Re: Nokia N9 missing texts, contacts images

So you can restore only these files by deleting the other files except the one backup metadata (or sth like that) file from the Backup5 or Backup6?

Re: Nokia N9 missing texts, contacts images

Now here is something I just don't understand...
For example, in the backup I just now made, in the "messaging.zip" file of the backup, I just found out that it contains my MMS messages in the path "/Root/home/user/.mms/msg/"

All the messages are there.

And now as I check the actual folder in the device, "/home/user/.mms/msg/" I can see that all MMS messages are there.

Does same thing work also for my contacts and SMS messsages, are the actual data items still present somewhere on my device, just unable to be accessed because tracker databases are destroyed?

If that is so, is there any way of rebuilding the indexes?

Re: Nokia N9 missing texts, contacts images

That's strange...If all the SMS and contacts are still there why not copy them over, delete from location and copy them back to get tracker to re-index them?

tracker usually indexes everything on its own; I've no idea of what commands to use to get it to re-build indexes from a specific location...

Maybe you could attempt to edit the .db files of tracker to point them to these directories?

Re: Nokia N9 missing texts, contacts images

I will just tread lightly here until I am sure what's missing and what's just hidden.

What is the location for contacts database and SMS database?

I have to confess I have not paid much attention to tracker before. I still do not understand the real reason for it... so many application seem to depend on it.
I kind of get it's usefulness on indexing music/videos/pictures, but why on earth do things like contacts depend on it??

Re: Nokia N9 missing texts, contacts images

I'm not sure about the database locations but I think you should be able to find them in /home/user/.config/tracker/

tracker gets an index built for everything so that your contacts etc can be linked to your emails and smses...you can check using tracker-search the categories it indexes so that the system can use smartsearch (another inefficient "feature") to get you info that you may require...

Re: Nokia N9 missing texts, contacts images

I looked into /home/user/.config/tracker/tracker-miner-fs.cfg, and it contains these directories for indaxing;

IndexRecursiveDirectories=&DESKTOP;&DOCUMENTS;&DOW NLOAD;&MUSIC;&PICTURES;&VIDEOS;$HOME/MyDocs;$HOME/MyDocs/.sounds;$HOME/MyDocs/.documents;$HOME/MyDocs/.videos;$HOME/MyDocs/.images;$HOME/MyDocs/.camera;

There are references to "HOME/.config/user-dirs.default" and "/etc/xdg/user-dirs.defaults" in the tracker config. However there is no ".config/user-dirs.default" in my system, instead there is ".config/user-dirs.dirs" which does contain the following definitions:

XDG_DESKTOP_DIR="$HOME/MyDocs"
XDG_DOWNLOAD_DIR="$HOME/"
XDG_TEMPLATES_DIR="$HOME/MyDocs"
XDG_PUBLICSHARE_DIR="$HOME/MyDocs"
XDG_DOCUMENTS_DIR="$HOME/"
XDG_MUSIC_DIR="$HOME/"
XDG_PICTURES_DIR="$HOME/"
XDG_VIDEOS_DIR="$HOME/"

I think those are not correct, as every directory resolves just to HOME or MyDocs.

However, my "/etc/xdg/user-dirs.defaults" has the following definitions:

DESKTOP=MyDocs
DOWNLOAD=MyDocs/Downloads
TEMPLATES=MyDocs
PUBLICSHARE=MyDocs
DOCUMENTS=MyDocs/Documents
MUSIC=MyDocs/Music
PICTURES=MyDocs/Pictures
VIDEOS=MyDocs/Movies

Use nano etc to modify ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs to resemble the above...The above is the reason why your files won't appear in Gallery, Music etc...This bug has appeared with pr1.3 and happens for no apparent reason...

Re: Nokia N9 missing texts, contacts images

I managed to stitch up a viable backup and restore that to the device. Turns out I only miss 35 days worth of messages. Not too bad considering I could have lost it all :o
I think I have not added any new contacts last month, so those should be correct entirely.

Teaches me a lesson. this.

Re: Nokia N9 missing texts, contacts images

Yes, I am saved, literally :D

Turns out I had more recent backups after all.
See, last week when I first tried encrypting my whole /home/ partition, I of course made a backup of the data which I then run through encfs to create the encrypted directory. When that didn't work out correctly, I restored the partition and promptly forgot that I actually had not deleted the backups. HURRAH!
When I came to work this morning I immediately ran MALF_Remove boot on the device and copied the old partitions back.

So I got my device back together, missing only 4 days of data, just a few messages :)

The lesson here folks: MAKE THE BACKUPS, seriously, if you are doing any hacking!

Hi Guys, I have the same issue. I turned my phone on and my contacts and SMS have disappeared. Wazapp does not initiate either. Can I get the contacts back?? I really need them (don't we all?)

I do not understand a word about the commands to type-in, I opened the terminal and tried to type the LS command, and it tells me I have permission denied. HELP PLEASE!
