is nokia n9 really better than samsung galaxy s2 and iphone 4? cause recently when i watch the review on youtube comparing this 3 phone, a lot commented that nokia n9 wins in term of performance and multitasking. i been using the n9 for the past 3 days and seriously i'm quite dissapointed with the phone. it's not like what many claim to be. it lags when i'm using the facebook and the user interface sucks. keep pressing the wrong stuff and the battery drain very fast esp when i'm playing games.even my iphone 3gs can last longer when playing games. the worst part is i only need to take less than 2 hour to fully charge my iphone and more than 3 hours plus to fully charge my nokia n9. just now i did a browser loading comparison between the iphone and the n9 after installing the faster n9 tweaks. like what i expected the iphone wins. it quite dissapointing that a nokia n9 with 1gb ram can be beaten by an iphone 3gs with 256mb of ram. even the zephyr tweak which is similar to n9 swiping which can be found on cydia wins hand down in term of smoothness. i dont get it when people commented that n9 wins hand down. i tried using the s2 and seriously n9 cannot be compared with s2. the s2 is on its league on it own and n9 is nowhere near there. i guess nokia has a lot to catch up.



anyway i did a comparison test with the following tweaks installed on the phone

iphone 3gs

webscrollian - improve the web scrolling smoothness (love this tweak) - seriously nokia developer should look into this tweak, and come out with a similar one for the nokia phone. the web scrolling smoothness is superb after installing this tweak on the iphone. can check it out on youtube. that what i called liquid scrolling.

zephyr - similar to n9 multitasking

I think a fairer test would be:
-Nokia N9 (PR 1.3)
-iPhone 4 (iOS 5.1)
-Samsung Galaxy S (AOKP build40)

Then compare battery life, overall speed and functions. Then comparison of accessories and physical hardware. And I mean the international SGS model, as the EPIC 4G (i9000) will run rings around them all with its qwertyboard, gamegripper and native Ubuntu.

if you look around the forums there are many ways to customize your n9 that would get rid of your perceived issues...

1) If you are having trouble with user interface for facebook there are apps like Sociality and fMobi that make it a joy to use...you can also access any sites using the browser and if you want it to load the same HTML5 version, you can simply search for "Easiest Way to Change User Agent on Stock Browser" and change it to whichever OS you want (i.e. iOS, Android)

2) Battery Life is very subjective, many people here will show you conclusive proof of it besting iPhone4 too so look around you may have some bugs...

3) Also my n9 charges in less than two hours using the wall plug...are using a usb port from a pc to charge? change it to a wall plug and you'll see the difference..

The n9 has always been known to be a DOA device yet you won't get a more passionate group of people like those at TMO for n9(00) devices...I for one wouldn't trade it for anything else and I know many here are the same...The multi-tasking is absolutely top-notch not to be rivalled by anyone except for the n900 and user interface in fact is the most easiest to use (swipe all day long)...

Anyway you may have your opinions and if you feel the n9 is useless for you sell it away i'm sure you can get takers right here too...

iPhone 3GS? WTF?
When I was buying my N9 I had a chance to use iPhone 4S for a week and I can tell you there was nothing to convince me the fruit is better, except for the AppStore, obviously...
and Siri? the concept is alright, but I see no real value off it other than using it with maps in car...which is out of question as iOS has no free offline maps whatsoever...maybe iPhone 5 with TomTom?
my gf has the iP 4S and everytime I pull out my N9 she begs me to let her play with it so she can swipe all day long:)
and SGS2? Honestly, I´ve never seen uglier smartphone than that...
N9 is HW-wise simply the sexiest phone out there (with Lumia 800, of course)

and you can trust me, I´m no damn Nokia fanboy, there´s just nothing what´d convince me to switch N9 for anything else...at the moment

i already did a comparison with the iphone 4 but somehow iphone still win. the reason why my iphone win is because of tweaks like webscrollian and zephyr installed on the iphone. and with the onboard home screen button that comes with the new ios 5.1.1 it makes the phone really smooth and fast. the n9 cant catch up with it eventhough i installed faster n9 on it. even my 3gs can match up to my expectation. the reason why i'm quite dissapointed with my n9 is because when i'm in a rush and need to access the internet, the n9 seem to takes it own time. and the scrolling part makes it even worse. i keep pressing the wrong stuff more on the n9 than the iphone. the only thing that make me impressed with the n9 is the gaming graphic. it's superb...

actually i'm now trying to install the android 4.03 ics but stuck at the sillyboot part. step 3. i downloaded the stuff but when i open it, it open up in winzip format. there 2 file on it when i extract, preinit and the evkey.. i dont know how to combine the two into one file.

the charging part, yup, i charge it up on the nokia wall charger but still take more than 3 hour. actually there another way to speed up the charging, i use samsung wall charger to charge the phone. super fast compared to my nokia charger to charge up.. :)

if you look through the nitdroid instructions, you should not be extracting sillyboot on your pc... transfer the archive to your phone (regardless of it being able to be opened using WinZip on your PC) and then work further..

everything else is just a rip-off...


Edit: on your point of the chargers, if your samsung charger can charge it faster it means the nokia charger is not in exactly good condition and not the device's fault...

Lol, u should try the jailbroken iphone.. It a different story once u tried it.. There a lot of tweaks u can use to customise the iphone. Personally i'm not a fan of apps store. Not much u can do wif it except to download games. Try using cydia.. I love that stuff. There a lot of repo u can add.. Can even hack it to download free games. Lol.. Dont look down on iphone 3gs. Eventhough it's an old model, it can still perform a lot better than many other new phones out there if u know how to tweak it.. Actually u can ask ur gf to install the zephyr tweak on the iphone if she wants the swiping function. It's similar to n9 swipe.. I myself am using that stuff on my iphone and loving it.. Soo smooth. :D u should try using an iphone with this tweak, webscrollian, zephyr, fakeclockup, sbsettings, kill background.. U will see a lot of difference once u use it..

i tried copying the file exactly like what the video said but my phone cant find the file..

my nokia charger quite new actually, still have the plastic layer on it. i tried using the iphone adaptor too to check wether my nokia charger spoil or not but the iphone charger is much more worse than the nokia charger. took 3-4 hours plus to fully charge. i guess my nokia charger is perfectly fine just that the samsung one is much more better. nw sticking to samsung charger to charge..

All those comparison stories... :rolleyes: Of course you can compare phones, but at the end it's important what the user likes most. I'm happy that we have the choice of different phones, because everyone has individual needs.

Before N9 i used iPhone4 and iPhone3G. Now I never, ever wanna go back to them - to me N9 is so much better and simplifies many things for me. The iPhone was pretty much unusable for me without jail-breaking and modifying the user-interface (plus installing many apps since the OS lacks many features). I also had much worse battery life with iPhones and there was always something which upset me.

The N9 excites me still as much as it did in the beginning. :cool:

My girlfriend uses Android - but she would love to have a N9. To many things don't work well on Android (Skype calls, multitasking, calls crashing/interrupting in a bad way running apps) and the system just doesn't work and look as neat as N9.

But N9 has its problems too, even with PR1.3 it's sometimes still a bit laggy + minimal support by Nokia. Furthermore before PR1.2 update i wouldn't have recommended the phone to a noob. And btw: I'm not using any tweaks on my regular N9.

So have a look again to your N9, there should be solutions to improve it (battery life etc). But ask: "Which phone is the better one", won't help you, since it needs to fit your needs.

Performance is one thing, that aside, it is a rather rare device, and i love that uniqueness, especially in countries where it was not launched. A unique device with a unique operating system

And I believe it is a rebel among phones... If you know the history behind it... The end and beginning of many things... I think theres many reasons behind me buying this phone and i am very proud of all it is.

yup, i have to agree with u on that part. iphone lacks a lots of thing without the jailbreaking tweaks. for the n9 part, i dont know what actually happen, but after i flash the phone, the phone seem to be a lot more responsive now. seems like my faster n9 tweak dissapeared after flashing. is it common? and when i installed back the faster n9 tweak, it lags like before. uninstall back and it working perfectly fine now. is there some bugs on the faster n9? seems like the flash firmware dont go along with faster n9. actually i dont even need the faster n9 now. the flash firmware seem to fix the original firmware problem that i encountered back then. :) battery life is super good and the phone is a lot more responsive now.

I doubt we'll see a 1.4 and beyond as Nokia let go of 10.000 employees wich includes most of the people relating to MeeGo.

If IP 5 gonna beat the N900 in useability they need to put in a fm transmitter, mass storage mode, IR transciever, bluetooth file transfer and stuff like that.

As it is a smart(play)phone it beats the N900 in that point, new games, better snap and edit pics apps(I'll leave out gimp on the N900 wich is better thsn everything else but not fast in access and performance), console like gaming with giro scope wich is pretty cool in some games, etc.

If I could merge my N9/00 with a 4S i would do it and the only things I would take from the 4S is the camera, giro scope and app store. The rest would still be from the N9/00.

I prolly switch to IP 5 when it comes out as I see myself being more and more a casual user of a smartphone.

I will atleast keep my N900 as I still use it alot and the functions I use it for I can't find in any other phone, not all if them in the same phone that is.

Yes flashing the device removes all installed 3rd party applications. I also don't use fasterN9. Under PR1.2 it made my phone sometimes unresponsive (especially when open apps). PR1.3 feels fast enough, so I haven't tried out fasterN9 anymore.

Great that your phone feels more responsive now :)
