that seeing the outpouring of people not wanting to let MeeGo die (especially after the messages on twitter post-pr1.3) led them to hastily announce that they are coming up with a product...

I thought Apple has patented rectangle with rounded corners, so maybe add some s&m spikes to the four corners.

btw, now when US court has confirmed Apple has a valid patent for pinch-to-zoom, and I've read Apple refuses to license "untouchable" patents which makes "unique user experience", then is Jolla going to use cw- and ccw-screwing like N900 for zooming?

Well, one of the "untouchable" patents is a method how to know if there is a single- or multitouching currently on the touchscreen, and Apple and the court decided Samsung has no right to distinguish between the two.

This will only affect US, not the rest of the world. So jolla can dance around the world with an amazing new mobile device and pinch zoom like crazy. I doub't apple care what jolla does, It's not like they are samsung ;)

If those big ashole corporations (nokia included) continues those patent FUD there is no chance jolla get a chance on this shitty so called free capitalism world. The geekphone era is over. The future will probadly look like this:

you have to go buy some wp ashole device and wipe it out and tweak it to run linux or buy an shitty ios device.

Android? Nope it will slowly die to when micronokia start theyr patent nasty war next year, and samsung will go microsoft too...

call me a troll but
history has shown before :(

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

Teksyndicate ran a contest about a month ago that if anyone can name something Apple invented they would get a prize. They made a video and put it up on youtube. In that video they disprove many of the entries sent in, one of which was "pinch to zoom."
The other thing is Nokia has a buttload of patents, they spent an enormous amount on R&D so I'm pretty sure they wont try pulling that one on Nokia because Nokia would expose how it is really prior art.
I haven't read that multi touch patent but I'm guessing it's not for resistive screens which is a possibilty that Jolla might use it since they will release in China. That said, if I was in a dinghy and their was great whites nearby dueling I'd be kinda nervous.

Apple invented Galaxy Not. Will not be announced tomorrow ;)

Does jolla have any patents at all?

Nokia did give a handful of patents to Jolla. but it was never published as to what patents they were.

It sparked the idea that maybe Nokia and Jolla are a secret link. Jolla being their backup if WP8 doesnt take off and bombs. Possibliy a way to get around the contract they signed stopping them from making phones with other Os's

I personally have no problem with the whole Apple patents brouhaha. Steve Jobs did a miraculous job on "dumbing-down" the smart phone, to the point where it now has no buttons at all, and the only thing the user can do is finger-paint on it. The touchscreen may seem like a cool approach to a user interface, but it also subtly locks the user into being merely a consumer of information, never a producer.

The rest of the cell phone industry has blindly rushed down the rabbit hole right behind Apple. The jury really was right -- the whole world now is filled with iPhones and iPhone wannabes. These corporations needed a good smack in the side of the head to remind them that Apple's way is not the only possible way to design products. Stuff like pinch-to-zoom is popular because Apple made it popular, not because it is necessarily the best way to do things.

Right now, I don't see _anyone_ trying to actually compete with Apple. The default response seems to be what Nokia did -- just give up, dump your entire internal R&D department, and license the latest iOS clone from Microsoft or Google. Maybe if Apple wins enough patent cases, somebody will get the hint and go back to designing a device that isn't an iPhone. :)

I really doubt they'll use a resistive screen if they want to reach any kind of mass market, plus in China/Shenzen you have to choice of a capacitive or resistive with a slight difference in price.

Lets hope for a cool marketing campain.

I want the device to sail from finland to china, and release a new movie and a new thing about the device every day until you get the complete picture the last day. And on the way I want the jolla ship to sink other ships sailed by android, iphone and windows phones.

Apple: "all your patents are belong to us".
I hope Jolla will come up with a great design, that Apple would love to copy ;)
Same for the UI !
It can be done...

Couldn't care less. Design and UI aren't important. I want to use the thing. It's not a painting that I buy for its beauty.

Please Jolla convince your parts suppliers to license this.
http://www.gizmag.com/ultrathin-flat...harvard/23890/

And then include wine for windows phone 8 and ACL for android and then with QT and html5 you can say,
"all your markets and devs are belong to us":D

Just pretend your little dingy is a space ship and you're playing galaga
against the big evil patent trolls and out smart them.
