US Cellular + RAZR + Internet access
I searched and found no posts of anyone using US Cellular for Internet connectivity on their n800.
Before I go adding the $XX / month to my plan, does anyone know if this will work, and what the settings in the n800 would be? |

Re: US Cellular + RAZR + Internet access
I'm using the $20 Cingular unlimited data plan, with a Razr V3xx (this is the 3G version of the Razr). Unlike Cingular promised, I am not getting 3G speeds (which came to my town on 7/1/2007).
On the phone, I get about 400-700K at speedTest.net (it varies a lot). Though it doesn't "feel" like 700k. It seems slower. However, when I pair over Bluetooth the N800 only gets about 80-150k. Bluetooth should not be that slow, So I'm not sure why this is. Under the $20 plan, you have to change your settings from isp.cingular.com to wap.cingular.com The reason I got the V3xx over the old razr, was so that I could get 3G speeds, but it not happening. 100-120K is painfully slow. I hate Cingular - they have locked the phone so that Java apps don't work, only ones that Cingular has signed with their certificate. I havn't found a way around this yet. I hope google wins that 700Mhz from the FCC, and all cell phone carriers die a slow painful death... My web browsing is painful... so I think it's fair. They charge too much anyway. |

Case in point - the other reply already in this thread  Searching for "uscellular" returned nothing. For those who don't know, "US Cellular" is a provider, like Cingular or AT&T, but they are a different company. That's not a generic term for any US cellular provider :) |

Re: US Cellular + RAZR + Internet access
AT&T jacks phones and speeds. Though this might actually be a bluetooth issue. I'm not sure of the flavor of bluetooth on RAZR's or the ITT's, but bluetooth can be rather slow sometimes. My last phone, a Sony, would max out transfering to my laptop at about 150kbs. Yes, this is a lot faster than the 150kBIT you are getting, but listen to this. I use a Samsung Blackjack now, and just last weekend I was up in orlando, and a friend who lives up there came by my hotel room with his new macbook which was rocking a bluetooth connection. He wanted to test the audio playing on his brand new machine, so I offered to send him one of the songs I had on my Blackjack over bluetooth. The transfer topped out at 28kbs, and neither of us had any clue why. My phone is an AT&T phone even though it was not purchased through them, and I have a nasty feeling they might have crippled bluetooth data transfers to prevent people from tethering the device in a shady manner (To use the blackjack as a modem the 'legit' way you have to install included samsung software on your laptop) Though I have not tried to use the bluetooth transfer to my laptop yet, since I charge with usb and just do data transfers that way, so I can't say for sure it was a phone or at&t issue and not a macbook issue, but you never know.

http://www.uscellular.com/ They primarily sell services in the midwest US and Virginia areas I believe. I think I'll go talk to my salesperson and see what she says. |
Re: US Cellular + RAZR + Internet access
For anyone who happens to find this post by search later - I learned that you CAN tether with US Cellular - for about 2 days. Then they cancel your account for misuse. Thankfully I didn't learn this by personal experience. Apparently they are hostile to tethering and claim it "crashes their servers" because "being a regional provider our hardware isn't the latest."

Re: US Cellular + RAZR + Internet access
I have had US Cellular service for years. They have great national cellular phone service at the absolute lowest prices. Their entire attempt at internet connection called 'Easy Edge', absolutely sucks. I never thought for a asecond, it would work with the N800. Guess I was right.
