Jolla Hardware wishlist vote for your must have option

Results Update:

Over 200 Community members have chosen their favorite options and it would appear the community wants:

An N900 sucessor with a keyboard, more than 1 GB of memory, with an OMAP 5 processor, capacitive touch, 720p screen, a 4" screen or lower (720p screen meant smaller screen-size read first post), an HDMI out port, an FM transmitter, and a removeable battery.

Those seem to be the major "wants", I was hoping for a stylus but oh well. I hope this info can get passed along to the "jolla people".

BTW keep voting it will be interesting to see if anything changes the more people vote.

END: Results Update:

I am so excited to hear Jolla will resume the development for what I believe is the best portable PC/ Internet device/ Smartphone (Note the Order). Whatever they do I am sure it will be fantastic and I can't wait to see what they come up with.

However (there is always a but), Please allow me as a "fan" to offer up my hardware suggestions and other fans may want to do so as well. Hopefully there will only be one Jolla hardware wish list thread..

I would like:

An N900 successor
strong Meego Core but open to community software
OMAP5 Processor
lmore memory than 1GB (will that make a diff?)
physical keyboard
stylus capable
high res screen (720p or greater depending on cost)

I would be willing to pay more for my "Dream Device" The suggested retail for the n900 when I bought it was $599, I would go $899 for the next N900.

BTW: I know this isn't hardware related and someone will correct me if I am wrong, but don't we want the software to be deb based instead of rm? Will there be a backward compatibity/port issue?

Update: For those who want to vote screen size I think of 720p as the smaller screen 3.5" etc., and 1080p as the larger 4+ inch screens. Hope this helps in picking big screen over smaller.

Update 2:
I'm not sure why all this "HATING" is going on. This thread was simply trying to see what Jolla's potential customers would like see in their new device, thats all. This is a stand alone thread and has nothing to do with the other Jolla talk. Can't the community express what it would like to see in a new device?

Re: Jolla Hardware wishlist vote for your must have option

Fm transmitter.
Bluetooth 4.
Wifi AC.
Two year warranty (or just reliable).
IR transmitter.

Basically a rebirth of what Nokia once stood for, Idon't think anyone could object to that.

Oh, and a non-pentile display.

This they must offer if they want to sell product in EU. Apple was sued for this reasons in Italia (he had to change to 2 year warranty)!

I second the long wire on the charger, even when you have a long one, you always want longer ;)

I think this will be release in the northern parts of Europe. Not worldwide. Maybe even finland only

Either way they had to give 2 year warranty and also if not sold in your country they must give somekind of warranty for all EU citizens

Re: Jolla Hardware wishlist vote for your must have option

Nokia N900 copy with slight upgrades
* 1-2GB memory and up to date processor.
* N8 like camera module / multimedia chip
* HDMI connector for external screen and I am done.
* Dual charging connector

NEW:
1st smartphone with quick user replacable screen to choose on the fly between good old resistive (stylus) and typical Amoled based displays based on user profile. (so that lovers of the N9 hardware can still show off the beauty of the pentile display)

Re: Jolla Hardware wishlist vote for your must have option

I would like this phone to be more like upgraded nokia n8. To have solid construction, good camera, good gpu and fm transmitter. However it should have n9 like ui, processor and memory wise greater than n9. This phone would be hit on the market if it could also offer dual sim compitability. Size wise it should not exceed n9/n8 dimensions. No physical keyboard for me as it would make the phone really bulky.

And those silly 5" microUSB cables too... Who ever though that was a practical design must not have to compensate for other areas in his life.

Re: Jolla Hardware wishlist vote for your must have option

couldnt give a **** as long as it allows the software to function properly, for example the N900's ram made it painfully obvious that it was bottlenecking the performance

doesn't anyone here think we are getting too excited???

Jolla have said an announcement is imminent in the next few weeks and a product before year-end...so doesn't that mean all this has already been locked in?

We shouldn't set ourselves up for disappointment...this is the 4th or 5th Jolla thread already...we are getting too far ahead of ourselves...take a breather people...

If their device is success their surely going to make more of them, and design can always be changed

Re: Jolla Hardware wishlist vote for your must have option

N9 Successor
4.1 in capacitive LED screen
Low-power standby screen
Pentaband HSPA+
Around/near 720p resolution
Thinner than N9
1gb or more ram
8 MP Camera w/better producing images than N9
Stronger Flash than N9
Front Camera that actually works ;)
Apt-x bluetooth 4.0
At least 16GB Storage Capacity
Hopefully ACL
HDMI out
Decent processor (we see N9 doesn't need much)
Dedicated Camera Button (works even when phone locked)
Lost/Stolen Phone recovery app
Swipe UX if possible (saves so much space as no buttons needed)
LED-lit edges (N9's swipe sensitives edges would be awesome if they had invisible led glow around them-glow for different alerts/reminders)
No need for flash
Dedicated Battery monitor like Android
Power-Save mode

Thanks!

Jolla have asked on Twitter what specs people would like from their coming devices, you can let them know using #jollaspec

Re: Jolla Hardware wishlist vote for your must have option

People should have a select what price range to.

Reason is people seems to be a bit naive if they think they can get all of that list.

You can expect latest and greatest HW from Jolla. Seriously pureview? WTF!? Its a new company NOT nokia.

Jolla is very small company this means the price for the HW will be ALOT higher for them and that also means price to consumer will be ALOT higher than if it was an Android device.

If you want all on the list you have to pay 2500EUR for the device.

What I hope:

* 4 hopefully but 5" screen
* hwkbd
* 5mpix camera (would be great if carl zeis but I dont expect)
* OMAP A9 and 1GbRAM
* NFC
* some kind of frontcamera if possible
* HDMI
* USB OTG
* 32Gb flashmem

Price upto 600EUR

Re: Jolla Hardware wishlist vote for your must have option

Well let me add this:
- a Good dual speaker
- 720p
- buttonless (just like the N900/N9)
- Bluetoothless FM Radio,
- FM transmitter
- hmmm what else...
- well all new screen have a very bright screen, so please add an option to reduce the brightness very very low.
- this one is for the engenier: if their is a place for microsim card, their must be a place for microSD card, monobloc or not ; and dont tell us history like "... for design reason".

@lorul2 add IR transmitter for the pole, using pierogi on N900 is a must.

Agree. Won't be highend. That is the tricky part. How do they communicate with the market. That is more important than specs.
How many willingly pay top dollar for that. I'm afraid to many have too high expectations.

The point of the list was to pick your most important features. That’s why some choices contradict each other; I was hoping Jolla would see the top five standouts and take it from there. Ultimately we will get what they can do; I wanted this thread to give them an idea of what the community would like to see.

Well, according to the poll results, many people will suffice a device with good design, 1GB+ Ram, keyboard and modern screen resolution, plus some additional stuff like hdmi and fm transmitter. As you can see people do not care much about things like 100500 core soc in the phone.

(however, it's just 66 votes at the moment)

Because every ****ing thread about competitor's devices / future / speculated Nokia devices always goes down a route like this?
